Skeleton ships diving mid fight

  • Ok this has happened twice now.
We see a skeleton ship up and sail to it, when we think we're close to sinking it, it just dives in the water. Is it meant to have the ability to run away? Both times it was in an open sea, there wasn't any rocks for it to crash in, just dives mid fight.

  • i think , but i'm not sure , that they have a "region" in wich they sail in...i mean ,once they cross their "set" barrier they just dive down and maybe respawn on the point where you met them first....Were you sailing while fighting , maybe at full speed for a long time, Sir?

  • I've had both several megs and several skeleton ships just spontaneously disappear on me. It seems that once you move a certain distance away from where they spawn, they will despawn instead of chasing you. In my opinion, this makes for extremely boring fights, since one has to literally sit still and rotate if you don't want the meg/ship to end up running away on you

  • We fought a skelly ship, exchanged canon shots and hits, placed a chest of sorrow on their deck, and it just dived away a second later ...

I would think that too but when I engage I often lift sails and tilt the ship in cannon range as it sails in circle around us. I hardly ever go on a chase.

I can somewhat understand that if you're trying to cheese the fight, though I think sinking it with a chest of sorrows would be a fun tactic. In my case both times we just fired cannons, I am sure one of us boarded them to kill the repair crew or even snuck on a keg but it's tactics I use on every other skeleton ship fight and they just don't disappear.

  • Yea, this issue is getting real old, real fast. Nearly every single ship I have tried to fight has despawned nearly immediately after engaging. Even while stationary.

  • I noticed once that a skeleton ship I was going to attack dived at the same time as a skull cloud dissipated. It could be connected to the presence of the ship/skull clouds (or lack thereof).

  • bumping because this has happened 3 times to me in the past day. please stop with this it's actually so FRUSTRATING. my friend just got the game on steam and it happened to her too while solo slooping, she was able to get a skelly gally low in the water, was so proud and then BLOP gone. please make this stop they've all been aggressive ships that spawn ON us. if skelly ship shows up it can't just duck back down when it feels like it might LOSE, WHAT A LOAD OF BARNACLES.

Its against the forum rules, you have no excuse to break the rules.

  • Also happened a lot for me lately while being alone on a sloop.

When I finally say, ok, I'll fight and almost beat him, he just disappears. But when I don't want to fight it's following me over the complete map, it's really frustrating.

  • I've had this happen before, I generally just treat it the same as a player managing to escape me - that is I just move on.

Granted, if it is absolutely unintended it should be looked in to, but I try not to get too frustrated by it.
