Sea of Thieves rediculous pricing needs to stop!

  • Xbox AAA console prices... SoT is not a pc game realy... it's more like a xbox game, convert as a pc cross play-xbox... lucky we don't have to pay more actualy... make it cross play wasn't a piece of cake i believe... at worst wait a month and buy it second hand cd... im sure gonna be cheaper...

  • @quadratatom306 I don't mind the price, keep it where it's at. In fact, if you could increase the price that would work too, would keep more of the children out of the game.

  • @v**a-hombre said in Sea of Thieves rediculous pricing needs to stop!:

I have a hard time dropping $60-70 on a game as well. My solution? If I know it's something I'm going to get no matter what, I pre-order it at Gamestop far in advance and then put like ten dollars a pay on it.

If I'm on the fence, I tuck $10 a pay into an envelope. Either way, by the time the release rolls round I usually have it paid off.

This is a really good idea, makes a lot more sense and you will be ready at release.

  • I don't understand this narrative that it's not worth full price. It's an endless game. People pay full price for single player experiences that are over in 6 hours. I've played the beta alone way longer that most single player games.

  • @twiladerp You’re right on point there! It gets under my skin a bit that there are those who don’t understand that the 5 years of development, paying staff, travel, server farms, MS certification, etc... is all money that has been spent. Every single dime represents liability, the folks at Rare know that all to well, especially when running teams in multiple locations (some which are cost monsters like say the UK). For a small company to emerge from a small house to household is a huge step; one that has incredible risk, and their lives poured into it. The game industry has become a smaller fishbowl with bigger fish. I for one have been waiting for a game like this forever and have confidence that Rare is going to work out the balance needed in PvP/PvE... You could go to see a movie that’s 1.5-2 hours 3 to 4 times for what this game will provide in interaction/teamwork and a barrel of laughs each time you set sail.
Vote with your dollar is what I always say.

  • Well, if I sell my banana for 200 $ to a buying customer then this banana is worth 200 $ at the time of sale.
The value an item has is the price at which it was sold. This price can vary in time and is only equal to what buyers pay. I suggest you read what MisterDoomed said:
"Game is worth whatever YOU will pay for it. Once you learn about free market and capitalism your soul will be free.
Buy it if its worth it. Dont buy it if its not. Tada !"

  • @twiladerp i have no idea what you are saying in response to my post.

  • @hammy-hamstar Fans need to send money to Rare cause otherwise Rare be dead is what he is saying! And if Rare dies, Microsoft will suffer the wrath of angry fans. So buy the game and add 30% in donation to Rare please :]
Do correct me if I also did not understand what twiladerp meant.

  • @ironuzuka we appear to agree lets go with that.

  • @naoshadowpaws No way. Steam titles don't get a price break. If anything, publishers have to either increase their price or take a hit for the portion Steam keeps of each sale. Steam isn't a free distribution system mate.

  • I don't think this has been mentioned enough but Game Pass is the solution for people who think the full price is not worth it. I've been in that same boat since they announced the price. I'm a family man & my days of spending full price on a game are long behind me. And that's regardless of it's content during the Beta or what's coming at launch. The great thing about the Insider program is it gave me a chance to play the game for free & help shape it's future. But after the price announcement I thought that's all I would get to play. Then the Game Pass news gave me a new opportunity. It got me excited that I will get to play on launch day. And since I use Bing/Microsoft Rewards I can get Game Pass for free instead of paying $10/mo! So if you don't think $60 is worth it then try Game Pass. They also offer a 14-day free trial if you don't feel like using Bing/Microsoft Rewards.

  • I'm told it costs $120 New Zealand dollars which comes to about 90 USD

I think most the people who don't have a problem with the price are US console users.

  • I mean cheaper is better but they need to make a profit, games aren't cheap these days. Gaming has gotten a lot more expensive. You can also just get the game pass and play the game in the release date.

  • @canadianmuscle3 That's stupid. So you're telling me that if they sold the game separately for xbox and PC i could get the game at half price? So all the high price tag is for, is to cheat money from people who don't own both an Xbox and PC, what a shady business practice who would ever support such a game?

  • @thejakal222
Guess you wont be buying it then. At least you stand up for your principles.
See you on the sea err wait no i wont.

  • @chveers except the game in the EU cost $86 = 70£. Europeans have to pay almost 50% more than the US counterpart.

  • @ancienttheron Well with a DLC heavy game i can get the base game, decide if the base game seems good and then pay the extra for the DLC.
Also just because they say DLC won't cost anything doesn't promise there will actually be additional content added to the game after launch. So you could be paying what normally would amount to the standard game + DLC without getting any DLC.

  • It's a fair price for what the game offers. if you dont like the price, wait for it to come down to buy it or get gamepass.

the devs have been working on this game for years and deserve to be compensated accordingly.

  • @kdm - You compare 2 games that have campaigns to SoT that doesn't have a campaign. So $60 for a game is reasonable that has a campaign.

  • Games today always have an “extended edition” or “gold” that is like $80 on avg.. or a “season pass” that doesn’t give you all that the game has to offer. The $60 for SoT is not a down payment like other games. It’s a quality game and it’s worth the price

  • @quadratatom306 Ladies and gentlemen, this is what the gaming community has de-evolved to. 60$ for this game is completely fair. I actually think the price should be increased.

  • The price is the same as any other AAA title on the market. Blame your government for the insane taxes if it bothers you.

  • I've gotten more fun value than the price of the game just out of the game just from the betas. If you don't like the game and think it isn't worth $60, don't buy it. I personally would (and probably will via micros) pay way more than that for it.

  • @thejakal222 said in Sea of Thieves rediculous pricing needs to stop!:

Instead of blaming the developers blame your respective legislators for slapping massive taxes on imports. No company in their right mind is going to absorb that tax for the consumer, the tax is going to get passed on to you. But you have options:

    1. Game Pass. No need to beat a dead horse on this one.
    2. Move to U.S. of A
    3. Vote better politicians in
    4. Steal a copy (not suggesting this, I just know it is an option)
    5. Don't buy it at all, go play something else
    6. Or just go ahead and buy it and deal with the cost. If it is worth it to you price should not matter. If it is not worth it this discussion doesn't matter. Give it a year, if it all goes well the price should drop anyway. If it goes terrible, the price will really drop!
  • I'm not in the business of ruffling anyone's feathers, but I'd like to offer my method of justifying how much I may or may not spend on a video game:

What is your cost per hour of gameplay? I realize I'm in the fantastic US of A, so from the sound of it, I have one of the cheaper prices to pay for games. However, here in the states (at least where I live), a trip to the theater can cost upwards of $20 for my wife and I to go to a movie ($30 if you remove the military discount, $40 if you add a drink or popcorn). So base value, with my military discount, assuming a 2 hour movie, is $5/hour of entertainment, per person.

So, let's say I only spend 20 hours on this game (that's one month of only playing 5 hours on each weekend, and I think it's safe to assume that I will end up playing much more than that). Already, I'm down to $3/hour of entertainment. Suppose my wife jumps on with me the entire time? I don't have to buy an extra copy because of family sharing of games on Xbox Live Gold. Then we're talking $1.5/hour. That's a pretty sweet deal, honestly.

Just an observation, and my way to look at it, that's all.

  • As someone who plays on console pricing for games has never been an issue. If you feel like this game isn’t worth the set price then you just don’t buy it. But the way I see it is a game as amazing as this cost the same as a game that I have no interest it just comes down to if I think it’s worth it or not.

  • Play the game on Xbox. With the game subscription you can get the game for around $10 a month, with a bunch of other games. Problem solved.

  • Totally worth whatever they want to charge.

  • @quadratatom306 i completely disagree, i think you should wait for the full game content to start judging if the price is unfair or not.

microsoft even made sea of thieves for free in the gamepass.

and above all, they're the game developers here, they know exactly what the price of their game should be, not for it's beauty, but for it's features and for the amount of money that they spent with it, which should be compensated.

  • According to google 69.99 euros is $86 us dollars
Thats $26(21 euros) more then we are spending over here in the states. That is crazy, almost 90 dollars when we pay 60 dollars. WOW 0.0

Also, the game's publisher(microsoft studios), not Rare has say on pricing in various regions, at least I think so. and they may have to deal with import taxes and stuff, so they may simply be getting the same profit across the world.

  • @canadianmuscle3
Its 110 canadian dollars where QuadratAtom306 is at. Prices can vary greatly by region.

  • @n8cst
"60$ for this game is completely fair. I actually think the price should be increased."

Prices on video games vary greatly by region, in the OPs country its $86 usd, so $60 would be a bargain. I live in the states and am very comfortable at $60.

  • Yeah, for what the PvP people are going to turn this game into, it won’t be worth 60 bucks. Thinking about taking back my pre order, then after initial sales fail a bit, turning around and buying it. They should have known pve servers need to happen. That will be their downfall. This game isn’t worth 60 bucks for a PvP pirate game 👍

  • You can sign in xbox game pass for only one month, them you can play the full game version and based on all content make your decision about the price. Probably will
Have some discount by being on game pass. Otherwise stay on gamepass or wait for a worth price to you. But i hope you join. How more people join better will be the game. I play pvp 99% of the time. What i have to say is that pvp games gives you hundreds of hours!!
