Netflix One Piece x Sea of Thieves

  • I am once again posting my copium/hopium for Rare to do a collaboration with Netflix One Piece, to add some cosmetics to the game. Even if it's just a Going Merry Ship set, I'd be so happy.

With One Piece's ever growing worldwide popularity, and the live action show just dropping Season 2 yesterday, it'd be so cool to see a collaboration! Now yeah, I know there's still a high chance it won't happen, but a pirate can dream! I would buy everything, without hesitation lol.

    Dream scenario:

    • Going Merry ship set
    • Straw Hat crew costumes/clothing
    • Weapons themed from the show; Zoro's sword(s) cutlass, Mr. 5's pistol, etc.
    • Straw Hat cosmetic

Please Rare? :D I'll never ask for literally anything else.

  • I hope not...it takes away from the major story and confuses people who dont know what One Piece is or cares about.
It not like Pirates of the Caribbean, which has bigger influence. Also being Netflix, its a monthly hype which dies off quicker.

  • @burnbacon Eh if it's just a cosmetic crossover I don't see an issue - we got Halo/Gears of War, etc and those have nothing to do with piracy at all. Don't disagree that a tall tale wouldn't work probably. But One Piece at this point is arguably more of a cultural phenomenon worldwide - it just surpassed Superman as the highest selling series of all time.

I just want some straw hat sails :(

  • @Valor-Omega Yeeeaaah... but halo and gears of war are fellow Xbox games. Take big bucks for non-xboxfamily theme crossovers. Besides, there is a HUGE difference between a normal pirate game and creepy anime.....

  • @snugplayer18335 Right, but that doesn't make seeing futuristic themes in a fantasy pirate game any less jarring/odd. The argument was that One Piece cosmetics wouldn't fit, when they 100% would.

As far as xbox family crossovers, Netflix One Piece already did an official collaboration with Microsoft to do a One Piece series X, so I don't think it's out of the realm of complete impossibility.

If you don't like One Piece, that's fair. But I can't say I agree/see how it's "creepy" lol.

  • @Valor-Omega Yeah that makes sense. That's perfectly fair. I do think anime is very creepy though. could just be me...

  • I'm not a big One Piece anime fan but I did enjoy the first season of the Netflix live adaptation. I'm sure I'll get a month of it again at some point to watch the new season as well.

As for a crossover with Sea of Thieves, I think Rare would love to do it (it's been heavily requested over the years) but it takes two to tango and it's going to depend on if Eiichiro Oda wants it to happen as well. I believe he has last say over adaptions and creative control, so wouldn't be Netflix doing the deal.

I do think all the cosmetics you mentioned could work though.

  • I truly hope that there will be some sort of One Piece collab one day too!

  • @burnbacon i promise you One Piece has way more pull than pirates of the Caribbean, certainly infinitely more pull than Monkey Island. I doubt it happens but it would be amazingly healthy for the game and actually bring new players to the game unlike Monkey Island. They can make it fit into the story, continuity never matter that much anyways.

  • rare is broke. hence the need to fire half their staff and cancel their upcoming game. thats why this upcoming update is focused on allowing newer players farm old cosmetics while pushing away older players. the need frest meat in the emporium. it certainly doesnt help they gave away so many ancient coins for free so a lot of us can just buy what we want without having to give rare more money. thats 3 different currencies, 1 tied to real money transactions. and all of them mismanaged like crazy.

the way rare is handling this game i dont even think luffys overwhelming spirit and optimism would be able to hold up. no joy boys here

  • If there has to be another collaboration I'd rather see characters from the Treasure Island or Peter Pan that are classics of literature. Let's not forget that Long John Silver and Hook are the basis of pirate fantasy!

  • It would depend on Oda.

One Piece is a very popular anime/ manga so a crossover between SoT and OP could work out very well and maybe even bring in new players, but again Oda has the final say to if he would allow Rare to use his copyright and in what ways.

Oda does have a question corner for the manga called SBS and you can find the mailing address to it, but Oda only communicates in Japanese and still you would need a lot of luck for your letter to get picked out of the rest of the fan sent mail. If you do send a letter the best thing to do would be to ask Oda if he has ever played the online pirate game Sea of Thieves.

  • @littletex1220 Very familiar with the SBS, that's a good idea honestly!

As for the potential for a cosmetic crossover, I think it's more possible with the Netflix live action series, than the anime, for sure, especially with how popular it is. That and the fact Microslop has already done a collaboration with OPLA to do a limited Series X.

It's probably all copium/hopium, but I'd love a Going Merry ship set if nothing else.

  • @valor-omega We never know, all we can do is hope for the best. If Rare wants more people to play SoT then they should definitely get in touch with Microsoft and see if they can get in touch with the OPLA team and Oda.

  • @littletex1220 Praying for this lol

  • Iam playing a pirate game cz i like one piace , one piace is why iam playing sot, and i hope one day to see a collab onepiace x sot, i dont care if is not the same type of think or make more confusion, but i hope i could see a collab.

  • As much as I do love One Piece the swordplay here is not to the level where I could justify picking up any of Zoro's swords. It would be supremely wack if you gave me Wado Ichimonji and didn't even change the sword lunge animation to Lion's Song, hahah.

The love for Sea of Thieves has to be there before they try to show they love anything else imo

  • Any influx to gold shop would be nice. And honestly esthetic of Netflix adaption is nothing far from emporium or gold shop items.
