Let's be honest, it's embarrassing that the game has been out this long and has only received a SINGLE major map update. I know that the content that's been added has been important because the game launched in what was basically an alpha state but one of the reasons that the toxic PvP crews exist and are not interested in anything else is because they've been to all the islands a million times, explored every inch, and can recognize them from halfway across the map by eyesight. The game desperately needs new play spaces, something that even the most seasoned crews will have to spend some time familiarizing themselves with, thus encouraging them to do voyages and engage in PvE content again. And at this point that expansion should be very big, preferably almost doubling the size of the map. It would do more to calm the seas than any amount of instanced content or new types of voyages could ever do.
And along with that, the game desperately needs a wider variety of PvE content to engage with. The last actual update in that regard was adding the skeleton ships almost two years ago. Apparently the enemies from A Pirate's Life will be popping up in the main world which is a solid start but after three and a half years it just doesn't cut it. You can only go to an island and fight skeletons and then a skeleton captain so many times before the cabin fever sets in and PvP is the only option to add variety to the combat. Where's the giant crab? Where's an update to the way krakens fight or appear? Where's literally ANYTHING that fights in a different way than the AI enemies we currently have?
These both seem like such obvious things to add but there's been nothing in either regard for years, and whether anybody realizes it or not, it's absolutely part of what's dividing the community so heavily in terms of PvP vs PvE. The gameplay is so amazing and there's truly nothing like it, but the current PvE content is boring because it's just slight variations on all the same things that have been in the game since launch or just after. Give us something truly NEW to experience.
