The Sunken Pearl Conundrum

  • Allow me to say, during the first Tall Tale of the Pirates Life season, my faith in PVE was renewed.
Then I got to the Sunken Pearl Tall Tale...
My faith was shattered, not because of bugs, but the refusal to create an instance of invulnerability.

Please understand that this is not an attack, but an attempt at reaching a peaceful solution.
These are the choices the Pirates are given on The Sunken Pearl:

    • Everyone abandons ship to enjoy the story leaving the ship open for attack or tampering.

    • Leave a crew member behind to be the boring lookout while everyone else enjoys the story.

    • It's a Pirate Game deal with it! (The Normal Excuse)

All I am saying is that the parts are already there, all you have to do is set an Area of Effect, that when entered and the Tall Tale is active, no other players can damage, or tamper with the ship.

    • Treasure on the ship should still be vulnerable.
    • Cannons should be in peace mode.
    • Supplies should not be accessible.
    • ETC... (I am sure these effects exist somewhere in the game already... Right?)

Once the tall tale is completed the Effects are gone and the game continues as normal.
Balancing will take some time, but it's not impossible.

As a Pirate Legend and a big fan of Sea Of Thieves, please understand that I love PVP as much as the next hungry pirate.
However, with all the updates there are more than enough opportunities for PVP, and even with the Pirates Life update, still not much incentive to play the Tall Tales.
Maybe it's finally time to improve the Quality of Life of All the Tall Tales Gameplay.

    Thank you all for reading,
See you out on the Seas

  • Typically I'm a pve/pvp absolutist and still am up to the point of these new tall tales

they simply brought in a new way of doing things without changing the foundation of the game. Those of us pve/pvpers still have everything we ever had before and now there is a new (and temporary) thing to experience that is less intense but it ended up being odd because it bounces back and forth between safe and not safe and I don't like inconsistency.

Let people be left alone during these tales. Safe for one not safe for another isn't something that leads to the best experience of well put together content telling a story.

old tale tales should remain as they have always been and the new ones should offer a consistent experience and since being left alone has been incorporated into chunks of it and I think it should be worked out to offer it for the entire thing

The tales are a essentially a movie where you get to touch stuff and figure out puzzles. Let people go through that experience with as little interruptions as possible from other people

Then they can come back to the chaos after that

  • I've done that tall tale like 4 times now because people couldnt be on or missing journals and stuff. I think the only time I saw another ship in the area was launch week. Same with the coral castle one and the final one. The problem of running into other people during the new tall tales seems way overblown. I'm not saying it doesnt happen ever, I just dont think it happens to the extent that it requires spending development resources to create a solution to such a minor problem.

  • I never had a issue being sunk. I have had issues with people running through portals with grade 5 emissaries lately. I get they can't bring loot but as a pvp player who will do the pve. This needs to be fixed a flag is loot. Either make it so the flag is left behind or make a legit option to leave server if you choose with flag.

  • The way I see it, if you’re doing that tale you just don’t worry about the ship. As long as you’re not hoarding loot it’s not necessarily a problem if your ship dies or not. Especially if you’re doing the tales in chronological order you’ll be in the Sea of the Damned in no time!

the frequency is always exaggerated online but this isn't a voyage or something else in the shared world this is a huge deal brought in specifically to appeal to a crowd looking for less intense storytelling and that desire is justified because of the instancing included

People can do these things as many times as they want but that first time is the impression that sticks.

Prior to this update less intense pirates had no peg leg to stand on. Shared world pve/pvp and that is that but this new update changed that for this specific content.

as far as resources go a lot of the times I'm stingy about them being used with my opinions but for major content where I don't think it offers a consistent experience I'm more open to it

I doubt it'll be tinkered with much at this stage but I do think the people that came in specifically for that content deserve a consistent experience through development and not just relying on luck of the server

This, and it goes for any tales really. You take a fresh spawned ship and go straight to the tale, there is usually unlimited supplies there anyways so no need for loot or supplies and you will have your mind at peace knowing you aren't losing anything if anything should happen.

It seems like gone are the days where you needed to find certain objects and bring them somewhere else, the whole tale get settled at one spot, and old tales got checkpoints to compensate if you lost said items.

  • @poopymoses we had our brig sunk while doing the Sunken Pearl, so we just took their ship while they were doing the tale, sailed it to the outpost so we could sell the crying chest, set fire to it and sunk it. :D

  • Your freshly spawned ship got sank while you were doing the tall tale. Big WOW! Unless it wasn't freshly spawned, in which case it shouldn't have been left unattended.
