@bran-the-ent said in Pirate is reeling in backwards:
@uberkull All I know is that the line goes into the top of the reel and it looks to be a single action - as you say - fly type reel that is set on the bottom of the rod. Made up or not - matching the way fishing works today or not, the reeling direction makes sense with how they have set it visually.
Haha...wasn’t meaning to argue it. 😃
The point of fishing reels is they were geared to give you power. By applying a forward and down power, the gear wound the line back and around. Multiple gears to give you geared power from the turn. Also, a ratio exists, one turn of the handle equals 5-8 turns of the spool.
Regardless of the ‘art’, the feel is just off. Leaving the spool and line alone, they could fix the reeling animation to be correct, forward and down, and the line would still come onto the reel at the top of the spool. And people would ‘get it’.
Have you ever done the fishing pool dance at some wedding? Ya know the goofy dance where you cast out a line on your imaginary pole? How do you naturally reel in your imaginary fish? Try it now...see?
