@nefrit-od its a bad design for a ship battle... tell me how its like a real pirate ship battle.

I have allready read all others posts in this topic where people give you advice, put more Int. stat in a fight instead of Str. stat :)

  • @nefrit-od then your just like the people who didn't read the whole post. Its like you read a page of a book and then botch it. There are plenty of people who agreed with my post. They read it and understood it just fine. Maybe they have a higher education level than the other people... I'm not sure. It's mundane and ridiculous at this point.

  • @artanissss 8 likes not "plenty"
You sad this is serious Feedback and then you just showing us situation where Alpha+PL+Athena 10 player don't know how to play in game :)
So yeah i saved my time a didn't read your post but i read all others that was answering you and they have "plenty" amount of like from other people who agreed with them

  • @artanissss Ignore the haters mate, they are probably just kissing Rares a*s so they can get a new badge.

I personally think you made some valid points and found myself agreeing. I just lost the will to actively debate this forum lol. Its not worth the energy.

In my honest opinion this game is basically a No Mans Sky, and by that i mean on pen and paper its a great concept. You can do anything with it, but in reality they just screwed it and its going to take a good couple of years for them to be able to make it a truly great title.

Microsoft forced Rare to release this game too early and they have been running around like headless chickens ever since trying to play catch up.

Rushed work is messy work. And SoT is a rushed work in progress where we the players are the lab rats.

I try to remind myself of this as well. People should always keep this in mind. While not a 100% valid excuse, it does put these things into more context.

  • @knifelife I agree with you.

I just hope in those couple of years they get someone else in Rare with Great Ideas.

  • I love it when the Founders get together. You can tell they really care about this game.
I love it even more when I see another ship with Founders sails flyin. Its like we have this unsaid alliance. Whenever I see another ship with Founders sails I never bother them and always offer help... and they have always done the same back to me.

  • @artanissss so I read your post again and I just think maybe others had different exciting experiences with cursed sails and some had similar ones to you. Which is what I like about it. Never the same experience. I like the cursed cannonballs, running out of supplies element, etc... the PL ship changes seem like solid ideas or at least having a ship like you suggest and keep the one that is there as some players like it. I will say achieving all dabloons will take more time than I got but earning the new sails and such is workable with the time I have. As far as the skeleton ships, they are like the AI in this game. It does remind me of the 80s and 90s but honestly I appreciate the awkward movements and simplistic ai difficulty increases like respawning. The bugs in the game are endearing to me. As far as your crew that uninstalled, sorry. Maybe they just put in too many hours already and kind of expended the game for them. Thats just speculation and I'm usually wrong when I do that btw. I just play here and there and it remains fun for me. I'll be playing a lil tomorrow and maybe tonight... if there's an open spot, your welcome to send an xbox message if u want to play. Just know, you are probably 100 times better than me.

  • Hi @barnacle-blake, this is a Known Issue that we called out in our Release Notes and on the Status Page!
We're aware of this bug and are working to resolve it.

  • This guy is getting a lot of flak from people too impatient to actually read the post before commenting. This isn’t about difficulty it’s about a dying game that’s confirming what we all feared. This is the first update I can get behind, it’s actually half decent. Even so there’s plenty of stale gameplay to be had(Dancing Demons) and plenty of additions that should’ve never been considered(alliances and sniper skeletons). I’d give this update a 8/10 for content and a 5/10 for execution(Loved the server maintainence delay on the update day and the fact that they had to push the release til the last day of the month. Did they really have to remove forts for the event to function?... yikes). Read the post before exposing yourself as a dimwit.

  • @ArtanisSsS
The update isn’t perfect...but is darn good and darn fun.

I’ve been in 5 battles so far and come out victorious in 4. The 5th one, the week ran out. It’s a battle of attrition for sure, you have to take high percentage shots leverage the barrels when you can, and above all else keep cool when something goes wrong, because it will at some point.

Also the Galleon is the best ship to use, save your time on the Brigantine for running Athena’s it’s quick and agile.

As far as the rest of your opinions, they are just that, opinions. Sounds like you’re looking for a game more like (presumably since I’ve not played it) Skull & Bones, not sure if they have ghosts over there but judging from the more realistic choice in art, it probably won’t. I happen to like this game and the direction it’s heading.

Final point, I agree the servers have been a bit empty, although I don’t think it has anything to do with the popularity of the game. Sea of Thieves has an active server merging system that happens behind the scenes and without you as a player noticing. If you’re in a server by yourself it should merge servers, I have a feeling that this feature might not be working as it should right now.

EDIT: Glowing Ship, I like the new Legend stuff, but I asked the same question to myself as you did and then I came up with an answer, I guess the solution would be an on/off switch but if your hull or sails were glowing, yet it looks cool but you’d easily be spotted at night, perhaps that’s the reason? I dunno but the cosmetics don’t make or break the game for me, don’t like...don’t buy it is my mantra. Lol

  • @artanissss

I'm lucky enough to have taken part in a good many battles over the last few days, as I'm on summer break at the moment and I wanted to jump in and reply to your concerns.

Leaving aside your comments around the mechanics for a moment, the battles as a whole did get a lot easier as we gained experience - using kegs for instance, even one crew using a chest of sorrows on the skellie ships - I think pirates are beginning to try a variety of approaches and finding what works and actually having a bit of fun experimenting with it. I have to say I have very much enjoyed every single battle, including the betrayals and attacks from other pirates at the end when they've occurred.

There's definitely a difference between the cursed fleets, with the grog cannon balls feeling the most difficult/frustrating which seems to be offset by them only shooting into the upper deck of the galleon most times. It's been mentioned elsewhere that the stacking feels slightly op at the moment, but again, I think as time goes on and we adapt to different strategies we can compensate for this.

As to the magic element, I wonder if you've read the lore book or seen the recent 'extra' page for the lore book which outlines curses and can be found here -
    https://www.seaofthieves.com/news/tales-from-so-t-cursed-sails

Mermaids, skeletons, cursed chests, the Devil's Shroud and the supernatural in the form of the Ferry of the Damned are all part and parcel of the world of Sea of Thieves already, so cursed cannonballs fit right in, in my opinion. Sea of Thieves has never intended to be a realistic pirate game, it's set in it's own fantastical world in parallel with the historical period of the early Golden Age which is how 'we' found ourselves there as pirates.

I think this also gives some leeway when we're talking about the unnatural movement of the skellie ships, in that they need not be governed by the natural laws of the world - if you're sporting cursed sails on your ship then it's not too far a jump to assume they're filled with a cursed wind as well.

We don't yet know what these cursed ships are going to look like after the event, and like yourself, I would want cursed cannonballs to be rare and very difficult to come by in game afterwards - a special encounter, if you will.

I'm sorry you're disappointed by the update or feel there are things lacking, but thanks for posting your thoughts around this.

This guy right here gets it. I appreciate your opinion.

  • @katttruewalker I took a week break from Sea of thieves and was excited to play this expansion. What I experienced was a lot of people complaining about it. I even played with multiple people from Looking for group. They all complained. One time my whole group left the game and just left me on the boat. I spent 1.5 million gold on the new athena boat skins to hear people tell me it wasn't worth it..except for the skeleton on the front. I personally like the sails because you can see through the rips and see in front of you and that puts you at an advantage ( its kind of an upgradable item which the game is not suppose to have). I read your comment and I see that you "think" alot of things about whats happening and the future. I know what happened by my experience. The grog cannons shot the lower deck more times than the upper and we sank. I have been playing pirate games ever since I was little and I am now 37 years old. The magic of a complete lockdown of CC which stops the crew from being able to do crew things... not fun. I am looking to play a pirate game and if sea of thieves is not going to put in some pirate things then they might lose me as a fan. Maybe they just can't figure out how to put pirate stuff in the game.. maybe they already have everything lined up and its going to make it less pirate as it goes on. I don't know. When your in the game though and you look at the lamps on the boat you ask yourself why can't you break them and start a fire? Why can't you target the mast or sails? why can't you anchor the ghost ship? why can't you throw your lamp and start a fire? Why can't you see the anchor uner the water and target it with your sword? why are they not expanding on the things we already have?

What upsets me now more than anything is how the Moderator just ignores me for over 5 hours now. I am guessing because I am not saying the update is great. I am punished for being different or having an opinion.

  • @bo05ter I respect your ideas and Im glad your enjoying the update. Regarding the glowing ship would cause you to be noticed at night. I can see every ship at night no matter if they have their lights on or off so I don't think that matters. Id rather have the ship glow because its cool. Plus I can switch skins if I want to be sneaky but as I said before in this game I see every ship no matter what so imo there is no sneaky. I have no idea about Skull & Bones but Ill go check it out. Thnx man

  • The fleet system is terribly flawed, for this update to be really good you should be able to get a fleet going before loading into a game and finding out your server is empty. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO MAKE A FLEET BEFORE LOADING INTO A SERVER. Give PC players a server browser too, like every other modern pc game.

  • @arisechicken666 Those are some really really good points. So many times we get into a server and there is nobody to ally with. Spending two hours looking for a boat to ally with while you load your ship with supplies only to find nobody and then solo the event and then get insta CCed with a dance lock down of the whole boat and lose it all.
    lol that actually happened.

  • @katttruewalker Its magic i aint gotta splain [Mod edited] is a bad way to justify this

  • I hear skellies cackling with delight as they sail on a sea of salty tears.
