I really like how you can opt in for Champion ship battles for hourglass if you're a smaller ship. However I do think there should be an incentive to do them rather than just a bigger challenge. I do think there should be more of a boost in Rep and Hourglass gold ofr winning if you vote for a bigger ship.

It’s not a Champion Ship battle. A smaller ship needs to be a champion ship to fight a bigger ship but the ship you may fight isn’t guaranteed to be a champion ship. I have set sail on a fresh gallon with no streak and found a sloop on my first attempt.

They're called Champion Ship Battles because once a Sloop/Brig have achieved the champion status they obtain the option to vote for a champion battle. This gives you boats a size or two larger than your current ship.

They don’t offer better allegiance for winning those fights? Pretty sure they do.
Unfortunately, you don’t get better allegiance if you fight a bigger ship than your own. If you manage to take down a champion ship your hourglass value will increase by 20,000 gold regardless of what streak you are currently on. In short, if you are lucky enough to sink a champion ship on a 0 streak, you will get 20,000 instead of 10,000.
Basically, voting for a larger ship battle is an unnecessary risk that gives you absolutely nothing. It gives your opponent a chance to sink a champion ship but you get nothing.
@imdinonuggie They may call it a Champion Ship Faction Battle but it’s only because your ship is a champion ship taking on a bigger ship. The enemy ship itself isn’t a guaranteed Champion Ship.
@coffeelight5545 well that’s redundant then. I get folks might want a bigger challenge but surely they should be rewarded for it equally. That’s silly.
@coffeelight5545 and the smaller boat winning the fight should get a rep boost. You are opting in for a more difficult fight therefor the reward is higher.
The point of this option was for people who felt like they needed a bigger challenge, not for increased rewards. People who are just amazing at PvP and find same ship battles to be boring are the intended audience for this feature.
So it’s the glory here that is the reward. Definitely not meant for your average player.
agreed, 1.5x for brigantines, 2x for galleons.
But what i think they REALLY need to do, is make it Two separate button presses for normal matchmaking or larger ships, instead of just two prompts,
because I've had streaks ended MULTIPLE TIMES in the past 15 days because i keep mis-clicking the vote to fight larger ships option.
