  • @crimsonwhispers that's.... horrid. There is a way to report these guys, and I hope they get permbanned from this game. I also think there's ways to block these people too.

  • @CrimsonWhispers

Im not defending the actions of what they said, however...

-You wont actually be r***d and there is no 'sausage party.
-It's a "Pirate" game with open mics. (If you choose to, you can mute the ingame voice chat for others and leave crew voice on.)
-Most of us live in a democracy. Free speech and all that. (Not saying what they said wasnt hideous)
-Boys are very often immature idiots, i was one... can still be one. But especially young boys. :)

There should definitely be a "mute" system like in "Holdfast - Nations at War"
where you can hold a button to see who is talking and mute them individually.

    TRIGGER WARNING

Also, how about you just roleplay it? Roughly based on history from that time, 3-4 women sailing a ship alone noticed by another sailed by men, chances are... you might get r***d if they catch you. (You know, since alot of pirates where 'on the run' criminals and savages looking for a way through life.)
Bad "joke"/comment i know but its not unrealistic. But how great would it not be to own those fools? And then tell them they just got r***d!? I'd love to see that thats for sure! :)

  • @shadowstrider-7 Yeah, they should at least have a least in the menus that would show the tags of all current players in the server you are in at the moment.

  • @aviindr I believe there was an option to mute all other crews in the settings.

  • @mace007 Well if their voices are recorded somewhere in the Rare servers, then it's possible to hold them accountable for their actions. Doing something like that would make people think twice before acting like that.

  • No verbal threats , harassment or sexual related threats/slur should be tolerated, period!

I agree, people give the "free speech" answer so easily , no wonder our current social state is disgusting.

I witnessed (heard) , crews bullying and flat out insulting kids (who sounded way below their teens) w the most innapropriate abuse. The poor kids didnt even k what to respond and saying its open mic , turn it off, still doesnt justify idiots spewing garbage like that!

Ignoring and letting those idiots get away w such disrepectful actions/words is giving them a justification
to continue to do so, unpunished.

    To all who say they dont care , picture this ;
1/you have a 12 year old daughter and she plays the game
2/she hops online and constantly is mocked, on the receiving end of r**e-threats and other unsavory abuses
3/she cant get anything done , because , well female pirates are like trailer park trash , right?

    WRONG!
Imagine that same daughter gets threaten IRL , imagine someone is sick enough to act out on the threats?
Is it still no big deal?
Well if it is , you'd be unfit to be a parent!
Unfit to even be considered a human being if you think
that sexually threatening another person is "ok" and words dont hurt!

Words are often more damaging then a slap in the face.
A slap in the face heals, words r carved to your very core
and it aint easy to get rid of them , even if they were "a joke"!

So , again , why letting something slide like that that you'd be outraged if it was done to your flesh and blood , even in a game?

So , to anyone w such lowly morales and w total disregard
pertaining to other's feelings : refrain from commenting ,
you are just prooving to all that you r no better then animals.Sorry, animals r way better since they rarely kill their own kind for pleasure!

So , Crimson Whispers , keep on fighting to have trash like that booted of this nice game forever! You got my vote!

  • @crusaderjesus Hello mate, offensive language on the forums (implied or otherwise) is not tolerated as such I have edited your post.

  • @raphael-bahauss thank you! This is exactly what I've been saying. I was the female crewmate on the receiving end of the threats. This game is rated 10+. Could you picture a 10 year old being attacked by six males threatening to drug and r**e her at gunpoint? Oh, wait, it's ONLY a game. These things leave scars. I truly appreciate the support.

  • Please do report their gamertags! mean jokes are no jokes in my opinion!

But don't be discouraged about what happend.
Keep playing, and teach that "s**m" a lesson!

May lots of good ol' fortune find your destiny!

    have a great day

  • Im pretty sure there will be a way to report players soon and provide a reason.
    to punish their behavior

  • Its a shame that happens but a game with 12 year olds is going to be full of a****s like them and i hope you reported them and they are gone forever.

  • @raphael-bahauss "Ignoring and letting those idiots ..."
thats why we suggest a global mute for a time being

"To all who say they dont care , picture this ;"
Teach her where the mute and report button is, teach her words can never truly hurt her as long as she doesnt let them (the sticks and stone phrase)
"she cant get anything done.." where does that argument even come from?

    "WRONG!
Imagine that same daughter gets threaten IRL.."
This isnt IRL, you are safe and sound behind screen, and so is the 12yo daughter, if someone in IRL starts sexually threatening her then you call the police because it has a danger of being legitimate. But since everyone here is anonymous behind a screen then no matter how much threats you get they will never be legitimate, never.
If you are a parent and want your child to do as well as possible in the world then one of the best things you can teach your child is the "sticks and stone" phrase, because then your child can thrive even when faced with negative words.
Has anyone here said that words dont hurt? were saying words only hurt as much as you let them hurt you. Threats IRL is directed to you personally, therefor the police can interfere, being anonymous online behind a screen they can threaten you all they want, it will never be a legitimate threat. teach that 12yo girl that and she will have a mental barrier that no random people online can penetrate.

"Words are more damaging than a slap in the face"
Id rather you burl a bunch of abuse towards me than slapping me or anyone i know in the face.

"you are just prooving to all that you r no better then animals.Sorry, animals r way better since they rarely kill their own kind for pleasure!"
Youre comparing words said online with real life action, this is literally like comparing apples and oranges.

  • @drahgoone said in Inappropriate players:

Online Interactions are not Rated by the ESRB.

Don't take things too seriously, thousands of people have Xbox live, it would be impossible to go on a witch hunt for them all. And do not think it is just Sea of Thieves.

    This.

The best thing Rare can offer is a vote to kick system, but there won't be server admins on standby for when a naughty player is causing an issue.

Any multiplayer experience is unrated by ESRB. If this bothers or concerns you, mute voice chat in the menu, or stick to single player experiences on other games. Even verbal harassment abuse reports that get fielded to microsoft normally get dismissed or overlooked. They don't have the man-power to investigate, and unless you record the interaction, it's hard to prove it via he said/she said accounts. The player might receive an account suspension after so many reports, but it's likely for an hour or less, and all they have to do is call up support and state they are a target of bullying and they'll remove the suspension.

  • For events such as this, remember that your xbox (assuming that was what you were on) remembers the gamertags of everyone you meet or come in close proximity to automatically. You check under your 'recent players' section of your xbox and it will automatically have their names listed. This makes is simpler to report such behavior.

I sincerely hope this does not deter you from enjoying what is, and should be, a welcoming community and game.

  • @andlav Thats nice, well lets just live in a world where unicorns f**t rainbows and pretend the world is filled w only decent human beings. -_-
Words dont hurt as much as acts? You have never worked w the abused now did you? If you did , you wouldnt say such things.
There is a mute button , sure , but how should it be necessary? There is a disclosure and policy vs such behaviour in the user's agreement when you sign in to play.
And regardless , you play w random ppl most of the time
which means insults have already been shouted before you could mute .And , wait a second...isnt it supposed to be a friendly Pirate world? I dont recall RARE stating this was Skull and Bones or Black Wake or PUBG!

IRL or ingame such behavior is not tolerable , no matter what the context!People like you are the problem by making such verbal abuse a banality and something to be discarded by a wrist slap!Truly , comment no more , you just cautioned abuse and the victims of these abuse to take a hide while the abusers run away free , to yell and still insult at will!A mentality that , causes youngsters to avoid dangers on the web , bcuz its a virtual world...you seen the vids bout predators online , the threat is very real , cyberbullying aint a myth! Shame on you!

  • @raphael-bahauss Sorry, I haven't followed the whole discussion, but what would you like Rare to do about this?

  • @gotgabriele Unfortunately , RARE cant predict whoever will say or commit abuse.there r two ways ; 1/ report and once verified , permaban no second chance./2 voice recog for abusive language , but that option is way unrealistic.

In truth , only report button , gets insta ban if more then two r made within a few minutes.Gets verified by a GM or admin I guess , then if there was abuse, permaban!
Obviously some ppl will also abuse the report button , in this case , RARE should also permaban those who report
players for no reason at all. This way , you choose carefully when reporting and also are more cautious when getting into "pirate" mode. Not that I swear or grunt(a lot) , but then again , I mute my mic when doing so... lol

  • @CrimsonWhispers Those are some serious disturbed people if you ask me, and as mentioned before just a small group of the community, a small group we can make smaller by reporting such behavior whenever it happens.
I hope your friend reconsiders to play the game after she sees these posts of people that do respect women in game, and not treat them differently.

  • @raphael-bahauss Yeah, that's the issue, Rare can't predict these things, and if someone started cursing at you or harassing you in any other form, you'd obviously be able to mute or report them only after they did so. There is really no way to prevent this from happening. I guarantee you, in every online game that allows some form of free communication, there will be at least a percentage of toxic players of any age who will offend you in a way or another (feeling protected by their anonymity), from the least severe to the most.

It's a mess to deal with, and really difficult to counteract, which is why most people online have learned to live with whatever is thrown at them and ignore it.

  • @hrknen said in Inappropriate players:

    @andlav
"do you all think he should have been banned?"
    Depending on severity, yes.
At the moment this entire game is built to give tacit permission to these people.
Awful spawning mechanics, no incentive to act in the spirit of the game. No tools for reporting such players.

Rare is apparently sending mixed signals as they have issued a Pirate Code that clearly outlines this behavior as unacceptable, yet provide no method of enforcement.

Should every case be a permanent ban? Probably not.
Should the players outlined by the OP be permanently banned? Yes.
If they really want they can make a new account and buy the game again. Maybe they will eventually learn to play well with others.

No one is saying banter should be banned, but it should clearly adhere to the Pirate Code.
This problem will only worsen as the playerbase grows. Free weekends/Gamepass will also encourage a mass amount of griefers as they don't even have to pay for the game. Nothing to lose by attempting to wreck the community.
If you want to play a game where you run into disgustingly rude players non-stop, there is a plethora of games to do so.
Go play GTAO and ask yourself if that is the sort of community that Rare wants to foster here, that is who they are attracting atm.

Tell me what there is to lose by having Rare develop a robust report system in the game, so these situations can be handled with a simple button click.
I have entered multiple matchmaking sessions where people were shouting the N word before I even loaded onto the ship. These are not the types of people I want associated with a game I play.

So maybe all you people shouting "This isn't the game for you!" are right.
That is not the type of game I want to play.

The ball is in Rare's hands now.

edit: To be clear, I am not offended. I have been a PC gamer for about 20 years now. I am angry.

    Well said thank you.

  • @gotgabriele And that is the sad part, there is an Omerta on such behaviour since its common , but for a game such as this?
Knowing Rare and Microsoft have hands to pull strings ,
if they started implementing a no abuse policy , others would lead the way...just a matter of who will start the movement!
    Perhaps we just did ^^

  • I'll refrain from being extremely realistic here and just issue a blanket statement that while you may get offended from what you hear and see in life, especially online, it is by know means preventable.

Online content policing isn't a legitimate cause for alarm because any litigation, civil or criminal will end with the judge asking you a simple question "Could you have left the situation and avoided the contact?"

If you can answer yes to that, you have no case. You are not entitled to a safe space, or a safe playing environment. ESRB keeps its hands completely out of the MP element for this reason alone. The general consensus is that "Hey, we can't properly monitor your social interactions online, you're on your own."

If the content is too mature for you, I suggest another outlet for your entertainment.

  • @kruqnut said in Inappropriate players:

To be honest i did run into a crew that wanted to r**e us and make us their sex slaves, but we were all male, just sayin.

That doesn't make r**e any less serious of a topic. There needs to be a way to pull up a player list and report in-game, coupled with recordings of the behavior.

  • @crimsonwhispers I was saddened to hear that. Not even as a gamer but as a man I was disheartened. I am really worried that this sort of behaviour has the real potential to do serious harm in a game such as SoT.

  • @face-0-o easy solution; they already record your conversation , easy to verify. And while thinking like that , might just openly say : nothing can be done legally so lets just sit back and enjoy a coffee!Wrong, permaban is the best solution, anyobe gd w the idea that abusive behaviour should be tolerated have no place in games like these!
Because its happening elsewhere doesnt make it right , just saying...
And yes, anyone can just leave the game and not return, now go tell Rare their game is dead, since following your logic, all those not wanting to hear dbaggery will leave and loose money in the process!

Seriously, if you comment just to Troll , dont bother!

I think you misunderstood. What @Face-0-o was saying, is that online interactions cannot (and will not) be legally enforced. However, if the developer were to add a 'player list' and 'vote-to-kick' options to the game, we as players would have better tools to deal with these situations. My best advice to anyone facing similar problems is to record your aggressors and submit it directly to Microsoft for review. Outside of that, as others have said, there's not much else to be done.

  • @shadowstrider-7 I know , but its depressing that ppl look at ways of ignoring things rather then trying to make a chg.
I know he didnt condone abusive content , but by stating no legal recourses can be taken and to just ignore it isnt a valid answer / solution either :(

  • Sadly this is a product of the gaming culture where we have normalized terms such as r**e and other derogatory terms. "We're going to r**e this boss." or "I got r***d by that monster." A lot of people say these things without realizing the real world meanings and consequences. Just like a lot of streamers have been getting in hot water for things they said on stream forgetting they are streaming. Sadly there are a lot of scummy people on the internet that hide behind the farce of anonymity thinking they can say whatever disgusting thing that pops into their head. I've been guilty of it many of time, but as I've grown older in the gaming community I've come to expect better of myself, and hopefully others will see the example our older gamers are setting to have more respect towards derogatory terms and things no one should say if they were saying it face to face with another person.

If you wouldn't say it to your parents/best friends sister/brother. Don't say it on the internet (I know there are some situations that would try to defend this saying oh I say that to my friends/others all the time, so I should be able to say it here. The difference being your friends probably know that you aren't being serious or stupid and will let it slide. Don't be that person.)

We want to build a respectable community? We need to make sure we don't turn into another PUBG or similar.

    Don't be toxic.

Let's make something great with this game and community.

  • The other players' behavior was inexcusable and disgusting, however, threatening to cancel pre-orders isn't the right approach.
Unfortunately, there are still some men who are yet to reach the current state of evolution and I feel ashamed instead of them when I hear such stories.
I think the only ways to combat these are to report them and troll them, let them see you are unfazed.

  • @tokin1 Stand aside, Trump! It's time to make communities great again! Well said.

  • Do not listen to those people

  • The saddest thing in all this , is that we still fight to prevent abusive content ruining this game like it did to others.

It's sad to see people attempting to troll or minimise
abusive behaviour for the sake of "free speech" , false logic and legal issues.
We should strictly be discussing on how to solve and prevent this , not stating nothing can be done, not claiming its normal to accept such , not quoting legal statuses and precedents which obviously wont do gd to anyone.

This post is about making sure Rare knows we find it unacceptable and that measures must be taken.
Be it , voicre rec and ban button etc...
Important thing is ; something can be done to weed out
trolls and abusers and let players truly enjoy the game.

-Thats why I hate ppl relying on laws, irl - online correlation to justify misbehavior!

But then again , my opinion might not be popular ,
but I firmly believe that there is no need and shouldnt be a need to mute ppl off because they vomit abusive nonsense every two seconds. These people shouldnt be allowed to play , period! :(

  • @tokin1 Exactly, if you r in a premade grp and wanna go bout swearing , grunting etc... fine by me , I can be a foulmouth at times , but if I k other ppl outside my group can hear us, ill refrain. Here is a thought ; why not having an option where we can mute ourselves from other players?
At least those not part of our group, we can mute them , figured we could do it for ourselves as well lol !!!

  • Your issue has nothing to do with this game. What they said angers me and as far as I’m concerned Microsoft should suspend their xbox live accounts permanently for talking to you like that!!! But please do not blame this game! It could have happened in any game. They made the dessision to say what they said not the game. They need to be held for their actions not sea of thieves.

  • @sergent-c****r Im pretty sure it wasnt aimed at the game itself, but rather the people she encountered.
Agreed that this game deserves to be free of blame and clean , in the sense that players like that cant play for long!
And contrary to appearances, I enjoy this game, but I fear
that if nothing is done bout the toxicity of certain said players , we wont have a gd experience and thats a shame ;(

I hope it gets solve in some way , so we can freely bash each other' skulls without getting a third degree! ^^
