Unable to use mic in game, about to go insane trying to get this fixed (play on PC)

  • Back in 2020 I was able to use my mic (not a headset) in game, but I decided to take a break from the game and came back recently seeing that I'm unable to use my mic anymore, all of my settings haven't changed. While in game I don't even see the chat indicator above my character anymore. I have contacted both Xbox and SoT support, both giving me the same answers. Which everything they have told me hasn't worked to solve the issue. The mic I'm using is a Yeti Microphone for streaming and other games which working perfectly for them just not S0T. It would be greatly appreciated if could get some help getting this issue resolved.

Here’s a link you might want to just check through. You might find something you haven’t tried yet.

That's like legitimately the only guide I've seen cover every instance of how to fix the SoT game chat sound.

It is one of those setting, yes.

  • I have tried all that as well, but thank you. As I mentioned above it's only happening with SoT my Mic is working perfectly with other games and programs on my PC.

  • I had the same problem that my mic did not work in SOT and every other game it did... i tried all solutions and nobody was able to help but maybe i can help you now. Do you happen to have a a VRheadset?

For me te problem was my oculus rift. For some reason sea of thieves took my oculus mic to speak in game instead of my headset even if i changed the settings in the xbox app to my normal headset.

The moment i disabled my oculus mic in the audio control panel (recording) tab it worked for me.

    Hopefully i could help

  • Make sure windows is updated, and that windows firewall is active. Xbox games sometimes don't allow the right NAT type unless everything is working perfectly. It could also be your teredo, which frankly, used to work for me as a good indicator of connectivity, but lately always shows blocked, despite my game and party chat working. Maybe I'm no longer using it, I read that it had to do with transitioning connection from IPv4 to IPv6, which is beyond my comfort zone with networking.

Otherwise, test another mic and see. My blue yeti works, so I doubt it is anything hardware related.

    Best of luck

  • The fact that you do not see that chat indicator icon might be caused by "pushed to talk" option and possibly "push-to-talk key" being unbind in mapping.

I am sure you've gone through all the setting from top to bottom and vice versa, but it might be worth to re-check those specifically and possibly even change the settings to make sure it is set correctly. I've seen some troubles with keys being auto-rebound after updates - this might be the case.
    P. S. push to talk mean key-down and hold (I've met some pirates who thought it is push-talk-push-stop-talking)

If you have a headset, try to actually disable the Yeti-mic and re-enable the headset and see if that helps - it might not be a permanent solution, but it could hint the possible rootcause of the issue.
