Sword balancing

  • I played some Sea of thieves today and got spawn killed by an sword user, in my opinion the sword is way to strong. You can not move after first hit and have no health, i strugel with this issiu scinse a while now. I heard that you employers want to make the hittracking more accurate, when you do that anyways then u can nerf the sword aswell it does not make funn to fight if someone uses a sword. All of the people i play with are saying that aswell. The comunity would be verry gradefull if you balance the sword so you can actually stand an chance against it while fighting. At least try to nerf it in pvp for pve it is good but in pvp anyone would not stay an chance. And a sidefact your anticheat does not work if you look up youtube you can find enough videos how to bypass the anticheat. So as i said the sword is ruining the funn while playing I do not get mad if i sink normal but when there is an enemy on my ship with an sword and he managed to kill me and my mate solo with no skill, then its not ballanced. I Really like to play Sea of Thieves but sword is way to strong. So me personal and the comunity would be verry gratefull if u nerf the sword and get some balancing in the game. If you look up my screenshot you will see that one hit of sword does 25 damage and if the enemy hits first one they hit the next 2 aswell so it does more damage then an eye of reach. Thank you.   • To be honest wish they would do away with double gunning. That's way to powerful and always has been. Looking forward to seeing how the new weapons play out on balancing pretty sure I will be a sword and dagger guy.

  • For certain players, the sword sucks. Lack of range, but for the average playerbase its strong in boat/boarded combat. Been like this for a while. Used to be stagger after 3rd hit and 5 hits to kill i think. Now its stagger on every hit, and 4 hits to kill. Think they wanted to combat boarders. This change was from 2020.

    It seems like they didnt wants low rank players to suffer from too much boarding with successful running past ladder or something. Dont think sword is op really either way. Niche strength.

    You say the same about blunderBuss if it were so. Not the sword. At least with a sword vs sword, you can BLOCK.

    Hardly, I hear the same word for word argument against Blunderbuss being OP and so on.

  • @burnbacon like u see if u fight blunderbust aginst blunderbust u can still disengage but if u get hit by an sword u basicly freez and cant do anything about it i just wanted to say that this ability on sword should be gone so you can still disengage. If u know what im trying to say? basicly the damage is okay but that u freez is kinda sucks in my opinion...

  • @wujuwarrior1375 u see that with enough training everyone can lern tdm so i lernd it too i wasnt born with this ability and if u are new u shouldnt play hg because it is an pvp gamemode u should get used to the game i tried to say that thy should nerf it in hg but thank you for your opinion

  • @cannytwocrows only if u are good at tdm otherwise not see u miss an bullet and u have to reload like 3 seconds but sword u get like an 90% hit possibility because the swing can hit me evan if they dont see me... and then the freez is way to op if they hit and trust me they will u cant do anything about it and it does more damage then an eye of reach

  • @maskedwolf3906 you can be mediocre double gunner and still own the fight. One eye of reach takes a considerable chunk of health and one blunderbuss with a few pellets takes ya down. Now it's on you if a sword user gets in close. But even from my experience sword slashing doesn't stop reloading and stunning is only on if they get to you.

  • The sword is literally the weakest weapon in the game right now with the lowest damage and shortest range, and you absolutely can move after a first hit, but if you really struggle with it, after the third hit in their combo, jump through them and they will struggle to follow where you went.

    There are ways to deal with a sword user, especially if all they are doing is spamming the basic swing and not using creative lunges. You just have to find different ways to move since their intent is to just walk in a strait line at you which is extremely predictable.

    Your sentences lack break ups. Its a bit difficult to know what you mean at any moment in text. Are you norwegian by any chance?

    From what i understand you mean the guns reload while the sword is instant and does not require you to wait, hence it is difficult to counter it while learning the guns? As a result you want to nerf it for certain intances, so the flow of weapons in for example hourglass are easier for newer practicing players?

  • Switch to sword and use the block. I'm often having to switch from double gun to sword and blunder on the sloop if a sword spamer gets on board

  • @maskedwolf3906 well I don't fully agree... It makes sense that a close range weapon in close quarters does better then the long range weapons. It's easier to double gun on gallons and brigs because you have more room to manoeuvre over and create distance, on the sloop you can't do that and going below deck is usually a death sentence if you're not using the sword

    Use the different tools available in the situations that suit them, don't pigeon hole yourself to a certain load out for all situations

  • “I got killed by someone using the weapon, therefore it is op.” A classic.

    Sword is balanced. It takes 4 hits to kill someone with it, and by that time you could easily blunderbuss the sword user and instakill them.

    Learn how to counter it, instead of going onto the forums and saying how op it is. It really isn’t.

  • As a person who changes their load out constantly based off of the players I am fighting:

    You can also use the sword.

    The sword has this amazing feature called "Blocking" where you can parry other sword swings. Works really well, and it has gotten more reliable in the most recent pass.

    When I double gun, I need to be very mindful of what the other players are doing, because if I miss a blunder shot and they are aware of my positioning, I can easily get trapped and slashed to death... but that was because I missed my shot.

    But I do agree that some re-balancing needs to be done. I say have the blunderbus fire 12 pellets, to make one shotting a bit more reliable, but also have knock-back for the shooter. (Would be cool if you could Blunderbuss Jump if you angle yourself right). However, it is not to "Nerf the sword" but to balance the rest of the items... though with two new weapons coming into play in 9 days, I am sure there will be a lot of conversation on how they shake up the meta.
