The obsidian eye of reach

  • Right so as of recently the obsidian eye of reach was given away for free with Xbox game pass perks. Previously only available through a limited giveaway that took many people hundreds of hours to earn. I think that a good fix for this would be to have a small engraving on the eye of reach for the people who earned it through the six pack and put much more time into it. Maybe like the grogmanay tankard or something new entirely, just a small difference to celebrate the people who spent many hours earning it originally.

  • @wingzs3776 only cosmetics earned ingame should remain exclusive. Not items gained through outside means.

It was part of a promotion, like all Obsidian/Onyx/Midnight/Ebon/Black Dog set items. There's no reason to hold it in any high regard.

I'm one of the minority that completed that set a long time ago and, at no point, did I consider it "earned" - there are plenty more sets in the game that actually require effort to unlock.

I won the six pack three times, more than any other, so I'd consider it the easiest to have won. Just don't expect to win giveaways on big streams.

  • This topic is cringe.

If Rare decide to make some cosmetic exclusive (special) then it's what it is. But asking Rare to recognize your opinion that you and your cosmetic is special and should be different to others is just pure cringe.

  • It is what it is really, can't change it now unfortunately so...

Just in the future, even if they say "time-limited" and "exclusive" in the future, don't just take it for granted, because it might really just mean "in a couple of years". That's all :)

This is why this stuff shouldn't have ever been a part of the environment.

Getting mass amounts of people to jump through hoops over and over so some of them can achieve "status" through some cosmetic is highly destructive design.

It creates more misuse of power in content creation, worsens power imbalances, doesn't do anything positive for the overall community

That system serves very very few people overall.

Drops/gamepass perks/purchase in game/earn in game. These are the cleanest ways to handle cosmetics

    • this is coming from someone that had the sniper/capstan for a long time and has other rare giveaway items
  • @zig-zag-ltu mainly because it's not got a progression system other than cosmetics I feel that there is nothing to reward players other than "rare" cosmetics

  • I also feel It relates back to the whole "personalised gold curse" if you spend so long trying to unlock something you do want it to be unique and special as there is nothing other than cosmetics to set you apart from anybody else. I also understand that many people don't feel the same way and that's perfectly fine but it was more of a realisation to me that nothing is going to be "rare" forever.

  • This sort of elitist attitude is exactly why Rare do not brand their cosmetics differently depending on the way you earned them.

Yes your black and green EoR was “exclusive” at a time, but now it’s not. Get over it.

  • @wingzs3776 LOL, cringe dude. It's just the obsidian eor. before it was the streamer giveaway, they gave them away like hotcakes on mixer/twitch.

  • It was never deemed an exclusive, and it is not free. Free would imply you have to do nothing for it, it is included in game pass which is a paid service, thus not free. You dont need something that says you got the item before something changed, because when you got it wont matter to people who see that you got it from a give away, the only people that will think its special are people who want to flaunt that they have "the special version", not the people who are listening to some one flaunt. Having some chance rng on a partners stream pick your name does not count as effort or something earned, because well, rng is not exactly special.

No one is owed any dues just for getting something through a free give away. If something expressly stated to be exclusive like the good boy ship or the ferryman jacket, and they brought that back, then sure, there would be reason to be upset, but not something never said to be exclusive.

  • Alright I think I see it differently now that it wasn't specifically stated as exclusive. Thank you all for feedback and I'd just like to clarify that the only reason this was said was because I felt as though I earned it and since everything is cosmetic based, I like rare things like everybody else, anyways thanks for the feedback and have a good day everybody.

Tell that to csgo players lol

Here is the difference, with cs, people have to actually spend money before they can do their rng, its not just some free participation entry you get for just watching a stream, so the more rare something is to drop from a crate, the more money some one had to spend to get it, thus it has actual real world value.
