I have done pretty extensive testing on weapon damege values from finding friendly fellows on the sea and from what I can find is as follows.
Weapon damege is random on guns, there is an amount of damege that each bullet is calculated to be around when it is shot, however each bullet does not always do the same amount. For those of you who were wondering why your pistol took 3 shots to kill when the enemy did not cronch on a banana, this is why.
The pistol does around 50% health on a shot, however occasionally it may do less, and maybe somtimes it does more. In the case that your pistol does less than 50% twice, this is when you need three shots to kill.
However when you are using the sailor eye of reach, each bullet does around 65% of the enemy pirate's health, this is why the eye of reach will always kill in two hits if they do not eat a banana. Due to the long reload however, this is not a likely outcome. (In good news, 4 shots from an eye of reach will kill any pirate even if they eat all their bananas, 3 shots if they do not eat two after the second bullet)
things that do not affect bullet damege:
-sprinting while getting shot
-holding a chest, skull, or cage
-headshots
-arm or leg shots
-range (there is no damege falloff)
-getting shot in the back
-using a tool
-bodytypes (big or small)
It is also possible that lag may cause some bullets to not register, even though it gave a hitmarker, however this is hard to test and I have no data on it.
