I was fishing and halfway through catching a fish I wanted to catch, the game server merged me, but it cancelled my fishing rod and I fell off my boat as I was holding down WASD while fighting the fish. Can the server merge happen after the fish is reeled in?

Yeah let them just tell that other ship not to leave until you’ve finished up gathering all your stuff.

Yeah let them just tell that other ship not to leave until you’ve finished up gathering all your stuff.
If you're getting a notice of a server merger it's your ship being sent to the other server.
Fortunately, now the game remembers that you still have loot to get from sunken ships from other servers sometimes the server merger would happen right after you finished the event so you would lose your prize.

If you're getting a notice of a server merger it's your ship being sent to the other server.
Yeah because there’s nobody else on the server.

What I meant is you won't notice someone else joining your server.
You only notice the server merger if you're leaving your server the other ship would never notice or need to notice that you joined.And honestly, if you're in the middle of fishing the game could add a delay between you finish fishing that fish and then merging you.
