Honestly, since cursed sails has come out the captain wave has despawned on me 3 times!! What a c**p glitch!
Seriously wasted hours of time fighting wave after wave to finally reach the captain and have it despawn right in front of our eyes as we were about to put the last cannon balls into it.
I love sea of thieves but honestly tonight I wasted 5 hrs of my life that i’ll never get back

Sounds like you left its zone, not quite a glitch. I do understand its frustrating, but maybe keep a better eye on the map. I also need to better follow this advice.

It can also time out if the next battle's day is reached.

I don't mind the timeframe, just offset server times. Therefore, I could at least dodge to another one if I run out of time. I think they did it as an effort to keep players focused on one Ship captain at the time. Better chance to get alliances.
You're lucky, ive wasted A LOT more than 5 hours on SoT.
The amount of time actually played vs. the amount of time waiting for the game to actually load, time spent gathering supplies to do the actual quests and events, time spent looking aimlessly for other ships to form alliances or get help completing tasks that require multiple crews, and simply standing on a deck with nothing to do.....is literally 10% to 90%
9/10ths of the game is either doing something tedious or doing something frustrating.
its a real shame because the CORE is great, the mechanics are great..
Brother and I copped worse tonight, sunk captains ship of the Crew of the Cursed Helm only we ran out of wood so our ship sunk a minute after it did only to have it not count for as it sank the date ticked over to the 11th yup real great mechanics am glad in a sense i refuse to play this as frequently as others seem to for that reason it still looks and feels very early access.
@nabberwar yeah we left the zone but honestly maybe by a whisker... we shot the captain ship which was directly next to us as it despawned. Unbelievable. And the wave also despawned when we were sunk and returned to finish it.
If a skeleton fort doesn’t reset, why should skeleton ships reset? Just seems like a mistake by them.
@skullmanbeard it’s not about that though man, as admirable as your statement is. We did nothing wrong and put a large amount of time into the game only for no progression due to a mistake in the game. It should not restart to the beginning for leaving the area... period. Doesn’t happen in a skull fort.. didn’t happen with the meg.. shouldn’t happen with the skelly ships..
Was Doing ancient isles in a sloop after a 2 hour fight and (1.30 getting resources prior) got to the last wave and went down with one ship skelly ship near to sinking.
Repawned at shark bait and went over straight away... both ships then Despawned!! Couldn’t get them to come back up in the area where they should ... some minutes later, in that same area, oh it reset!!! - thanks Rare!, time restrictive commendations and bugs make for a wonderful gaming experience!.
I don’t like writing this and I’ve been very protective of Rare and SoT in the past but enough is getting enough - I agree with above poster, why they need to dive and Despawn at all?! Keep them afloat in the specific regions time frame.
