    Verity of Cross Gaurds!
    alt text
    alt text

    They don't have to be long! ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
    alt text

    AND THEY'RE SEXY!!!!!

    P.S.
Longswords (while not the optimum design for combat on a rocking ship...) were still in use during the Golden Age of Piracy (roughly 1690-1730), being used between 13th and 17th centuries. Yeah I know it's cutting it close but it's an old, elegant design and it's SO GOOD LOOKING!

Any Pirate rocking a Longsword would be like a Hipster of the High Seas, using a sword design that was (at the time) only a few Decades out of fashion!

Different Longswords for all the different styles!

    • Admiral: Silver Blade with Gold Crossguard and Pommel, all fancy and embroidered
    • Bilge Rat: Chipped wide blade, oblong piece of metal for a crossguard, and a wine-cork for a pommel
    • Sea Dog: Ruggid, strong, and kill you dead!
    • Sovereign: Tapering blade, elegant cross guard. Simple, Refined, Utilitarian

Let me know y'all! Would you like the chance to rock it OLD SCHOOL on the High Seas?

  • @yadroak So much YES!!! I just love longswords!

  • @katttruewalker
I know right! Spread the word and get this thread infront of the Dev's Eyeballs!

  • I would ultimately like to see more melee weapons with different stats that you can choose from. Cutlass for speedy 3 hit combo. Long sword for reach and damage but slower then cutlass maybe a 2 hit combo, and a boarding axe with no block and the alt fire is intended to damage the hull of a ship for boarders who need it to sink. no combos but 75% damage and long range and delays between hits It would need to be tweaked.

  • The more options the better. Bring them all on.

  • We be pirates lad...not this guy

  • Longswords would be cool, if I may suggest a few in the same sword family, while still having an array of customizations per sword.
To start, I'd suggest a Sabre.
    alt text
The second edge on a long sword would make backswings problematic for your fellow boarding party members. The sabre gives pretty much the same reach and thrust option of a longsword.

Or perhaps something shorter and more defensive, like a main gauche?
    alt text
or other forms of parrying daggers.
    alt text
Boarding Axe is also a great idea. Something heavier and slower, but more damage.
    Historically simple: alt text
    or out there: alt text
While not really made for hacking and close combat, more for one on one's and duels, let's not forget the Rapier.

Talk about customizations....alt textalt textalt textalt text
Besides, they're already all the rage.....alt text

  • @conal-cuan
Hold your horses there buckaroo! Let's have this thread focused on LONGSWOOOOOORDS... for now =^_^=

    Love all the ideas though!

  • YES!!! Plz Rare give me my longsword so I can start slicing galleons in half like this:

Oops, video didn't show what the actual sword looked like so here:

I let you know that i don't wanna be look like a medieval crusader or knight . More types of sabers , gauche and rapier are ok ! More different types of blunderbusses and musketry too and give us more types of flintlock pistols. Maybe a boarding axe but don't let us look like robin hood or ivanhoe.. or sir garwain. And i don't wanna have weapons they looks like Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones style. I'am not Frodo or King Arthur and i'am not John Snow. And if i wanna play Kingdom Come Deliverance then i do this .

  • I went ahead and posted my own thread about Melee changes, as I don't want to take away from yours. Needless to say, I'm not in the camp of wanting Longswords in the game, I think there are more fitting Melee options we should see instead. Fair suggestion though, cause Melee does need some love!

  • Medieval pirates maybe, but we're 17th to 19th century pirates. And later pirates used cutlass like weapons because they were better.

  • @durengo-germany
THAT'S 'CAPTAIN FRODO' TO YOU YA BILGE RAT!!!

  • @fantome-of-blue

I do believe I pointed this out already, But I also pointed out that any Pirate in the 17th Century with a Longsword would have a weapon that was MADE only a few decades ago!

Think about that! If I was a Pirate in the Golden Age of Sail, an authentic Longsword in my hands could have been manufactured for my FATHER, or even my Grandfather!

    Context ^_^

  • @yadroak well, strictly speaking most medieval soldiers used spears and falchions, which was a kind of cheap single edged sword, or they used swords that were mass manufactured for their lord's army. They weren't quality weapons, but sure … why not.
