Enough With the Drip-feeding of Cosmetics

  • Enough with the drip feeding of content that should have been in the game since launch, I'm talking about all of the cosmetics that were in the alpha/beta and trailers. They obviously have them ready and I don't understand why they're just slowly releasing all these cosmetics. I'm hoping that with the hungering deep dlc comes all the cosmetics that should have already been in the game and then some.

  • Is this so that you can dress up your pirate nicely and put some nice sails on your boat. Screencaption it for twitter to get some likes?

  • If Rare gave you all the content in one go, and never any new items, you would get bored much quicker, moan about lack of new content and complain why spending your money was worth it.
PPL always [mod edited] and moan, rather than accept that the developers are trying to make the game last longer in your interests and give value for money.
Yes, that is not their only concern, but respect to Rare for wanting to give a roadmap, letting players know the game will get bigger and hopefully better, and being open with the community

In the context of armor design, events, enemies, etc., you have a point; however, simple re-colored skins for ship sails and hulls (re-coloring of weapon and armor skins too)? There's absolutely no reason why they're so limited in amount currently.

If/when something like all-black sails are introduced, the hunger for "new content" isn't going to be satisfied, so why they're waiting to implement similar items doesn't make sense.

"Dude, if your car came with all the necessities, you'd get bored of it soooo quickly..! You should appreciate your car lacking wheels, so you have something to look forward to."

    Delusional.

I’d complain about the lack of new content? Well if they released something it would get me back to actually playing the game. If they drip feed 1 outfit a week, the game would die so quickly

  • @getschmiton

They drip feed us because we are the rats in their cage of no content, just us and a drip feeder filled with c*****e.

  • haha c*****e is a hell of a drug.

yah the cosmetic situation currently is bad, i havent seen any of these 'drips' though. did they add a new thing or two i didn't see? or are you referring to whatever we may be getting 'soon'

  • It's not just the lack of content, it's the lack of ways to earn said content.

The ONLY way to get new gear is to grind faction fetch quests, that's it. I would be ok with the ridiculously small amount of gear if unlocking certain items meant you accomplished something BEYOND hitting a specific level.

Right now all I can say when I see a sail is "oh, one of the pirates on that shipped has turned in a lot of chests"...how they got those chests, I have some guesses but I have no idea if they are good at questing or skull forts or sailing or PVP or what...only that they turned in a s**t ton of a single item.

  • @getschmiton I just wish there was a load more base line cosmetics. There are so many great designs in the art books.

I don't mind drip feeding of fancy sets or ones that are tied to special events. Just give us more base level stuff for more customisation options.

  • @lenny2k3 accept this is not a car, its a game.

Sea of thieves has content? xD

  • Simple solution they should raise prices for all this stuff too 800% and u will get never be bored how sounds this ?

You are comparing 2 things that have no correlation. "Necessities" are coming weekly. Stuff like extra skins and stuff is coming slowly over time. Games like Call of duty or csgo do the exact same thing with skins. I dont know why players feel the need to complain about sea of thieves.

  • @dough3er
Doesn't matter, just because something is not literally the same, does not mean you cannot make comparisons. Then again, what's the point of giving logical reasonings to people like you.

    See above.
Of course you can compare two different things. Saying otherwise is highly illogical and plain idiotic famalam.

I am aware that some of you will defend every decision Rare makes until death, but there has to be a limit to the mental gymnastics.

  • @dough3er Really? What's next? Devs should give us only 1 level of the game per month, so we won't get everything at once and get bored quicker? This game is all about cosmetics. Everything you do is for the cosmetics. It's fair to expect more than 4 in the full game... To be fair, there should be 5x the amount on release and then some every month.

  • Drip feeding of any content to Sea of Thieves is assuredly the incorrect approach to take if the future of the game is cared about at all.

  • @getschmiton I imagine thats likely content that isn't properly polished or working properly with the random pirate generator. The current line up of clothing does a pretty good job of not clipping through each other, I could see that being tough to manage on random models.

  • @dough3er @TheJellydonut78 Ever heard of something called an "analogy" before?

  • @mad-mordechai yes but an analogy needs to make sense. By your analogy you are saying that cosmetics are necesities like wheels of a car. False. The game is fine and works without cosmetic items. So if you want to insult me by saying I dont know what an analogy is go ahead. Your analogy simply doesnt make sense.

  • @thejellydonut78 Cosmetics ARE a necessity. They are literally the sole progression of this game and there needs to be a lot more of it.

  • It's not a "drip feed" when you tear off the nozzle, c**g the bottle in 1 gulp and vomit it out.

It's not Rare's fault that people have put a months of full time job hours grinding and min/maxing an almost wholly flat progression system in their barely 30 days old game.

EDIT: I'm not at all saying there shouldn't be more cosmetics, but I also KNOW that there will be. If you have them all already and have earned more than probably 200K (and even that could maybe be high end of solo/duo play - I fully admit Galleon/Fort play could reasonably put you North of that but you get the idea) you are playing at a pace/capacity that perhaps exceeds the game's intended design. Also not saying that can't be fun but doing that AND complaining seems very un-self-aware.

  • @merlin-mav-k Hard to design a game around that kind of addiction without catering to/ enabling it

I don't think you read my post, what I said was they should have put all of the cosmetics they had ready since before release (i.e the cosmetics in the alpha, betas and trailers). I have an issue with how little cosmetic variety there is in the game right now. I think that they should have put all of the cosmetics they had ready for release and then add more in future updates. What they're doing now is slowly giving us the cosmetics that they had ready before the game released instead of designing new cosmetics for future content updates, it's lazy in my opinion.

False choice fallacy. Who says that the option is all the content now and none in the future?

They can release the content they developed now and MORE later.

Blizzard has shown that a company can constantly come up with new cosmetic items patch after patch for 14 years straight.

  • @perfecshionist You didn't read the post mate, I was arguing against releasing all content in 1 go

  • @getschmiton Why should they, perhaps there were issues, or to keep players hooked on something they liked the look of, save a little for later?

  • @dough3er said in Enough With the Drip-feeding of Cosmetics:

@perfecshionist You didn't read the post mate, I was arguing against releasing all content in 1 go

I didn't misread your comment. It was a clear false choice fallacy. I understood you were arguing against releasing all the content now. But you framed it as though the choice was releasing all the content they have developed now and none later, or some now and some later.

My response was a third choice that your framing failed to acknowledge; all the content they have developed now and MORE later.

Go to the shipwright. Then just shake your head in awe at Rare's incompetence.

  • @mrgrim67686 haha i havent seen the ship stuff yet but the images of the clothes got me goin wild haha i want to see more of this. if they drop like 4 outfits every month or two ill be a happy guy. Now just waiting to see these weekly events later this month. That is game make/break/ing to me. Gota jazz up our rep earning and give us a reason to keep coming back.

Except your poor example is not a logical reasoning, it is not even a logical fallacy - it is an illogical fallacy as it is false and illogical. One is necessary for the operation of the item, the other is not. Your comparison fails miserably and has been rightly called out for it. Please try again.

Because it's a shallow fetch grind better suited for F2P mobile games. That's why. Now you understand.

    Sure.
It's more of a tongue in cheek joke though, but social cues is hard, I get that, so the obvious exaggeration might have flew past someones head. I could've said lacking each and every extra equipment in the entire car, but that would've been way more boring.
