Season 17

  • It would be cool to have an upcoming season based on enhancing Adventure PVP and HG.
    The HG improvements are so many I won't even start on this thread, but basically Rare overhauling HG and making the numerous changes the community have been asking for would be awesome.

    For adventure pvp I have a few ideas to add for the season.
    *Ship grapple clamps-new tool that is added to ships. Only works on same ship types. Example, if a galleon rams or pulls up next to an enemy galleon, they can activate the grapple clamp (either having it on the side of the ship, on the grapple gun, or a throwable with one end attached to the ship. Open to suggestions) that locks the ships together. The enemy can destroy the grapple clamp by attacking the clamp. Sloop is 200 dmg, brig 450 dmg, galleon 700 dmg. The grapple would be a great way for ships to lock onto each other and give crews a chance to board and fight, without their ships veering away from each other. If a ship is grappled, the cannons on the sides of the ship that are locked do not work, until they are separated.

    *PVP Man-O-War world event. (We should have rotating PVE and PVP world events coinciding at the same time. The Man-O-War would be one of a few PVP world events.)
    Man-O-War rises up out of the water and begins sailing around the map. Ship is not crewed, cannot be manned, has no cannons, and cannot be damaged. Is as large as the Burning Blade but has a lot more access points for different decks and fighting platforms on the yardarms. Players that board the ship fight each other with hand weapons. No throwables will work or cause dmg to players on the ship. This event will have a 1 hour time limit. No one wins or loses or gets points. This is to promote PVP in hopefully a healthy way for fun.
    Commendations can be super simple with X amount of kills with specific weapons to also promote trying out different weapons on the ship. Simply participating in the event by getting 1 kill will count and a comm can exist to participate in 30 Man-O-War events for a possible jacket or some reward. Again, no one wins or loses anything or gains gold, this event should just be for people wanting to PVP on an unsinkable ship without having to do any naval. Players that die on the ship will go not go to the ferry but instead have the option to click respawn or leave event. If they click to respawn, they will after 10-15 seconds. Players who do not want to sail to the Man-O-War in order to board it can go to 5 different portals scattered across the map. 1 will be at Sea Dogs Tavern and the other 4 will be randomly located on islands marked on the map kind of like how Flameheart skelly camps are. When players or crews go through the portal, a bell will ring on the Man-O-War notifying the players onboard that others will be spawning in shortly. Numerous food barrels will be scattered around the ship filled with only pineapples.

    I have a few more ideas for a PVP centric season, but don't want to overcrowd this thread so I'll stop here.

  • Just being honest here, usually if I'm fighting other crews on their ship, it's usually for something, be it their treasure, their flag (if I'm reaper), or to secure the sink for HG rep. If there's a huge ship sailing around with the sole purpose of fighting other players while "no one wins or loses or gets points. This is to promote pvp in hopefully a healthy way for fun," why can't anyone just sail up to another ship and invite that crew for a fun TDM match?

  • Dream PvP seasons:
    Revert Blunder spread change
    Add an Arena 3.0 that is actually maintained
    Bring back quickswap and fish launch and make them official features with actual mechanics
    Add more modes to HG like a timed point based mode or a capture an objective based mode
    Update and improve SoSS and BB by adding actual PvE elements, quality rewards, and more than one way to play with them
    Add an official tdm mode and official tdm support for single crews
    Update HG mechanics to actually encourage champion battles and defending

    I think y'all get the point.

  • @fysics3037 Have you tried other games?

    What you are wishing for is another game.

    • Arena is done.
    • Blunder is in the process of being balanced
    • Quick swap is an exploit and was rightly removed (or at least repeatedly attempted to be...if you are still trying to bypass something that has been patched...you are exploiting)
    • There are no modes anymore, there is Adventure. Safer Seas or High Seas, it is all the same thing.
    • Skull of Siren song I agree might need more incentive.
    • There are a million and one games that have a TDM mode, Sea of Thieves is not one of them, same reason why it is also not a Battle Royale. (also back to no modes anymore)
    • Hourglass also probably need some incentive as the rewards from 0-100 don't make me want to play it.

    So....why do we need a huge ship sailing around eating up ping and framerates and probably causing lag when it gives players nothing ("no one wins or loses or gets points," as you say)? To quote a mod here, "There are a million and one games that have a TDM mode, Sea of Thieves is not one of them."

  • @look-behind-you yeah that's why I'm gonna make one, specifically to actually give SoT some competition. People shouldn't be forced to play SoT for this kind of experience. Because frankly, SoT isn't a well done game. Mechanically it's genius, but in whole, nah.

    If you can make your own game that fits the bill, hats off to you and good luck. It is well beyond my expertise.

  • @look-behind-you I do miss the arena because it wasn't just combat and it wasn't as grueling to do as hourglass because there was so much variety between rounds since it was basically micro SoT (until the 2.0 update). Hourglass does need improvement to go through as well. It levels up too slowly and doesn't hook new players like the Arena did. Arena allowed you to still progress fine if you lost, and make money in the process of getting better. Right now Hourglass discourages its main system of gaining streaks because it is all or nothing, and people will rather risk only getting to 2-3 levels before lowering to make a profit.

    I get why it got removed though since it was very intensive. But I do feel like Hourglass should change to do more of what Arena did right.

  • I still think than arena like voyage that send multipe crew for same treasures and force them to sell it in one place is doable and fun experience.

    Skull need sets, reps and stuff to be again point of intrest but we know how Rare treat and maintain once relesed content.

    Rod lounch and launch bugs are one of worst exploits out there. Skiping whole naval and. You should be in distance to get cannoballed to launch yourself and board, don't start with silent board exploit.

    Blunder change at least push some more weapons into seas, after 6 years it was stalle and with SoT servers quite random experience with one shot.

    Most of my pvp frustration come from poor state of game itself.

    These would def be nice. I don't see Rare doing any of this since they no longer like PVP, but I think it would bring a lot of players back.

  • I was just trying to advocate for a place players could go and swing there swords around and shoot a bit without having to worry about their ships. Hence why I mentioned people respawn on the Man-O-War until they opt to leave. A majority of the regulars on these threads are always so fast explain why they don't like an idea rather than meaningfully add to an idea. It's crazy.

    You don't need to create a huge ship that roams the seas that has portals and all these complicated additions where players earn nothing TDMing each other, when you can simply TDM thru natural pvp that takes place in the game (friendly, or non-friendly). It doesn't make sense for me to add to your idea, when there's a much simpler solution. "Why can't we have this grandiose place where players can go to in order to practice pvp and nothing will happen to their ships and nothing gets earned and it'll take development and time to create and...." "Why can't we just practice pvp by doing actual pvp, friendly or not?" *crickets "Crazy how no one will add to my idea."
