What will happen with the next Adventure? (Adventure and possible Tall Tales Spoilers ahead!)

  • Little disclaimer: this post purpose is to talk about the lore and speculate about its future, if you want to give feedback about this first adventure please make another thread :)

LAST SPOILER DISCLAIMER: if you haven't played PotC Tall Tales nor the Adventure released today and you dont want story spoilers leave this post right now.

Here we are guys! I've completed this first Adventure and I'm already thinking of what will happen. So, it seems like the veil is getting thinner around certain islands which seems to be the work of Flameheart and his son, the Servant of the flame. But what are they up to? They are summoning masked phantoms, either memories of the old Flameheart's underlings or of other pirates whose will has been bent by Flameheart or his son.
I think what's happening in the short term is easy to predict, we now know that Flameheart wants to summon something from the Sea of the Damned, by the name of the second adventure and the fact that we know Sea forts are coming with season 6, it's easy to do 1+1 and understand that he's trying to summon the Forts themselves., my question is the purpose, is he preparing for the final attack? is he just trying to get more control in preparation of something or does he want to protect something with these forts? I guess we'll need to wait.

We also discovered that reaper's pets are spies, interesting.

One more thing I want to discuss here is: what about the phantoms pointing to the big lanterns on shipwreck bay? is it just a gameplay thing or is there someone working for flameheart that wants to help us? a spy, perhaps?
I also really want to understand what Wanda is doing right now, after PotC TT 4 I'm still not sure if she truly openly betrayed flameheart, if she is a flameheart spy spying on the dark brethren (I kinda feel like the love Wanda had for Flameheart was more like an obsession, I didn't expect her to betray him even if she meant nothing to him), or maybe Flameheart still doesn't know about her betrayal and she is spying on him, working for the brethren. Could it be that she left some hints for us?

One last thing, what choice do you think we'll make with the climax adventure in Season 6? I think it's to soon to try to predict that, but I'm already curious where this is going. Personally I think we'll have to chose to side with either Flameheart or Athena, but the consequences of this choice will remain hard to predict for now.

What do you guys think? :)

  • Why attack Golden Sands outpost first? Why thinner the veil around Crescent Isle, Shipwrecks Bay and Devil's Ridge?

I think this is an interesting question to which I currently have no answers.

  • Personally, i think the reason they thinned the veils around the islands was to make it easier for flameheart to drag the seaforts through. The veil has been torn in all the major areas rn after all. (I don't count the devil's roar as a major area.)

The reason i think he did this is the reason people build forts in the first place, to take a defensive position and control an area. I don't think he had the time or the resources to build forts normally, after all, would people really sit back while he did that?

Flameheart has definitely been on a recruitment drive and the phantoms are how he plans to fight pirates that can keep coming back from the ferry. After all, you can't permanently kill a memory either.

As far as the choice i think we'll make at the climax... i think it will be whether to support flameheart and the Reaper's bones or Ramsey and Athena's Fortune. War is obviously on the horizon and the "Tides are turning" in flamehearts favor currently. It makes sense that we'd pick sides eventually imo.

Hopefully we'll see Ramsey finally do something other than make me give up that hoard of gold at tribute peak. D:

  • I've seen a lot of people on YouTube predicting a 2 way war between Flameheart and the Pirate Lord. However, I think it would be more interesting as a 3 way war, say by adding in the Grand Maritime Union....

  • @mrat13 I also think we are kinda excluding The Captain too, choosing between The Captain and Flameheart feels actually more interesting thand choosing between Flameheart and Athena.

  • @pellahh The more the merrier ;)

All we know is the veil is thinning, and maybe that also includes the shroud. Anything is possible.

As long as there's a third option where I can give 'em both the brush off and just go rogue.

  • I actually didn't even think there could be a third option ahah. It's interesting to think that, but I doubt there will be one, I mean... technically not engaging with the event can be interpreted as abstaining I guess?

(PS: Can't tag because the first part of the name won't let me send the message Hombre :/)

Don't all those islands have strong magic/ancient presence on them?

  • 5 way war.

    GMU
    Dark Bretheren
    Ramsy
    Reaper's
    Flameheart

All vying for control over the SoT for their own purposes.

  • I mean I don't want to shill a dying thread but...

I made my own speculation earlier today about this first adventure.

I believe this is Flameheart's doing, even with his massive step back in relevance and appearance.

  • Wait, that made me think about something. If Flameheart can brings the forts from the Sea of the Damned and make them less ghost like and more real. Whose to say he can’t do it to the burning blade? An entire island? Crews, or heck even himself!

Perhaps Flameheart’s end goal is to break the veil so much that he can get a physical form and take the fight head on personally since he’s just a giant spectral head at the moment. Plus we don’t know what the result will be if he does succeed, will he get new powers like let’s say a combination of Ashen Lord and Spectral abilities? That would make him pretty powerful.

Adding a reply cause I just thought of something else as well. The Sea of the Damned represents Memories right? But it doesn’t just mean Memories from the Sea of Thieves, with A Pirate’s Life it would mean ALL memories, regardless of where and when.

Considering the Sea forts might not be native to the Sea of Thieves or even its world in general, whose to say Flameheart can’t bring memories from other worlds or places outside of the Sea of Thieves, like the GMU for instance?

Maybe memories of enemies we fought in the past believed long gone, maybe even enemies from other worlds altogether. Heck, I wouldn’t be surprised if Flameheart manages to bring a dragon to the Sea of Thieves.

In fact I, like you, think he wants to build an army of stuff summoned from the Sea of the Damned and, at some point, get resurrected by his son.

But if I were to live in the Sea of the Damned I'd have one bigger fear, if he can truly bend the will of memories in the Sea of the Damned and we've seen animals there, some chickens, pigs and a mule during PotC TT; he could be able to summon the greatest weapon that ever lived in the Sea of Thieves back from the dead: the Old Mother. A creature that has been told to be so gigantic and strong that it took magical chains a a century of starvation to kill her, a creature capable of swarming the Sea of Thieves with Krakens again. Even tho I doubt Rare will make the story go this way, I think it's interesting to keep this in mind.

But it doesn’t just mean Memories from the Sea of Thieves, with A Pirate’s Life it would mean ALL memories, regardless of where and when.

Currently I'd agree with you on the "regardless of when" with a simple limitation about the future: the Sea of the Damned should contain memories of living stuff from all the past for sure but I'm still not sure if it's a completely out of time place which contain memories from the future too, so I'd exclude that for now.
About the "regardless of where" I have 2 theories:

    1. The Sea of the Damned contains the memories of whoever lived in Sea of Thieves' world, this would imply that the PotC universe stuff happened sometime before the current Sea of Thieves events. Which can't be true as it's clearly stated that Jack got to the Sea of Thieves world thanks to an artifact (can't recall the name, but the the little glowing cage-like thing he has)
Or what I most likely believe in
    2. When we go to the Sea of the Damned, a fragment of us, an echo of our memories gets stuck there. Which means that Jack and all PotC characters who died in the Sea of Thieves and or somehow got the Sea of the Damned had fragments of their memories replicated there.

Basically, in more simple words: whoever enters the Sea of the Damned (any sentient and/or intelligent life form) leaves an echo of his memories.

    That's my take on it.

But I think there's one more limitation: it only contains the memories of who visited the Sea of the Damned AFTER it began to exist.
The Sea of the Damned might have always been there of course, but it begun to exist only at a certain point or was created by someone I think it wouldn't contain the memories of who existed before it's creation, as they wouldn't be able to enter it since it didn't exist.

  • @cpt-redmane Man, the idea of being able to choose Team Ramsey or Team Flameheart sounds awesome to me! Ramsey in his prime was highly regarded, and it's kind of a shame to see him being nothing more than a glorified quest giver lol.

I like your take on that and I think its the most logical one. Honestly I completely forgotten about the Old Mother altogether.
Anyways it does make me wonder what kind of memories the Sea of the Damned take when you enter there, is it just a small piece or does it take all of them? Plus one has to consider who else has been to the Sea of the Damned at some point, including those we don't know if they've been (e.g. the NPCS).

I believe Pendragon went there at some point so its entirely possible foes he battled might appear in our world as Phantoms, its possible some of those who are part of the trading companies have been there at some point as well so anyone whose been there will have there memories (whether its their time in the Sea of Thieves or the outer world), that small piece will appear in the SotD. So for all we know, the GMU could appear in the form of a memory.

  • I think Golden Sands is not an accident for a target by the damned.
Didn't Wanda used to have a shop there before making the cursed balls?

I already made a thread about the end game.
I think we will see more revealed in between before we see the main baddy which is LeChuck.

OOS and Wanda will go to war. Athena are ghostly and will side with Pendragon and go to war with the Reaper ghosts.
Repears hideout might be more interesting later as a result.

  • Maybe the Wilds or the Roar will be eventually be completely transformed into the Sea of The Damned versions… no idea really.

The thing I’m enjoying about Adventures is that story is being shown and conveyed through gameplay, rather than scouring for journals during Tall Tales. I think it’s a much stronger and more memorable approach to plot and continuity.

  • @mrat13 I agree with this, although I have my own theory. I believe that the GMU has been stockpiling and preparing for another full scale invasion since their first failed attempt. They have already managed to get their envoys (the pirate emporium shopkeeps) into our waters, and likely have been slowly gathering intel on us and our waters for a long time.

As for when they will likely invade, I believe it will happen after our climactic battle with Flameheart; what better time to invade an enemy than after their victory against another? We would be taken completely by the wayside, and likely not prepared for another full-scale invasion by a military force that's had years to prepare.
