Voyages

  • All right. So I'll say this outright. Missions at higher level rarely give out greater rewards. The entire reward system for SoT is completely backwards.
I might be beating a dead horse, because I haven't bothered reading if any other posts of this kind exist. It's laughable that 3 lvl35+ missions for gold hoarders give 3 seafarer and a marauder...
I really want to like this game.

  • @iamwarr 4 missions 4 seafarer's

  • Completely agreed. The amount of reward to effort is totally off in this game. You're better off spending half an hour at a skeleton fort than spending that half an hour questing. Let's look at how that works out real quick. So, half an hour of a dinky gold hoarder quest will net you say 3 chests, 6+ if you're lucky. However, the rarity of the chests varies and you could as OP has said end up with 80 gold chests for all the work put in to acquiring them.

But if you just server hop and find skeleton forts, you'll easily make 15k gold in about half an hour. Nobody really contests these forts anyways. This completely removes any desire to actually do quests in the game since they yield so little even into higher levels. Ask a friend if they'd rather spend half an hour hoping to get a few okay chests for hundreds of hours, or if they want to go raid a pirate fort for a bit and make multiple times the amount of gold. Anyone with half a brain would choose the fort.

Not to mention after you do one you can just server hop till you find another. The forts aren't even hard to solo on your own and again, nobody ever really contests them. Only rarely have me and my friends had to fight for a fort and we've yet to lose one.

So your options for playing this game, strictly from an efficiency standpoint, are repeating the same stupidly easy fort a thousand times or sitting at port waiting for a ship to come along so you can steal their loot.

Rare, I don't know if you'll ever read this and I don't really care at this point, but you've made a very unique game with very shallow gameplay. Even if someone just wanted to relax and do quests, it's the same damn quests over and over. Go to X island, dig on X, go to next island. It's the same for every other faction too. Go to island, find X, put X in cage, leave.

This is not a $60 game. This is a $60 water simulator.

  • Agreed 100%

  • @iamwarr Same here. I did 2 level 30 Gold hoarders in a row and got a seafarer and castaway on voyage one and a single seafarer on voyage two.
Then I did the level 25 hoarder voyage I still had and got 2 chapters and the first one had 2 captains and a marauders chest in it. Of course then I got ambushed by some cheaters running the invulnerability hack but I digress.

  • They should just make chests worth more depending on your level. If your level 5, castaway is like 80 gold, level 30, make it like 300 gold. This gives incentive to level up.

The main issue is the cost of the voyage conpared to the return depending on the random stuff you find. I feel like this might fix some things.

  • Yea, im at level 29 gold hoarders right now and the grind is pretty bad. At this point I don't even bother with castaway chests, the moment I see them I just move on to the next one because it just isn't worth the time. Castaway chests don't even pay enough for my voyages. I only do treasure maps, and don't bother with riddles because they pay so little for the time invested. Even 4 step riddles still give me seafarers/castaway chests. My strategy right now is to cycle through voyages until I get a treasure map with more than 1 X on it, these are typically going to be captains chests which atleast increase rep by a noticeable amount. Due to the high cost of my voyages and the low payouts, I definitely wouldn't do these for the gold. If I want gold, I do either skeleton forts or merchant quests.

Chest values should scale with level. Castaway/seafarer chests should increase in value as you level up, so they are still worth taking at higher levels.
