no way to obtain doubloons? no reason to play. am i the only one?

  • reaper chests dont pay out enough doubloons. since the doubloons are now the only currency needed in the game and its impossible to acquire in any meaningful way outside this new weekeender even which will be what? once a season? am i the only one feeling theres no point in playing since the path to obtain things i want is locked?

  • @quitespace1450 well there are plenty other games out there to play so if not being able to get doubloons is a breaker to you well so be it. The bilge rat weekender is once a month not once a season. The next one isn't until June but then it will be every month. Doubloons are meant to be a rare currency and raising a reaper flag and getting to grade 5 gives you 25 each reaper chest you turn in. The items Duke has will be in his shop for a year so you have plenty time to earn them. It's not meant for you to buy right away.

reaper chests dont pay out enough doubloons.

So there is a way to gain doubloons. It just not enough?

since the doubloons are now the only currency needed in the game

    Who said this?

its impossible to acquire in any meaningful way outside this new weekeender

just said Reaper Chests offer doubloons. Also, those Ashen Chests contain random pouches.

So what I am understanding is You want doubloons fast and easier, which is the reason they reset it because it was too easy and fast. They are suppose to be this rare currency for Rare items. Every game does this, and often they have a...Event where you gain a boost. But its not gonna break the bank.

Those items stay in stock for a "YEAR!" It's achievable and frankly better this way, everyone before had piles of them and bought everything making the Doubloons worthless as gold.

  • yea im definitly playing other stuff which honestly its kinda nice when a game like this destroys a players motiviations to play and gets them to finally remember games are meant to end. not go on forever and ever with live service models. while its nice to get more for our money and to have something familiar to return to again and again its also just more fun having new experiences. but wasnt the whole point of this update to give people more reason to play? hourglass improvements... sure they made for a kinda better experience. if you like pvp. then again i dont know if some of it is still as bad as it always has been. this weekender thing which i thought was spposed to be monthly but might only be once per season if they want to prolong the cosmetic grind... only having doubloons easy to obtain for 3 days every 3 months is kind of insane. thats not making me come back week to week which is the whole point of this season and the coming seasons. also this next update will just be more hourglass just in arena form. as someone who doesnt care about pvp... i am very thankful for new blood in the sailing space. windrose seems full of promise. just an odd choice to be both giving people less to do while trying to get them to play more.... this whole doubloon situation is just wildly incorrectly done

  • I also am not playing, but just because I already cleared all other older commendantions. I just need some other levels in HG, but it's a pain playing outside of gold and glory / community days / fight nights since I'm a solo. What really bothers me is the lack of lore progression. The orb teased a lot of stuff and we aren't getting any of that soon because of custom seas, another feature that won't be used by the vast majority of players but just from content creators and their fan boys. I really hope they give us at least GMU im Season 21 and don't scrap anything.

  • @quitespace1450 again its every month not every 3 months. They only aren't doing it in May and bringing it back in June then it will be MONTHLY

  • I was grinding doubloons as one of my main motivations back when you could actually use them to buy things in outpost shops. Since the doubloon reset, I've actually felt less motivation to play SoT at all. During the weekender I didn't get enough to get everything, and the amount I would need to be able to get the rest of what's available would still require like 40 reaper chests at grade 5. The other side effect of this is that all treasures that sold for doubloons before that now sell for gold are meaningless and get left in vaults. No one cares about trying to open an ashen chest, it's a waste of time when there are better ways to get gold.

  • Players often forget there are other games out there to pass the time. It frankly not healthy to stick to one when things “don’t go your way” and makes it as the game is failing you.

8 years and players expect it to be perfect every time.
Look at Fortnite, slowly becoming what you fear, similar to CoD, Destiny, battlefield and among others.

Move on to the next best thing if you’re tired.

  • @burnbacon no offense my man but these forums are to voice our opinions so that feedback might change the game for the better. Not for life advice from complete strangers. You’re kinda gaslighting this player too, Insinuating he’s not healthy for having a pretty honest opinion.

Doubloons are clearly in an acclimation period too so feedback is more important than ever.

To the main point tho the doubloon game now does feel mismanaged. Like as if I’m in a micro transaction situation where a game makes it almost impossible to get things you want without paying for currency. But instead of being able to pay I’m just a forced to do boring missions.

The game has too much potential. There should be more to look forward to than just the next “weekender”
So that you can finally get the currency that you need to get some time limited item.

  • @BurnBacon It's a bit hypocritical to call out someone for being unhealthily obsessed with something when you yourself overzealously partake in almost every post on these forums...

  • @burnbacon I know you have me blocked so you won't see this but you saying that other games exist is only bolstering their point. They want to achieve what they want in SoT, and have time to play other games. If SoT won't let you achieve what you want without putting in a large amount of play time, that's bad for the long term health of the game as most players would rather play something else as opposed to doing a stupidly long grind. Since you need over 7000 doubloons to buy out both black markets, basic math shows that even right now on the 1st drop if reaper chests still sold for 63 doubloons at grade 5, you would still need over 100 of them to buy out both black markets, which again, are going to have more added to them multiple times. Out of all games, SoT does not need to have MORE grind added to it when you have individual comms that you can only get from doing 270 reaper voyages or 100 veils for by sailing 10,000 miles, or for getting 350 of a voyage that spawns entirely based on multiple levels of RNG.

They don't want to change a lot of the comms to "respect the people who put in that time" but fail to realise that the number of players who just stop playing because of how daunting the grinds are is harming the longevity of their game. New players don't want to spend 400 hours sailing back and forth.

  • @quitespace1450

The game has way more to offer than just doubloons. Wdym?
