Skeleton Ship Overhaul

  • Hello again everyone,

    I believe skeleton ships have something lone overdue, an update.

    1. Arsenal:

    Skeleton Ships, from my perspective at least, have a lot of potential. Firstly, we need to update their arsenal. Now, I am not saying give them chainshots; what I am saying however is allow them access to scattershots. Using code that is likely already in place, the skeletons can detect if a ship is close enough and change their ammo to a scatter shot. Secondly, we need to make sure these ships are balanced, so for roaming skeleton ships, this will be the only arsenal change. For other skeleton ships, (fleets and perhaps voyage related ones (more about that on 2.)) they will have access to bone callers.

    2. Voyage:

    Skeleton Ships should have a voyage related to them; I believe this is wasted potential. Firstly, a hunting voyage would be favourable here, it would give the players a bounty, showing the ship and perhaps the name of the captain, and tell the player where they were last seen. Secondly, a bigger variant of this voyage would be a fleet hunting quest. Think the Ghost fleets, you can fight mini variants of the world event; this could be applied to skeleton ships. Same thing as the first quest, but you hunt a small fleet, might be two Sloops or one Sloop and Galleon, might scale with crew size or perhaps variants of the voyage would have bigger fleets. In terms of the faction, I think it would be order of souls.

    EXAMPLE: A bony ship was spotted in The Shores of Plenty near Mermaid's Hideaway captained by the menace Three Sheets Neate.

    The Skeleton Ship itself would roam around the island, this would make it an exciting voyage because you'd first have to A. hunt your target. B. fight it. Whether it being a Sloop or Galleon would be random.

    3. Loot:

    Skeleton Ships seem to either carry, A. Lowly barnacled loot, or B. Smuggler loot. Here's my preprosed change. Skeleton ships spawned from smuggler voyages should have smuggler loot, roaming ones should have barnacled loot and some more high tier loot too!

    4. AI:

    Skeleton Ship AI is good! But it does need some modifications, firstly, make it slightly more competent at fighting. Think the Burning Blade, that ship has death spiralled me before, give the skeleton ships somewhat of a similar AI, but make it balanced.

    In conclusion, I believe Skeleton Ships need an update

  • I wouldn't mind at all, having Skeleton Ships have a bit more juice to them. However, I only agree with that, if the Skelly Ships themselves have the same weaknesses as Player ships. They should be able to be de-masted, anchored, and all the other things that players have to deal with.

    I feel this would not only help out players get more comfortable in naval combat, but also be able to consistently practice their skills in more low-risk situations for the "Real Content" being PvP.

  • @xdreegan Yes! And the skeletons should be able to repair their mast too, otherwise theres an inbalance where you could easily sink them!

    Be difficult since they tend to roam the seas willing with little paths to follow, and if another ship finds its before you...its gone.

    idk...Ive noticed players complain they get attacked by them Too often, even when they are "Far away"

  • @burnbacon Fair play, but this could all be fixed, perhaps have it so that it spawns when you're in proximity or something. Arsenal can be balanced. Attack range can be fixed easily.

    Rare has no issue rolling back stuff, so.... what's your point?

    Ancient Megs have no problem spawning and patrolling a small area. No reason why a skelly ship can't, especially if it's tied to a voyage.

    Spawn frequency doesn't have anything to do with competency.

    Smuggler ships have both smuggler loot and other loot

  • @lem0n-curry It should be still seperated, I believe at least.
