New Move: PARRY

  • With all the talk about the combat and the recent changes made to it I thought it's the right time to discuss some suggestions about its mechanics and how to improve and add on them.
    So far what we've got is a light attack, a charge attack, a dodge and a block. Without having to complicate the controls by adding more keys/buttons, I thought about a parry feature. When you want to block you just hold the right mouse button (on PC) and that's it, but if you time it right and guard just when the sword is about to hit you, you get a parry. That means that the attacker's sword will bounce back and stun them, making them defenseless for a few seconds.
    To counter that you just do whatever you do when someone is blocking, either do a sword lunge or shoot them, I was thinking about making also the lunge parryable but I'm still not sure. Thoughts?

  • With the issues regarding hit detection, a parry will be all but impossible. That said, there WAS a lot more to sword combat prior to the recent combat changes then you seem to know, because there actually WAS a counter-attack, along with numerous other options (see my Combat Guide for details), with the emphasis on WAS. Rare broke it while trying to fix the DGE...
