For me crouching is a must. How can you not have a crouch button in a 2018 First person Adventure game?
No one thought it'd be cool to have to crouch into really small caves or whatnot, dodge a cannonball just in time.
To get a more upclose look at ur ship, pets ( when implemented ),etc.
I have many occasions sneaking on pirates or even just watching afar from the trees and wishing i could crouch.
I was actually more surprised that our mates in this game had the ability to jump.
There's really no need to jump at the moment, unless you want to witness a breathtaking view from some of those rocks out there, but since we are able to jump, however, might as well crouch too. The only thing I would like to mention is the button mapping and how buttons can compete with one another let alone talk about commands themselves; keyboard issue mainly. The more abilities we get, the sweeter the world, but the more buttons is essentially needed as well and so... unless...
Here's the deal:
We need to think how all this affects our fingers and wrists too. So, instead of assigning a dedicated jump and crouch buttons, weave different types of acrobatics into the fantasies themselves. Living a sniper fantasy, but the jumping button would be in the way? Make it crouch instead while handling the rifle. Have a mate whose body type is slim like a monkey? Make the button have 'em parkour the environment instead. A hoard of skeletons coming your way uphill and nowhere to go? Have a beefy enough mate go roll downhill like a wreeeecking baaaaaall... and hope for a... oh, oh, oh STRIKE!!
TL;DR: Instead of couple dedicated buttons with generic commands, have them provide situational feats based on the mate we have chosen and where they are whenever they are. Jumping, crouching, parkouring, grappling, wrecking, hiding, bouncing, towing, rowing, fishing, drinking, reloading, dancing, washing, sharpening, gambling, masking yada yada yada and so on. Keep it simple. Like the one thing Tom Clancy's The Division had it right. Yeah, that! Not just crouching, but taking cover whenever you actually need to. LOL

Ok!
Annnnnd....DONE! 👍🏼
Hiding is irrelevant until they remove perimitive gamer-tags. Gamer tags showing up once literally on top of an enemy, or face-to-face with another pirate is fine. But when they can see your gamer-tag atleast 50 feet away, this eliminates any relevance to sneaking around.
A game called sea of thieves... and no sneaking...

Me and my friends would love crouching. Crouching used for sneaking would be its secondary purpose for me. Cause let's be real...
And this is precisely why crouching isnt in the game as people wouldnt really use it to duck a cannonball or be sneaky, no theyll just want to dunk on the person theyve killed and thats an attitude Rare do not want in the game. Please do not insult me by saying that only a minority do that, it rarely happens....we all know thats a big fat lie :)
The only conceivable way it could be implemented would be to have it on a cooldown so it cannot be spammed. In regards to sneaking, as many have pointed out, its simply not necessary but I can see how it would be perhaps beneficial at times but in regards to hiding, well theres the sit/sleep emote.
Also, its abit cheeky to assume pioneers wanted it this way and very presumptuous to say you know what we have tested when infact the alpha has been around alot longer than the pioneer aspect and low and behold, crouching still wasnt in that :P
@aprovoked-mango You're right that it can be rude behavior, but in SoT you couldn't t-bag on anyone because their character vanishes after they die. So it would either be used for sneaking or celebrating/dancing with the crewmates (hence the gif) :)
I'm all for crouching. I also think you should hide nameplate when crouched since the purpose is to be stealthy and that is a legitimate and even expected aspect of being a thief/pirate. To balance that you need drawbacks though, so maybe not only do you move slower, but perhaps you also can't draw your guns when crouched (maybe let players still access their melee weapon though for assassinations). That way we don't have the issue of someone crouching with their sniper rifle out picking ppl off who can't see them.
Another issue needing resolved though is the button mapping. What button would ya use to crouch? Normally B works well, but that also currently drops whatever you are holding so if you snuck onto a boat to steal their chests and are tryna carry it back to your sloop stealthily, we need another button to keep ya from having to juggle the chest (which is loud and dumb). Maybe the right thumbstick button toggles it?
@capn-light9g You're right, there is no need to put something like that in the game when Rare doesn't care enough to make an effort to revolve some of the game play around it, for example making areas on islands only accessible though crouching and reward exploring properly by doing so.
@franzborg
You can just use the sit emote to accomplish the same thing & you also get the advantage of 3rd person perspective.
No need for crouch!@logansdadtoo but you can't crouch walk which would be the main reason to add it, and the emot won't hide your nameplate
@zynthetikk86
This isn't Hitman or MGS, the amount of stealth required is minimal, & in the circumstances where it is used 'creeping' isn't really going to be of much benefit anyway.
The only people to really benefit from crouching would be campers, but they wouldn't call it camping, it would be hiding!@logansdadtoo No it isn't but sneaking is a big part of being a pirate.
Haven't you seen any pirate films? They always have atleast one scene where they sneak around.Also, since when have being able to crouch counted as a stealth game?
Hiding is perfect for ambushes or when you are alone and a crew is hunting you.
You can't really camp with the sniper since you'll see the glare from the scope.@logansdadtoo that's why we're trying to make the devs add it, look at the poll, you're minority here.
