Proportionate Respawn Timer

  • I'd like us to discuss this concept.

The less players in your crew, the quicker you respawn. The bonus might be acceptable at around a 15% reduction per player, so a solo player gets a 45% respawn time reduction. Percentages are non-accumulative, each 15% increment makes the same reductions.

So if the respawn time is 30 seconds, each player short of 4 would have a spawn time of 25.5 seconds, 21 seconds and 16.5 seconds. This is an example, I do no know the current respawn time.

It serves to even the playing field between different crew sizes, less so during ranged battles (where ship damage carries more weight than player damage) but more so during boarding actions and crew conflict. Obviously a solo player boarded by a 4 man crew should be done for, but I'd do feel like this smooths things out a little for those solo players that put up a good fight.

Also a 3 player galleon vs 4 player galleon or 1 player sloop vs 2 player sloop currently is pure advantage for the crew with an extra man. I'm not saying this needs fixing, but i'ts a suggestion I haven't heard yet and I'd like to get some opinions.

  • @inbred-chimera I'm bumping this because this NEEDS to happen. It's too hard for a single player to survive as is, especially since you can be knocked off your ship or insta-killed by cannon balls.

  • This interests me. The bulk of the respawn time is after you pass through the doors on the Ferry of the Damned anyway, a shorter wait for smaller crews shouldn't change up gameplay meaningfully.

  • @inbred-chimera While i like your idea, im not sure how it can be implemented as the respawn has to do with loading and hardware more then limits in code. Also this may encourage more spawn killing. This would need to be tested. I courisous how this would work in practice.

  • @enf0rcer Yep, you are right. Before this concept (even though I like it like that, don´t know how the times will work out tho) can be implemented, the loading issue has to be adressed.
I experience it every day with my crew. We are at an island to catch chicken, none to be found so we kill all of us with one gunpowder to reset the island. While I got an SSD (Samsung 970 EVO) one of my standart crewmates runs the game on an HDD and the other one plays on Xbox. After the door openes I get out, grab a coop and jump off the ship, when my PC friend finally gets out of the loading screen. At the time my Xbox friend is loaded back at the ship, I already reached the island, sometimes even catched a chicken.

So as @Lesrid said, the bulk is in the loading time, especially for Xbox players, what can be seen as an advantage for PC players and even more for those with strong hardware.
(Maybe connection as well, but we haven´t experienced something there yet, while one of those guys I play with lives on west coast, the other on east coast and me in germany. SO we always got someone with a very high ping but never saw that much of a difference in the "loading rank")

  • @lightraybenzi As this thread is a few months old mate and is necroing. They will lock it.

They will recommend you make a new thread on the subject instead :) Which you should as this thread makes a lot of sense.
