Ranked System for Hourglass

  • Ranking system for HG. Hourglass has brought a lot of competitive players to love this game, but after obtaining almost all of the cosmetics it has grown dull to a lot of the players. Having a new emissary ledger specifically for PVP HG and separated from turning in loot would be awesome. The ranking system could be based off your win/lose ratio plus turning in high win streaks could boost your ranking. Turning in high win streaks to increase your rank would promote players to keep going in HG instead of turning in after just a few wins. The current emissary system ties together hourglass and turning in loot via PvE. This system is also pretty easy to hit the top rank for rewards in just a few sessions. If a new emissary was made specifically for Hourglass, combining both factions and was much more restrictive for the top ranks (maybe top 500 players for the highest tier). Then players would be pushed to play a lot more to achieve that goal. Also attaching rewards (titles, cosmetics, etc) based on what rank you ended up in by the end of each season would push players to achieve the top rank for pride and rewards each season. There would need to be some barrier to entry for the leaderboard to avoid cheaters from taking it over. I believe you already have to be a pirate legend to do HG, but also needing at least 20 wins or so before being able to be on the ranked emissary leaderboard could further help prevent cheaters. Almost every big franchise game has some sort of ranked system in place and I think Sea of Thieves would greatly benefit from a ranked system by allowing players to push themselves to reach the top each season.

  • I would love if it somehow facilite defense mode, like value of defend loot in that way we have much more alive servers and nice HG ledger.

I think that tricky part is to blok it against cheaters couse eny rank/win restriction cloud be fastly overstep by them.

  • Considering that they already keep track of our wins (and therefore, I would assume our losses as well), it's utterly baffling that they don't have some sort of a ranking system for the matchmaking that draws on this. Or for that matter, even bothering to use the rep level for matching hourglass players against each other (which, while less effective, is still FAR better than the current winstreak model they use now). It's very strange because Rare is quite literally staffed by Microsoft, who has many other pvp titles under their belt, all of which figured this out decades ago.

  • @felix-ashur I'm pretty sure they do have a ranked system but HG doesn't have the number of players required to see the effects of it on most fights, basically if they did make it so u only fight people your lv most people would queue for hours.

Then, just sail the open sea and openly sink ships. :P

So fix the current Hourglass or rather whole game before hand.

Sadly, SoT isn't a franchise nor is it a comp game and I rather it stay out of that zone of things. Many great games that turn to Comp have to adjust many systems and how things work in the whole game just the please the very completive players.

Why sail the open seas when there is literally a competitive game mode made for pvp? If you enjoy sailing the open sea's for hours looking for one fight then more power to you bud :P

Getting rid of all cheaters is like solving cancer, its not going to happen. For any game. So saying fix hourglass (which I'm assuming you're talking about cheaters) will never happen because no game can completely get rid of cheaters.. Its a never ending battle between devs and cheat devs, but there are ways to put barriers to make it harder for cheaters to infiltrate ranking systems

SoT is one of the biggest games from Xbox Studios, arguably the biggest. Why is there an hourglass pvp mode if this game isnt competitive? Just because you like to sail around catching chickens for merchants doesnt mean this game is solely PvE. This is a game that supports PvE people like you and PvP like me equally. Rare has all the systems already in place for this ranking system to work. There is a competitive pvp mode in the game and there is a emissary ranking system. All they would have to do is make a new Emissary ledger tuned specifically to the pvp battles that take place in Hourglass. Ultimately, I believe in my opinion that SoT would greatly benefit from a ranking system just like countless other games have in the past. Also remember this is purely a suggestion post for Rare.

  • @hurtwillcam10
You know? I could honestly believe that. Especially with how small the population for that mode has become now.

  • @BurnBacon
By definition Hourglass is competitive in nature.
True competition existed, fact proven by the SoC and NAL Sails they once gave out to, wait for it, this may blow your mind... Sea of Thieves COMPETITIVE Players. So people claiming SoT (Like you in your previous posts) was never a comp game are just mis-informed or doing your best to bury it and lie. The focus of the game was never competitive, but it did foster it as a playstyle, '''Tools not rules'' and whatever gimmicks they say...

Do they really and genuinely have 'all the systems ready in place for a ranking system', No, no they do not.
A ranking system ALSO requires a, well, ranking system /MMR based off an example the Chess Elo that a lot of competitive games use.
SoT UNFORTUNATELY doesn't have the player numbers in Hourglass to make this worthwhile. It claims to have a some sort of ranking system, but that is quickly ignored by players who have played HG since day 1 seeing wild discrepancies in opponents faced.
NAL winners would face against other Comp teams, just for the very next match to be faced against Open crew, when there was another Competitive ship with high MMR on THE SAME STAMP waiting in Queue...

Also keeping it real and not dreaming about the future of SoT, they have teased what's in store for the future season and it's nothing to do with what is being said.

Reality is SoT comp doesn't exist anymore, all the competitions have died off this year, and I don't count one off's such as sink races or fleet wars as competitive SoT as it's mostly clout driven and have weird mods with power trips in charge of them.
AND even those have lost a LOT of players interest in viewership at least.
All the genuine cracked players/crews left the competitive side of the game last year and the remaning ones this year, and who ever is left are just kidding themselves in thinking it's still a thing.
    How's LoT btw? Point proven...
