So if we get a mid sized boat in cursed sails, can you guys change the player aspects per boat.
1-2 for sloops
3-4 for the mid sized
5-6 for galleons
That would give players a chance to play with more of their friends. I typically have 3 other people I play with, then a couple friends that we all want to play with but we can't since there is a 4 player cap or we get a random generated server. Only one occasion, where my normal group had a forth so I had to play on a sloop, I actually found them on the seas so I could play with them. But that was only once since release.
So if you guys change the player aspect when/if you put in a mid sized boat, I hink that's the way it should be.
If we get a mid sized boat...
I don't ever want to see crews above the content level of the game. 4 is a sweet spot imo right now. Rare has an interview on 4 being the sweet spot as well.
8 friends doesn't suddenly mean I deserve to queue with 8 friends. It'd be cool but caps have been part of games for forever and there is reason for that. Our discord just splits into even groups.
@gloog actually it will make sense to bump up the galleon if we do get the mid size, because what I have heard the mid will be 3 (not 2-3 just 3 is what i have heard in the rumor mill, not saying it is set but no conformation to say its not) players, if they set the mid to 3-4 and galleon to 5-6 there will be people more encouraged to use the mid. If the mid is 3 why would you use it? especially if you have more friends.
@sargentabtastic that's why I say when/if, it's a rumor and you can kinda guess it but it's not for sure yet.

I would use it for those times when only 2 of my friends are on. The inclusion of another ship doesn't change the dynamics of PvP. Everything is balanced around these numbers, from respawn times to ship sink times. The inclusion of a mid ground ship doesn't change this. It sucks having more friends than a game can accommodate, but it sucks even more to get consistently smashed by the people with more friends.
In response to "why not take the chance and change it", i believe they spent a damn long time testing these things and coming to the conclusions they did. Why take the chance of screwing up the balance? The benefit would likely be negligible compared to the potential damage. And I don't have the faith that they can split the playerbase with a test server to try it out.
@ladyszechuan Personally I don't know why, but I would guess because the games been in development for at least five years, and the people who created and coded it, probably have the balance that they want.
The program is more about exploring and getting treasure, occasionally fighting, not so much about grabbing treasure to level up so you can power game.
@drunkpunk138 even with more people on a galleon doesn't make it to where you smash others. My crew and I have pulled other people onto our ship and we still have been sunk, mainly because the extras have a white tag and we get confused, but we have still been sunk even though we have more people. With more people it's more fun in my opinion, we get more creative on how we do stuff. Like I said in my OP only once was I able to fund my friends on random gen and we sailed around having fun going o the islands. Even had a couple sloops come up and ask if I needed help taking out their galleon.

You contradicted yourself there, grabbing treasure is about leveling up, also it's mainly about getting the gold so you can get customizations that you want. The main goal of the game is to become a pirate legend, whether it is a slow journey, like I am taking, or going fast. Having the potential of more people on a galleon doesn't speed up the process. You would still take x amount of time sailing between the island to get the chest/skull/merchant items, you would still spend x amount of time finding those items and x amount of time turning it in, more people wouldn't make it different.
Also with the private settings for the ships you would still have the ability to sail with less people. On the sloop you can sail with 1 or 2, but the galleon you can sail between 1 and 4.@ladyszechuan No, there's no levelling up, and everything is cosmetic. You can get more dangerous and rewarding voyages, but that doesn't alter nor improve your character nor ship.
If your cutlass, canon or other weapons improved, and your ship moved faster, then that would play into your idea. But the experience, again, is about exploration.
A true pirate game wouldn't have you turning in chests or other items, but killing merchants and raiding ships for not just gold but basic necessities like food and spare parts. But this is cartoon idealization, not a simulator.

It has been confirmed by the developers during E3 this week. The new ship has 2 masts, and a max crew of 3. It's called a Brigantine.
They won't raise the number of people on a galleon because it would be too OP. Even 5 on a galleon is too many. You could have one person steering, 3 on cannons, and one more always below deck repairing. It'd be impossible to sink, and a sloop with one or two wouldn't stand a chance against a crew of 5 or more.
I would love to see the galleon at 6-8 players, it feels like a lot of work with four players on a galleon. Admittedly that may be because as much as I love my crew I find myself doing the lions share of the work more times than not.
Having the sloop at 1-3
A midsize ship with two sails having four cannons at 3-5
Granted on the flip side, I can understand how much harder that would be for solo play going against 8 and 5 man crews.
For me it’s hard, I would like to see bigger crews but can appreciate how hard that would be to balance.
As is I stand by my feelings of galleons should have a bigger crew slot, it will be interesting to see what the guys have planned
@ladyszechuan I suspect it's much more likely to keep the current system where you can select any of the three boats for either matchmaking or friends only, with the cap crew size being four.
I suspect this because they have said when you start having more than four crew mates they start to split off into small groups.@ladyszechuan More than 4 players on a galleon could break the balance and they could have a big advantage over the others. I'd like to have a bigger crew sometimes but I think it should be on a bigger and more complicated boat, perhaps a future Man o War who knows!
