Guilds and Buried Treasure!

  • A way to revitalize the map boards and another guild benefit.

(I haven't watched the video yet btw)

Guild member turns in a map at the map board. The Guild gets access to it across servers. Rules still apply to buried treasures but there would need to be a change where they could somehow show on multiple servers. Would be willing to sacrifice whatever it is we get when someone digs up your stuff if a Guildie digs it up on a different server.

Don't know if this could even be done on a technical level.

Anyway. Let me share maps further.

  • @pithyrumble The fact that 99% of the maps now are just game generated since they are server specific is pretty sad. Not sure why they implemented such a poorly designed system. I imagine when it was first added people found a bunch of actual player maps but the fact it doesn't upload to a data base that all servers can pull from.

It is weird the whole concept of a guild in most games is large groups of friends playing together while SoT guilds is just a new shared progression path like captaincy 2.0 where you are in a group friends list together but you are all still out playing alone. The name of the update implies full support for what PvE discords already do but the reality is it's just work together but separately... Weird concept.

  • Makes total sense and would refresh the map system!

  • It's interesting

I'd have to go down the rabbit hole in my mind to really think about all the effects

On the surface it is interesting and I think has potential for some cool scenarios to play out, some convenience to it.

To me this sort of thing is more interesting than the shared milestone farming that was announced.

  • My only concern is this becomes a way of trading loot, even possibly transferring loot from a guild ship on one server, to guild Alliance on another server.

There would need to be some controls.

But I do agree there is room for improvement on the Quest board.

  • @pithyrumble I've seen the guild video though feel like they haven't explained it nearly enough. As for your idea of sharing your buried treasure between the guild, that seems easily exploited. One person could need X amount of a certain treasure type towards an accommodation so other member of the guild, in their own servers, grind for said treasure, bury it and then inform the player going after the accommodation that they have stored the map.

I loved the idea of burying our treasure but never understood the concept of then posting the treasure maps on quest boards for all to see, personally, I always thought buried treasure maps should be stored in your captained ships, that way you can bury loot in one session and dig it up in a later session, any session you are in however, the treasure map could be stolen from your table and dug up by enemies (as is the case now)

Potentially. It's just a hipshot idea like yours. Welcome to point out issues about my many daft ideas.

  • @pithyrumble does asking to have all your pets out at once count as one of those daft ideas? ;)

    No. That one's completely sane.

    meow XD

That was really the only "issue" as hypothetical as it was, I saw with it. I will wait to see what guilds actually have instore before I comment too much on them as like I said, I watched the video but still am unclear as to their utility and functionality, initially I thought it basically meant server alliance but think its meant to be done across multiple servers.

Personally, i wish they just burned the quest boards altogether and gave the feature back to the gold hoarders since they are the X marks the spot faction lol

  • @pugwash9586

I've played longer and paid more than I want to admit.

Been there, done that. Do something new.

Things are back on the table.

  • @pithyrumble oh same here, though I'm proud to say I haven't wasted too much money on Ancient coins.

I by no means want to remove features but just think that the current buried treasure feature fits the gold hoarders much better. Even if it's a skull that is buried.

If I had the final say, I would change quest boards into the place in which I put the voyages from messages in a bottle I do not want, storing them quests away is a great feature which I use all the time to tidy up my radial but if I could then sell them on when I reach the outpost it'd certainly be nice too.
Though I understand that its too late now and I'm just lamenting at missed opportunities.

  • It could remove loot other players are trying to get rather easily; certainly if you tell your guildmates beforehand where you'll bury it.

  • There would need to be some controls and limits put on it, but what you're pointing out....is kinda a point of a guild. To enrich your buddies. Say I got a fellow guildie who is looking for barnacles. Burying and posting the map would be little different from me inviting them to my crew for turn in.

As a split- if you belong to multiple guilds...heh... it could get interesting.

I would say that current map board mechanics stay in place too. They vanish when you leave if no one picks them up. No rep if it's not retrieved. No gold received. The rest of the server can come take it first too.

" oh hey... there's a guild ship. Imma go check that map board and see if they're boosting their guild " and shenanigans

  • This is an awesome idea.

  • Thank goodness someone is still thinking about the Map Board. Most overlooked feature with potential in SoT.

Because one parrot cannot pull a sled with a ship on it.
