"Video driver crashed and was reset"

  • Hi,

I'm having serious issues getting Sea of Thieves to start. It loads up until the Rare logo appears, then it exits with the error message "video driver crashed and was reset. please update your drivers".

I have just done that with the latest version of nvidia drivers, also updated Windows 10 and whatever. Still the same issue. Sometimes the mouse cursor blinks a few times now before the crash happens again at or shortly after the Rare logo is shown.

I can't find any help here in the forums, all threads are months old and the links that have been posted in those threads are all dead.

Specs are i7-6700K, 32 GB RAM & GTX 1080. Everything else is working fine.

I've spent an additional 49 EUR for this game since I have the hard copy for XBox which is not eligable for play anywhere (thanks for that!).
    Now it's not working.

What is the fix for that issue?

  • @terp1985 Raise a ticket with support and they should be able to help you.

  • @terp1985 Have you checked to see if something reset the game to use the Intel integrated GPU?

  • There was some instability introduced in one of the previous post 2.x patches as I've had the video driver crash message appear a few times since the Anniversary update. The most recent update (2.0.2) hasn't given me this message yet, but the game will occasionally crash between Arena rounds if the main window loses focus (alt-tabbing or switching focus to my second monitor).

Whenever this happens, create a support ticket with as many details as possible - there may also be entries in the Windows Event Viewer that might help.
