Dive to a Server containing Friends/Guilds

  • This game has been out for 6 years, the memories are amazing and I am sure a lot of you can agree that this game is far superior when you have friends to play with. Not to mention even more superior when you successfully get all your friends onto the same server with some weird server hopping voodoo tricks.

I suggest a big change!!! The Diving mechanic, Go to the table, vote to join a server of a Friends or Guilds. Epic music starts playing and time to get wet. Loading into the new server, your friends hear amazing epic music "OH its Captain Bill and his crew! Look guys!" rumbling from beneath the waves and rising from the depths in an explosion of foam and water Your friends appear with a massive cue of cool music to finish the sequence.

Yes... I know... I can hear all those individuals crying like seagul's nesting! "But it will be unbalanced!", "We will have entire servers against us." QUIT your wining! This is where Rare do their thing to make it either limited to only 1 other ship or something else. Look... if you are going to complain that the game will be ruined. Hate to tell you this but you are wrong.... because this server with other friends malarkey has been a thing since launch unofficially and it hasn't "broken" the game. Also they said that adding private servers would kill the game (I agreed with them) but yet now we have private servers for streamers and we now also have safer seas which goes against EVERYTHING that sea of thieves was envisioned to be! and I am so sorry to spit in your grog more but there are a lot of other areas of the game that need fixing and balancing more than simply having your friends on the same server.

I am surprised how this isn't already a feature.. Sea Of Thieves is built with friendship and unique encounters in mind, there are guilds and alliances and shared experiences to prove this. So Please Rare... Do what must be done, its been a long time coming!

  • I don't like this idea, it's too isolating and safe. Why are we so obsessed with mitigating danger and strictly hanging out with friends and never taking risks or meeting new people? It's just a game, and if you figure out a way to manage your own anxiety, I bet all of the allure of the idea of private friend/guild servers is going to magically and suddenly disappear.

I do however like the idea of diving to your own private customizable guild island where you pick and choose the island, the water color, the weather, the lighting and atmosphere, which assets you want and where. I would love to build my own ominous and dark ghostly sea fort for my guild to have meetings before going back out to the high seas. I love all things FOTD/Ferryman/Athena/Pirates Life because I'm obsessed with the glowy green aesthetic for some reason.

Even the idea of a guild island sounds too isolated for me, as much as I'd love to build one. I would really want the ability to open it up to the public and have like 100 random pirates hanging out and doing their thing.

The Custom servers for partners are AFAIK without earnable gold.

I don't see a problem for custom servers as long as there won't be any gold; they need to figure out if the "owner" of the server has any rights of removing crews or players, and if so, which - and how to make iot so it won't be abused.

Multiple crews of one guild or other group purposefully on one server with 3 or 4 other crews without such help: this will ruin the game. Go back and read all the other topics on this for reasons why, if you can't see that for yourself.

Safer Seas and Guild Crews on one server would have nothing in common, so I don't see why you would make this jump.

  • Look... if you are going to complain

Complaining about players complaining or frankly, complaining about unable to do something. Little low thing to do.

  • I have a strong feeling they will do something like this if/when they add Guild Strongholds to the game.

I would love the ability for a Guild to "Claim" a Sea Fortress by raising its flag, then allowing that to be their Ship Spawn point, and allow 1 additional ship from their guild to be able to come to the server.

To add some PVP aspect to it, have the Guild Stronghold hold a "Tribute" item in the vault, that increases in value along with the treasure and guild rep they ships get. Anyone can turn in this Tribute Item to any faction of their choosing.

On the guild ships, there will be a Key, similar to the Map Bundle on the Quest Table. Anyone on that crew can just grab the key, take it to the vault and open it to collect the tribute item to sell.

Like the Map Bundle, if the ship sinks, it will rise to the surface to be collected by the assailing crew... or can be lifted after using it for 10 seconds, which would let the other crew collect that tribute. (Unlike an emissary flag, the tribute/fortress wouldn't be able to be "Voted down" immediately, and would have a time limit (30 min) before it would reset to be a standard fort.

Anyways... I think it would be a cool concept to add to the game, give an actual legit way to sail with a fellow guild ship, but also make them a valuable target for other crews.

  • @reverend-toast that sounds like a pretty cool idea, I'd enjoy taking other guilds tributes 😈

  • @reverend-toast I think you'd probably have to limit it tho, to maybe two guild forts a server (separate guilds, not two forts per guild) so you could have some kind of guild war and still allow other crews to get on the server.

  • @reverend-toast you could also implement a treasure stash grade like defending in hg, by putting any loot you acquired in the vault giving other players more of an insensitive to try get the key. I feel you should make a post about this idea fully fleshed out 😂

  • I like how you say quit whining, and yet your whole post is whining about wanting this broken mechanic.

  • @hiradc

How is having two or even three crews of friends on one server any more broken than having just as big alliance groups on single server?

An organic alliance is still fairly balanced cuz you'll almost always have one crew that's willing to double cross the other crew. The imbalance in what you're asking for is it's coordinated and every crews working towards the same goal for they're guild, so that's just as broken as alliance servers which rare have said they don't like

  • I would vote no on this idea simply due to your toxic op
