Can’t enjoy the game with crossplay

  • @mc-leggers

And yet it's been brought up as evidence of SoT imminent demise sense like a month after launch.

I mean, I don't want to be dismissive about someone's concern over the game's status, but when it just keeps going and going for almost a year, you really have to work at not rolling your eyes.

Besides, maybe it's selfish, but I'd almost prefer SoT be a moderate yet steady success rather than a mega-blockbuster. Seems to preserve the developer's idea and keeps it out of the gluttonous view of the large corporations.

  • @bloodybil how do you know they were on PC ?

  • @yellowsub999 said in Can’t enjoy the game with crossplay:

@bloodybil how do you know they were on PC ?

I think you replied to the wrong person, but the usual answer to that question is that people frantically stalk their xbox app to check who plays on what. People probably say it regardless if they checked or not anyways.

  • @bloodybil I didn’t know it said they were on PC or Xbox thanks

  • @dirty-tuna-lips no ship ever comes out of nowhere...better check your surroundings and they will have no chance to get you...
Especially when you are on a brig against a sloop they should have no chance at all to get you...I play on XBox and I don't care if there are PC players trying to get me...I say trying because that's the only thing they can do...they don't get me...

Also you were 3 people...two of you should have stayed at the ladders with the blunderbuss, that was one of your mistakes to let them board you

I'm not basing anything off what happened then, cause it had as terrible launch, the entire world knows that. 5 months ago there was alot more going on. Now there is way more content an way less going on. I can log on right now, get a reaper chest take it to a outpost without worrying about anyone even coming for it. All these new Accoms, I did them without being bothered once. Arena take so long to get going it is crazy. I believe the euro servers are doing good with people, because most of the time that's what server I get on an get action. Never american.

I think it's more a change in player attitudes to some degree.

People are more engaged with the content because the game has it now in adventure.

A lot of hardcore PvP players will most likely be on arena now.

Also I would like to point out the amount of threads that pop up here asking for a PvE mode, I think that indicates some peoples playing habits as quite a lot of them tend to go by the philosophy of either just letting you sink them passively or making you chase them for hours without firing a single shot at you.

To me it sounds like the players are most certainly there, but instead you are just not having the interactions you wish to have in adventure.

Who knows maybe a server browser would be a good call at this point if region is your perceived issue.

  • @mc-leggers

So many say. Personally, I haven't noticed much of a difference. Of course, my personal observations are basically useless as actual proof, but everyone else seems to be using them, so I guess it's fair game.

The Arena I can't speak to, as I don't play Arena.

  • Whoever is defending that PC-Xbox forced cross play is fair, is a PC player. It is undebatable that PC players have advantage mainly due to huge and ridiculous respawn times on Xbox. I have an OG Xbox One and sometimes it takes MORE than 20 SECONDS to respawn in the black screen alone while PC players are back up and running within seconds. Of course I am going to sink. And don't even mention the huge FPS differences sometimes. Of course I am avoiding ships, of course I have beaten PC players many times but there is 1 fact. An Xbox player with the same skill in the game as a PC player WILL get beaten in a fight due to games' mechanics. And don't say "go buy an X" and stuff like that because they sell the game for Xbox, not for the X alone.

  • @snikefriend
The loading times are random and can be improved with an ssd. Fps only makes a minor difference if you're both at playable levels(30 is one for xbox by the way). I'm not telling you to buy anything, as I don't have an ssd, but I'm just telling you it's not because of pc. Xbox player here.

  • @blazedrake100 You just said that they can be improved with an SSD so they are not random. I've seen many Rare streams and many PC Sea of Thieves streams and rarely do I have come accross huge loading times on PC.

  • @snikefriend
It's a mixture of both. People with ssds have said they got blaclscreened, but it still seems like it makes it less likely.

  • @blazedrake100 I have a SSD, and the loading is faster, also the black screen is very very short, depends on what's going on around your ship, if it's a skellie ship then maybe 2-3 seconds more...
The loading into the game for example XBox One S with SSD vs regular XBox One: both start the game at the same time, with SSD I'm in the game while without it you are in the crew-menu

    ^This

I have a m.2 nvme SSD and in all honesty the only noticeable difference is initially loading In to a session is faster.

The rest of the time it's really unpredictable, I've had black screens for nearly 30 seconds a lot.

  • @troubled-cells Okay then I take back my claim as I don't have personal experience on PC.

Weird because many Xbox users here have declared using a SSD doesn't really improve things.

Not saying you are wrong , just taking in to account other comments.

The USB connection is a bottleneck, no point having a faster drive if the bus you are connecting it to is slower IMO.

For my Xbox, the SSD has made a huge and consistent improvement. Without it my load times are usually 30 seconds or more. With the SSD the load time is 6 seconds or less. I am wondering if some of the people with SSD know that they have to tell their Xbox to move the game to the SSD before they see a difference.

Quite possibly, such a basic oversight could have occurred, is your SSD internal or external?

  • @troubled-cells External SSD on an Xbox original.

@troubled-cells External SSD on an Xbox original.

That's great to know thanks for the insight.

It's weird though how on a OG Xbox with a USB SSD you are getting more consistency than a PC user with "Unlimited Powah" according to many people's view.

I think the release of Scarlett is going to make a difference In this game as well with PC being completely out of the equation in the debate, when that happens are people going to demand a opt out for that as well?

I am on xbox one x with an external SSD and let me tell you it makes a HUGE difference in load times. Loading in game went from 3-4 minutes to 45 seconds. Mermaid journeys from 35-45 seconds to 4 seconds. The only time there is a lingering black screen is when I spawn from the ferry and my boat has sank past the point of no return.

Sounds like you are getting better loading than myself, a PC user then.

To me, this and a 60fps performance mode for console will make everything fine.

Admittedly there is a cost to the SSD, but it applies to both sides pretty much.

But the 60 fps tweak, rare can do that for free.

Nice Shazam Avatar I'm actually going to get off here man actually get into the game with all the full servers but to all a good day may I see you on the seas 😁

I've played the game since day 1, my level in the game is irrelevant to the discussion of FACTS at hand. Nice fail on trying to discredit me. FYI I play the game over 95% of the time solo which is one reason why I haven't made Pirate Legend yet, but should do so easily before the end of the current event ends...not that it makes any difference to the discussion at hand which you continually put your head in the sand instead of debating and researching like a reasonable, intelligent adult would.

Again, your anecdotal observations (not facts as you continually claim) are essentially irrelevant - I could add my own experiences or many others on this very forum that counter your claim, but that is no better than what you are doing. I won't stoop to the "he said, she said" level, that is childish. I'll take statistics garnered from 100s of thousand gamers in a random pool (you know, like REAL statisticians do) gathered by a reputable site with experience in handling of data and statistics over the OPINION of ONE person, but I guess that is just the scientific, statistical and mathematics I was trained in while in college and graduate school....not to mention everyday common sense. Which do you think is more representative of the actual state of the game? Oh wait, you won't entertain data that counters your own narrow view. Your failure to acknowledge them (or even try to do some research to see if you had any way to discredit them) is what is laughable and disturbing.

Maybe you aren't seeing them because they are better at evading you, as is my strategy in game. I could say I saw the Shrouded Ghost, doesn't mean it happened without something to back it up. Same goes for your claims.

I made pirate legend solo...He was very reasonable, you are insulting him, he isn't insulting you, how does that work?
Why are you so bitter? You are putting caps on words for no reason.
What facts are you even trying to get across at the moment?
Pc gamers don't have the majority in this game, debate that. Maybe people are just that bad, I bet there are good xbox players that could care less.

I am not bitter (not even sure how you could come to such an absurd conclusion), but do get annoyed when someone is so stubborn that they will not entertain facts/statistics presented to them by burying their head in the sand instead of properly debating or even researching them. The caps were for emphasis, not for no reason. And how exactly did I insult him? By calling him out for ignoring statistics that countered his view? I was critical of his "logic", assumptions and conclusions, never personally attacked him. If that was insulting maybe he should present a better case for his point instead of sticking his fingers in his ears when data counters his own narrow view or thinking that only what he "sees" in the game matters. Condescending, perhaps. Annoyed, definitely but not insulting. If it did come across that way I apologize as that was not my intent, which was only to debate the "logic" and personal observations presented with actual data and statistical trends that countered those assumptions.

And since you jumped in the middle of the conversation, the point was that I was disproving his claim that the game was "dying" by providing actual, reliable gameplay statistics that countered that supposition. What the heck does the population/percentage of PC gamers have to do with what we were discussing? That was never part of the conversation, nor am I a PC gamer either (also do not care one way or the other about the opt-out, wouldn't use it myself unless the people I play with occasionally decided to do so).

Anyway this is starting to get off-topic so I'll leave it here. I've said my piece, presented and defended the statistics that counter his and others claims that the game is "dying" and them using that false claim as some sort of justification for Opt-out, PVE servers, Battle Royale/"pure" PVP arena mode, or whatever personal agenda they are presenting. No desire to see the thread closed for perceived personal arguing or straying too far off topic, only wanted to set the record straight on that one thing with actual data (that he chooses to ignore).

The game is dying. It's an open thread, no one jumps into anyones conversation. There is no statistical data that is even truthful to represent any part of this game. However when Arena takes 45 minutes to get in, and you see maybe 2 ships on a server on prime time, there is a problem. Doesn't require absolute science to see it. You seem like maybe you are too involved and have an emotional interest here. Step back from the game a while or something. There is no need to all worked up. What statistics did he ignore? Everything that has came out of this game number wise has been a lie, look at the achievement system for starters.

jeez, your as bad as him, ignoring any EVIDENCE that counters your own closed world view.

  • @troubled-cells do they use a 3.0 USB cable?

  • @schwammlgott got mine on a hamster wheel.

  • In early years, my daughter had a teacher I liked a lot. Every time she used to complain about something not being fair she used to say: well, yes dear... life's not fair. 😉

I think we are complaining on a very high level here and realistically this won't ever be completely fair for everyone. Even on console you got those playing with mouse and keyboard, playing with extra long sticks, elite controllers, on huge TVs and on potato TVs on regular Xbox VS One X... can't control all that. And if PC is so unfair, there's no way you can argue this to be different when playing against some kid on his One S with some 20 year old TV leftover from his parents bedroom. And let's not forget that there are different PCs out there as well and the majority doesn't handle 240 Hz and whatnot.

Ive seen console players running circles around me, stomping me into the ground just as well as really good PC players.

If this is about mouse and keyboard, go ahead and allow it on Xbox as well. Give them a 60 FPS mode on top of that and remove cross play opt out altogether to be done with this topic.

Personally I think that the crossplay functionality of some Microsoft titles is absolutely fantastic.

  • @neptuncynic You sir get it. ^ This a thousand times this ^

Arena take forever to get into, and I'm level 48 saying that. It's not doing that well either.

@blazedrake100 I have a SSD, and the loading is faster, also the black screen is very very short, depends on what's going on around your ship, if it's a skellie ship then maybe 2-3 seconds more...
The loading into the game for example XBox One S with SSD vs regular XBox One: both start the game at the same time, with SSD I'm in the game while without it you are in the crew-menu

Either or wouldn't matter as a data transfer is an allowance between the ssd, mainboard and the speed of the cable attached to it. You can bottleneck your own ssd if it isn't correctly put in, or is on a board that doesn't support the same transfer rates.

  • oh how I hate when people stir up these harassment posts and then use "xbox players" as a collective statement when really (most times) it's the individuals problem and lack of the "get gud" ability.... I am an xbox player, watch your back and learn how to sail. We wreck mostly everyone on the seas.

@dlchief58 bro I am the statistics compared to you just hours logged in this game I am seriously laughing seriously laughing I hit pirate legend of 5-4-18 you still haven't done it I have loged so many hours on this game it's unbelievable I'm telling you what I see if you don't like it don't listen to it you can put a chart up all you want I'm telling you what I see
Sea of thieves is like my second wife I live on this game so I know what it was and what it is I started with closed betas then open bata then release of game I've been here ever since do what you will my friend .
I said this before and again all the Xbox community is doing now is blocking the PC players they go to recent player list to see PC it gets blocked this is not a fix.
Try the option if it works great if it doesn't scrap it I have no agenda bro I'm leaving September 5th for gears then I'm leaving for modern warfare on the 25th of October and then Doom comes out in November so it doesn't really matter I have no agenda I just hate to see this game fail

Show me what I ignored. That's the biggest problem, you haven't shown ANYTHING, since we like capitol letters lol. Show me something. Show me what I'm ignoring. You keep talking an talking, but I don't see anything, and stop being so bitter. Learn how to debate without emotions.

I haven't used any emotions, I fail to see how you come to such absurd conclusions. And since you do not seem to want to follow the thread, I'll once again repeat and repost the information that handily disprove yours and others false claims that the game is "dying".

This is presented by a third party site with no official affiliation to Microsoft, so can the "fake news" narrative you've been so reliant on. There is no reason for them to "lie" about such statistics as they have nothing to gain by doing so, all the trends on ranking can be correlated to real live instances (such as a new release, game dropping into game pass, a new update, GwG, etc). The web site is reputable (with their achievement statistics used as a basis for the Von Coin auction site as well) and much experience in collecting data as well as being able to present it using proper statistical methods of analysis with a sample pool of 100s of thousands Xbox users. Just by comparing the games ranked above and below it gives you a pretty good idea as to how well the game is performing each week on gameplay, and has been consistent for a very long time - usually ranking in the range of 20th to 25th most played game in any given week and peaking at #11 right after the Anniversary update.
