Ally Flag isn't Enough - Give us an option to Swear Fealty

  • In response to the many complaints that us casual players are constantly hounded and demoralized by griefers (more than just pure fairplay pirates), why not give us an option to avoid having our ships sunk by immediately pledging fealty to the invaders. Allow us to run to a spot on our ship, separate from the ally flag - which depends on reciprocity, something griefers are incapable of - and immediately pledge our treasures to the invaders. They can recoup 100% of the value even if we sell (so they have no incentive to steal it) and for our act we will only receive a discount, but at least our work towards commendations won't be in vain.

Call it the Flag of Fealty, and make it hung from the rear of our ship in lieu of an emissary.

I too love this game, but it's so demoralizing to have a session ruined by someone actively seeking to ruin someone's fun.

  • Or.... just accept that the game you have chosen to play is one where the fundamental design decided by the developers is an environment that can contain both pvp and pve.
Risk vs reward, you want to remove the risk go to safer seas.

  • Pirates being pirates = griefers.

    Sigh….

  • Play Safer Seas then. High Seas is all about the sandbox, while Safer Seas gives you the opportunity take your time and enjoy your session.

Pirates who want to sink you are not doing it for the loot. tbh. They want the PvP and the kills. Loot is just cherry on top for them.

I get the frustration....I REALLY do. I was very frustrated in the beginning too. But in reality, the way things are set up now - it's the best option for all. You can't have No Risk + High Rewards. Be happy with No Risk + Rewards. Seriously, be happy in Safer Seas for a while, then when you have to go to High Seas for the High Seas-only commendations, you'll appreciate the increased challenge.

  • When the player count inevitably dwindles, and people wonder why the base isn't growing, it'll be because of so many experiences of new players who wanted to graduate out of Safer Seas but found the alternative entirely unpleasant and unplayable. If you're a reaper and want to board someone, and they end up working for you, what's the harm in that?

  • So, after you raised that flag for a crew, when another crew approaches you and want the loot ... what happens then ?

Most likely they sink you, take the loot leaving both you and the crew you raised the flag to both with nothing.

I think most crews won't take that risk and despite you raising the flag will sink you and take the loot.

Also, remember people denying other crews loot by running into the red sea ? What's to stop people from just NOT turning in the loot, giving it to someone else or waiting until the other crew leaving the server &c.

Besides this being a silly way of circumventing the chance of losing the loot, it won't work.

  • @queequeg3283 Listen man the point of pvp is interacting with other players. I feel confident saying as a "greifers" (someone who steals from other pirates) that my goal is never really the gold or coms. Those are fun added bonuses but there are easier, more efficient ways to acquire those things. What we really care about is competition with other players, or just getting ourselves involved in the unique player interaction that this game allows for. I doubt a flag of fealty would work for players like me, and it certainly wouldn't work for people who are just actively ragebaiting. I will admit though, flag of fealty is a tough name and they should really use it for some other feature.

  • Sounds like you bought the wrong game. Safer Seas is your friend and if you’re willing to pay money for it, Safer Seas fleets next year (if the schedule holds).

  • @queequeg3283 said in Ally Flag isn't Enough - Give us an option to Swear Fealty:

I'm gonna be honest, I genuinely stopped reading after that.

The point of an Alliance in Sea of Thieves is that you're not 100% sure if they're going to betray you, or if they're going to remain your ally. Unlike many other games, there is no safe area on the high seas, and there is no guarantee other players are your friend.

Private Servers with no progression are coming soon just for this particular request. Riskless High Seas progression goes against the design of the game that the developers have intentionally created.

    Otherwise?
Welcome to the Sea, Pirate. Sometimes it's sink or be sunk, be cunning or be tricked.

  • @queequeg3283 I promise you the population would dwindle a lot more extremely if they hard coded safety into the game.

Yes the game isn't massively welcoming to new players with no form of matchmaking. But I reckon as many griefers as there are out there, there's also experienced pirates who on finding out people are genuinely new will choose to help them instead. It's just human nature that the bad experiences stand out more in your memory.

Choice is important, if people are genuinely toxic ie abusing you whilst sinking, bucketing to delay your sink etc then report them. That isn't okay. I will sink anyone but its not personal, and depending on how people handle it I.e maturely offer gg etc I might offer alliance after or even give back the loot.

  • @queequeg3283 is still sink you

Just being honest. It’s like the people throwing loot over then sprinting to lower the flag….. I’m going to sink you out of purpose at this point.

I play to be a pirate most of the time. That means taking what’s yours. I could care less about the “value” as I own most of what’s in the game.

Not everyone is out for loot nor is everyone out for value but rather a fight and to watch your ship disappear below the waves.

    I don’t want fealty
