Please remove all non-PvP specific restrictions from Safer Seas

  • Safer Seas is one of the best features you've added to the game, and yet it's restrictions make it almost worthless to use. 30% payouts, locked reputation, missing loot, and blocked commendations are an insult to those who can't or don't want to PvP.

I'm not asking for you to suddenly make Hourglass or Reaper rewards available via PvE, I'm simply asking for PvE rewards to be available in full in Safer Seas. PvE gameplay like delivering crates of bone dust which has no PvP related commendation or prerequisite, is just missing on Safer Seas, for example.

Sea of Thieves as a whole game should be accessible to everyone, not just those who are of able body and mind. Rare said it themselves, Safer Seas is a great place to play with your family, so why punish people for using this service? Not everyone can keep up with fast paced PvP, not everyone can spend their whole game session on high alert, and not everyone wants to risk being told to kill themselves every time they encounter someone with a mic. Why treat disabled people and families looking to play a fun pirate game like we're not worth it?

Those of us who aren't physically or mentally able to join in PvP as readily as the rest should not be punished for our limitations.

Please, unlock money, comms, and reputations not directly tied to PvP actions in the game.

  • @tesiccl Most people play this game for the pvp. SS won't kill it. If you think disabled people shouldn't be allowed to play one of the few good pirate games out there, you're a cruel person. There's not exactly a lot of options.

  • The best option was to split player progression entirely between the two modes.

Disable the use of emissary flags on safer seas yes but do not restrict or cap earning reputation for any company including Reaper’s Bones.

Remember all progression in safer seas stays in safer seas and does not carry over to high seas.

Do not restrict the use of captaincy, any voyages, world events or special event bonuses in safer seas other than hourglass.

A simple and elegant solution where safer seas players are not punished for not liking PvP yet they cannot earn emissary gold/reputation bonuses AND high seas progression MUST be earned in the high seas.

    Literally everyone is happy.

  • There is a reason for the limitations:

    1. Sot at its core is a pvevp/pvpve game and any reward has an opposing risk, the bigger the risk the bigger the reward.

The biggest risk is player hostility and thus removing that removes most of the risk and thus most of the reward.

    1. Safer seas servers are at least 6 times as expensive to run because they only contain 1 crew.
The same server infrastructure is spun up for each crew that normally can hold up to 6 and thus it wouldn’t make business sense to further incentivise the use of safer seas.

Also, the devs have been clear, this is safer seas. Take it or leave it.

  • How in hell safer seas are punshiment for enything?

  • A new mode was created as a tutorial or a chill place to hang out once in a while. You aren't being punished when you use it........but you also aren't really playing the whole game either.

It's not about people who are disabled. It's about the design of the game. It's a pvpve game.

If you are just a pvper you are not the intended audience.
If you are just a pveer you are not thr intended audience.

  • The game design and intent for Sea of Thieves is a shared world adventure, and it always will be. Those who wish to play in the confines of Safer Seas will always have the option but we will not bring the rewards and activities in line with those of High Seas when many of the restrictions are in place due to the risk vs reward factor that is inherent in Sea of Thieves - removing any risk means rewards must be balanced accordingly.

Safer Seas will act not only as a safe space for our Tall Tale players but also for families with children who just want to pirate, for people who want to play the game but learn the ropes and it will organically feed into Adventure mode, keeping the player pool there healthy and upskilled as they've learned the mechanics.

This is not only useful for new players but also families and players with accessibility needs - the whole game suddenly becomes available in a way it hasn't before, letting them naturally progress to High Seas and become a Pirate Legend. SoT has grown a huge amount in 5 years and it can be fairly overwhelming.

The borders put in Safer Seas mean that to experience the full depth and breadth of the game you will have to hit the high seas BUT if you're playing with your family you don't have to, you can just enjoy the game and have fun as a family.
