Parley!! What a kind of Pirate you are if you don't respect the Parley Code?! :D

  • I don't know if it was already discussed as an argument .. but why not introduce the Parley in SoT? [The root of the word parley is parler, which is the French verb "to speak"]

For example.. we can play our instruments before a battle/battleship.

What do you think about this idea?

  • Well...The code is more like a set of guidelines..so...

  • @touchdown1504
D****t you beat me to it lol

  • @captain-alastyn well, we can already parley using mics. I guess this is more of a guideline than actual code as I doubt you'll get everyone to agree on one way to trigger a parley discussion between crews.
Parley can still be and was done throughout the previous 2 betas (at least in my own experience).

Captain Barbossa (spelling?) beat us both to it!

  • You would be a smart pirate who lives a long life if you dont respect the parley on just faith alone.
What better way to get a sucker to get close to you than to say parley and him sail right to you.

  • Yes, you're right! But I imagine the Parley as a way to save your life by reaching a compromise with the opponent. Obviously the Parley would be used in a disadvantaged situation. So to convince your opponent not to steal and kill you, you should give something very special ... like ... secret information (physical objects that you keep in your inventory) that can not be stolen by killing you.

  • @drahgoone Exatly!!! With the "information object" you can save your life and your tresures!
You could find this "information object" on the islands.. like the glass bottles for example.

Obviously, nobody gives you the certainty that the enemy will kill you and steal the treasures equally. What pirate would you be?

  • @captain-alastyn if players actually respected the pirate code it would.be very boring because pirates did not attack each other :D

  • @metalman981 no.. if you use Parley it means that you are in a bad position. So use the Parley is your ultimate chance! They could add a "Parley" button .. at that moment the opponent will have to give a "yes" or "no" answer .. if the answer is YES will continue with the exchange otherwise if the answer is NO it will continue normally and you problably die

  • I apologize as I have also just posted a topic about this! Great minds think alike! ;)

Parley would be brilliant as I made friends with some guys on a galleon but was still cautious of them Everytime I bumped into them

  • @captain-alastyn just add a "parley!" option to the chat wheel. Then players could do with it what they will.

  • @i-cyberwolf-i Don't worry! Even so.. me too, when I played the instrument I made friends with an opposing team and we had fun together for a while.

  • @captain-alastyn I have to say i was dissapointed when i did not see a reference to Parley in the Code

  • @capn-light9g Yeees! Add "Parley" option to the chat wheel is a good idea! .. but I repeat the concept that I have expressed befor.. to make the "parley" work you must have something to give in return.

[sorry for my english.. I m italian]

  • @dustlessboot Me too! that's why I opened this discussion

  • They say I broke the code but I'm a privateer.

  • @munchy-ham Privateer - Good point, it would be interesting to have nations and traders in the game which would allow you to become a privateer for a country and attack traders from other nations but it might be a bit outside of the original scope. Have you ever played Naval Action?

Well...The code is more like a set of guidelines..so...

i have someone that might disagree. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6OvsJqimfg

  • Just having some basic respect for other players would be a good start.

  • Do you know what would be nice? Having a reputation bar. That is, according to your actions you will either be a pirate of honor or not ... moving the pointer either to the right or to the left.

[for example respecting the YES of the Parley you will move the bar to the pirate of honor, if you instead answer YES to the Parley but then do not respect the Parlay Agreement the indicator will move in the opposite direction]

Someone have a problem with the code?

  • Hi there pirates,

I like the idea of the Parley, but i'm sure that will be abused from some player. Another idea that i read about on the forum and Rare is considering to add post launch are different flags to raise on your ship to comunicate your intentions, of course also this system con be abused by some players.

We also know that a kind of trumpet (i dont remember the english word) that spread your voice chat further away is coming post launch. So we will be able to voice talk with ships far away from us.

@captain-alastyn I'm also Italian, we may set sail together sometime 😃

  • @Captain-Alastyn Parleeey! I sincerely hope that they will be able to insert it!

  • Seems kinda shoe horned into game if you're adding a official mechanic for "talking" when there's voice chat...

If you want to parley, it's up to you to negotiate via the voice chat.

If anything, perhaps there could be loading screen tips that introduce pirate code concepts to players who don't read all of rares community posts. Rare's community "pirate code" and the concept of parley could be introduced to people, but forcing them to adhere to it via some mechanic would be clunky.

  • @captain-alastyn LOL won't stop my cannon balls.

I would, in the future, appreciate you not pointing out the hypocrisy of Captain Hector Barbossa...He is sort of my pirate role model and you are making him look bad!

  • I totally agree with the need for a universal pirate code to establish a partner ship. I mean how cool would it be to join up with 10 ships all sailing the High Seas doing battle with other fleets! Take it a step further, having pirate clans that hold territory across the map. An non-stop territory battle trying to control land and pirate bases. Just like in Elder Scrolls conquest. That would be sweet!

  • @vulpesvelox yeees, it could be a interesting idea

  • From what I can tell of Rare's vision for the game, and what I've experienced in my testing over the past year, they are trying to steer away from layering system after system on top of the characters, but instead seek to keep it simple and allow you to present yourself as you see fit.

Tools to aid interaction, like a "parlay" shout on the chat wheel support their intent, but a ranked reputation system along with pop-up choices of whether to honor requests or not, and all sorts of other menu and stat-based schemes seem out of place here.

They have a singularly unique vision for the game and how it will feel, and this constant need to suggest things from other games does not really have much weight in this particular argument.

Rare isn't trying to reinvent the wheel here... they're building a boat. Suggesting new types of tires for it won't accomplish much of anything.

  • @dustlessboot No I have not but I'll look into it!

  • @touchdown1504 Barbossa seems to be the type that finds any sort of loop hole that he can in the code. like with the parley scene he agreed with Elizabeth to leave the city. she never mentioned being able to get off the ship herself :P so for him its more guidelines if he is able to find any loopholes in the rules.

  • @jarofpeachz What loophole? Leaving the ship was never part of the bargain, besides...the code is for Pirates...which at the time she wasn't. You guys quit trying to paint CAPTAIN Barbossa in a bad light!

  • @touchdown1504 well . . . he is a pirate. so to all the land lubbers eye's, he is a bad guy. maybe the code is a bit more loose until the strict and by the book captain Teague is within hearing range. c:
