The Wilds/OOS Update

  • One more suggestion to hope for. Rare I think this update has something in it for everyone to enjoy.

    Part 1: The Wilds Update

    • The wilds are drab and uninteresting, let’s change that. Pirates life 3 has the bayou of purple trees and mystic foliage. Take those assets and fog / lighting, and apply it across a majority of the region. You can keep the layouts for the most part, but add a new coat of paint.

    • Make Daggertooth a Port. I’ve suggested before a storyline of the dark brethren taking it over, but it can be anything. Daggertooth needs mystic brick structures and a shady cobblestone tavern.

    Part 2: OOS Update

    • Every OOS character has a skull hanging on their belt. Now when sailing as an OOS emissary, so do you. When an enemy pirate is killed, their soul lingers, and you can walk up and collect it similarly to how you’d revive someone, but instead you pull out the skull and siphon the spirit into your skull. 2 important things to note; 1 this player is immediately sent to the ferry, 2 You can only do this to each player in the world once before cashing in your emissary.

    • The OOS is missing their third quest type. Give them an adventure that isn’t just killing skeletons or ghost ships. My suggestion is Tombs, similar to the GH Vaults, but these tombs have puzzles where the solutions randomly generate. At the end there can be a hoard battle like the end of the Trickster Tall Tale where you use levers and traps to help kill all the skeletons.

    Give it a thought Rare, this won’t please every pirate, but many more than the past several seasons. I’m sorry to hear about Xbox tearing apart their studios. I hope your jobs and your families are safe.💛

  • Forgot to mention for the OOS idea, at every outpost, there is a Skull Resting on a blue flame in the oos building. This is likely where you would deliver the souls. As an oos emissary the skull would not appear in the stand (because you currently have one on your belt), and you would place it back for rewards.

  • Part 1 is awesome, but I have some gripes with part 2:

    • What happens when Pirates insta-offer to ferry? Does their soul remain behind for a little?
    • Rare tends to avoid commendations or activities specifically revolving around killing other players, something about toxicity in Arena and avoiding camping
    • (Not a complaint but) Skull skins question mark?
  • Forgot to add, too: I do love the idea of Tombs, as OoS has needed a new form of 3rd voyage for a while, and the Skeleton Lord voyage doesn't fill that gap very well imo.

    I’d say that the entire time the enemy is on the ferry their soul sticks around to collect, and when they respawn it’ll disappear.

    Edit:
    Alternatively the player who died could have to recover their soul when they respawn if they don’t want it captured, but that becomes a bit convoluted.

    Also in hourglass it probably shouldn’t send the player to the ferry when collected.
