  • Looks like your texture quality is on Cursed or your GPU doesn't load the textures. Does this happen all the time or randomly at times?

  • I suffer for same sometimes seasion lodad properly sometimes i need to wait few s to unblurry stuff for whole sesion.

  • You don't mention your CPU. The CPU is going to impact how quickly assets are loaded in and out of memory. As such, even with a good GPU with a lot of VRAM, you can easily get bottlenecked in SOT by the CPU.

If your CPU is decent enough though, and has a lot of cores (8 or more), try enabling Multicore Rendering and see if that helps - but if the game becomes unstable, turn it off again.

If you have textures on Mythical, you could also try lowering them to Legendary, so the CPU doesn't have to work so hard to swap out texture LODs.

EDIT: It's also worth mentioning that the speed of the install drive is going to make a big difference as well. A good SSD is recommended.

  • @itz-majman more like 99.99% of the time sense last patch

  • @realstyli its intel 11800h gen 11 it runs red dead 2 redm great

  • @RealStyli its double the specs

  • @thedefender4311

Gonna throw some things that might help even if they sound dumb:

    1. Install the game on an SSD if possible.
    2. Check Nvidia/AMD drivers are up to date.
    3. Check Windows updates.
    4. Verify game files
    5. If none above work, uninstall & re-install the game and make sure you delete all temp files that tends to get left behind in SteamApps.
  • @itz-majman i have 1tb ssd build in and nvidia and windows are to update

  • @thedefender4311 said in why game so blurry:

Okay, yeah, that's on par more or less with my old Ryzen 7 3800xt, so you shouldn't have major issues with throughput. I would look at adjusting settings (Multicore Rendering/setting textures to Legendary) and installing on a different drive to see if that makes any difference.

  • @realstyli i dont have a dif ssd

  • @realstyli i would say its sea of thieves problem didnt had this problem before the patch this week and all other games work right even old game like sims 2 and 3 that like 2009 and 2004 old

  • @realstyli its still better then current gen it runs ray tracing and fps 144 there current gen like series x and ps5 still can only run fps 60

  • @thedefender4311

The game was updated to GDK and DX12 only recently, so it's possibly there are still going to be a few teething problems while they continue to improve it.

You could also try running the game under DX11, if you're not already, to see if that's better in your case. DX12 performs better in my experience (more consistent/higher framerates), but it may differ per machine which is better.

  • @realstyl my pc also maybe 4 years old but so is ps5 and xbox series x then then i got my pc it was double the price of current gen

  • @itz-majman new nvidia update drive update today out now 552.44

  • still blur after todays patch

  • Ok, so....

In most modern games today textures are streamed, as they are in SoT (Unreal Engine). But also in most of todays Unity games as well. This system is to allow games to have high resolution good looking textures without depleting your VRAM, as those get constantly loaded and unloaded.

In most cases with texture streaming blurriness, the reason for this is lack of GPU VRAM, so when you run out of VRAM, your system needs to rely either on RAM or Paging File (Virtual Memory) of your storage (depending on how the game was designed) - which are naturally slower because now your CPU + RAM/Disk have to push what GPU can't manage to keep up with. For that reason, textures are loaded in super low resolution (not fully loaded) and are naturally because of that - blurry.

With that said, game resolution (you didn't mention this as well), in-game effects, shadows, and textures themselves all eat up GPU VRAM.

So, check your VRAM/GPU usage in task manager when you encounter blurry textures. If you're getting near the ceiling of usage (90%+), you should consider lowering any of the above mentioned.

If you're not pushing your GPU to these limits, then there actually might be something off with the game. But even then, I'd still run clean install of GPU drivers (google up DDU software), not just re-install, in case some registry entries for your GPU got bugged (as those stay in the system, even when you uninstall drivers).

Also, try switching between DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 mods in the video settings, as RealStyli suggested. I personally still find DX 11 better working on my system, less random stutters and a bit more smoother camera movement (though it is more taxing on the CPU than DX 12, which is more taxing on the GPU).

  • Given there are a few people reporting similar issues in the troubleshooting section, I'm going to guess that it is indeed an issue with Sea of Thieves right now.

    https://www.seaofthieves.com/community/forums/topic/168979/blurry-textures-and-items-not-loading-in-inventory/1

It may only be affecting certain configurations though, hard to tell as folks don't list their specs. My suggestion for anyone with similar issues is to just file a report and give as much information to Support as possible regarding your system specs.
