Making a treasure map for others to find would be so much fun if only they didn't disappear when the server closes. Instead the map information should be stored independently of the servers and be offered on the board until someone completes it.
Make treasure maps from the quest board server independent!
@burnbacon I don't think I see a problem with either outcome. Getting rid of them is probably better; If someone takes a map and doesn't finish it, it's probably a troll map...
I don't think this is realistically possible when you consider the number of maps that could be available across a region stamp. For one thing, you'd have to restrict the number of maps someone could give to the board but even that wouldn't reduce the number all that much.
You'd also have to create a method of distributing maps to different servers or would each server have the ability to see the same map? If they can, you need to come up with some protection to make sure two different crews on two different servers aren't able to pick and use the same map, otherwise you create a very easy way to duplicate loot across servers.
It's a huge headache that isn't worth the trouble IMO.
I think it would be reasonable to implement a system where servers are given a random batch of player maps when starting up/running out of maps. It could prioritize the oldest player maps first, with maps that are taken but not completed more than a few times thrown out to reduce troll maps sticking around. I agree that it's a smaller feature, but I think it is one of the little ones that could make the seas feel much more alive if given the investment.
