There was a vid on the Sea of Thieves Youtube channel with Mike Chapman explaining that you pay once you dont pay again except for cosmetic items.

@timmehsee think it was said something along the lines that the first content update that is happening sometime 3 months after release will be "free".

The first 1-2 years of dlc content needs to be free considering it's £50, especially if it's as bare bones as I suspect it will be. IMHO this game should've been released as EA for a lot cheaper or ftp, that way people are a lot less critical about such things. Mind you, only cosmetic progression kinda kills the ftp option.
Man I hope I'm super wrong and this game is loaded with content and they are really generous with the patches. Mind you, this is M$ we're talking about, so not hopeful there...so much potential just waiting to be ruined. Man I'm jaded, sorry!
@moadeebe give it 1 year and this game will be free to play :) they will make more money from people buying cosmetics than people buying the game lol
