  • How to prevent this scenario:

    1. You're on a sloop. Hide it in the shallows behind a big rock.
    2. Always, always, ALWAYS check the horizon, even from the island. The hills are high enough and you can see a ship coming from miles away.
    3. Don't fuss about grabbing consumables. Just bring your chest right back to your ship.
    4. When the player in the video noticed the big ship he should not have kept swimming towards his own ship. He should have dove under water, swam around that big rock and hid his chest in some thick bushes. Then scuttle his own ship, take the mermaid back out to it and come back for his hidden treasure when the other crew leaves.

I've had no issues playing solo whatsoever. You just have to be clever. Whenever I pull up to an island and I already have treasure on my ship, I stash it on the island somewhere so if my ship is spotted or sunk, I don't lose any of my loot while I'm away from my boat. I also check the horizon every chance I get to make sure no one is coming. If they are, I hop on my sloop and g**o. I've also sent my sloop sailing away without me just to throw off pursuing ships and then I scuttle it when they're far enough away.

  • Ahoy @short-bus-kable!

The game itself warns you that it is the most difficult way to play.
I hope the following tips will help you on your next voyage. You can also join any of the discord communities around here to not play alone.

  • I find the game pretty enjoyable even in solo play. It can be quite difficult to escape a persistent galleon, but the sloop is much more maneuverable and if you lure them into shallows or a rocky region (heck, even the hurricane) you will always have the advantage against a greedy crew of salty sea dogs..

  • Im so sad for you. My condolences.

  • This is why I anchor my ship as close to island as possible, you're leaving your ship highly vulnerable when it's that far in the ocean. It also would've helped to properly look out for any incoming ships. Also there was absolutely no point in trying to fight that, you should've just ran or tried to board their ship while they were on yours.

  • @prodigy-burns I decided to give the solo game a go before I launched into coop so that I didn't look like an idiot who didn't know what they were doing.. but so far I am loving solo pirating, outrunning galleons, sneaking onto islands to complete challenges then getting back to an island to complete a mission undetected.. Something quite majestic about skipping from map/wheel/sail/tack, scanning the horizon for 3 sails.. not sure i'll bother with a galleon just yet!

  • @tachyongray No doubt playing solo can be rewarding in its own right, but I still want the Galleon for the ship customization options and I think a 3-4 man would be useful for taking forts which I've yet to attempt.

Why on earth would you swim towards enemies while holding a chest. Just wait it out, hide the chest to collect later.

Yeah agree. The only chest you should be swimming with in this situation, is a gunpowder one.

  • some folks all ready made the comment about swimming towards the ship. i also want to point out being on the depending on the island if there are canons on that island use them. I play solo and hve never had a problem with Galleons, be tactical and aware.
i have sunk 4 Galleons solo never lost my treasure. Draw them into you park your sloop close to the island , check your horizon and always have a plan of attack and defense.

  • Haha--that Alt-F4 at the end was perfect. :D

  • Yeah.....that's pretty much the ENTIRE game.

Only thing missing is delivering your fetch.

  • Please change thread title to "Video of Sea of Thieves' Worst Solo Player Ever".

  • @lucid-stew , more like "This is 75% of the game."

I only had something like this happen the very first day I played. Especially on a simple voyage where you're just digging up a chest, a ship would not be able to get to you from beyond the horizon. Look at the laundry list of mistakes made:

    1. obviously didn't check horizon before debarking
    2. parked on the other frikin side of the island
    3. parked a mile off shore
    4. took 5 years to kill skeleton with a sword
    5. has chest but is messing around with bananas
    6. swims TOWARD enemy ship WITH chest
    7. stares at enemies while getting shot in the face

For me this represents 0% of the game because I would never do any of that. This scenario could have been amazing. Imagine if you had a gunpowder barrel sitting on deck. You see galleon roll up, hide your chest, and find some high ground. Break out Eye of Reach, blow up barrel and take out 2 of their crew and maybe damage their ship. Now you have an epic moment instead of swimming toward your doom like a dead fish.

  • @tachyongray Yep I agree with you, I think it's part of the fun when in solo. I have to do everything and always keep an eye out for danger, It's not just select location and sail away, I plan my approach to the island and before boarding the ship need to make sure that there are no sails in the horizon. When finishing or delivering whatever needs to be delivered head to the pug and get myself some grog ( and also a real beer for me ) to celebrate a successful voyage.

  • @short-bus-kable

See I dont understand this video. Because it says "Solo experience in 60 seconds or less". WHO's Solo experince? It certainly has not been mine.

Maybe you should not speak for everyone because you did nothing to prevent yourself from getting attacked. And we are not all like that. You just sat out in the water. Swam at them slowly with a chest, You might as well been screaming "PLEASE SHOOT ME AND TAKE MY STUFF... "

This is a serious and heartfelt L2P.

  • @lucid-stew , who's talking tactics?

We're talking overall gameplay experience, and this 60 second shot gives you at LEAST 75% of the total game.

  • @drayman86

If your dumb... Seriously The player in this video is not smart. And either has to adjust to survive in the game or continue on the dumb train to quitting the game.

Yeah...so much for Article 6 of The Code, eh?

"Duh, git gud" is growing OLD.

  • @short-bus-kable Yesterday playing solo I was on the island where the treasure was according to my map. Before even attempting to dig I scouted horizon for some time making sure that there were no ships coming. The island was large and I made sure that I dock my boat behind large rocks so it is not visible from far. Eventually, I had to wait for 10 min or so because there were sails on the horizon, one sloop and one galleon. Once the horizon was clear, I got my chest and made my way to the closest outpost. On the outpost approach I usually go up to the crow's nest and check if there are any ships docked. This time there was a sloop standing. I made a U-turn and wen to a different outpost.
The whole adventure was intense but fun.

  • @drayman86

Same to you... Because the code says we are to bond as a community as a like minded crew and you are the outlier of this. This video IS NOT the norm of this game it is not 75% it is like 10%. As seen by the LARGE ammount of people in this thread pushing back. AND we did respect the new player we shared GOOD information you are the one pooping on it all.

And it might be getting old but it is true, and true things dont care about your feelings or anything. They are fact. And the fact is the player in this video made poor choices. And if they make simple adjustments to their gameplay they will most likely have a different experince that is more in line with what MOST of the people in this thread are saying.

And the next time you wanna mouth off or bring up the code maybe pause and think about what is being said. Maybe it would wise if you looked at the situation from another view point, and maybe just for a moment consider someone else's position before acting out in a forum.

With no sailing, no ship combat, no boarding, no exploring, no skeleton forts, no kraken, no diving for treasure? At least be fair in your criticism. If you want to put a percentage on it, doing an island quest is maybe 10% of the game IF you choose to do them.

Sum total of game as currently played:

    1. Fetch.
    2. Cash in.
    3. Repeat.
    4. Occasionally battle a few skellies, and perhaps another player or 2.

And players wonder why folks get bored and start shooting everything than moves or floats.

  • I ran solo a few days ago. Ended up handing in 5 chests and 1 skull safely after going to 3 separate islands solving 4 riddles.

Check what side of the island you need to be closest too before getting there.
    Park closer to the shore.
Have the ship aimed to leave before you jump off the boat and preferably have the sails favourable for a quick get away.
Learn how to kill skeletons better.
Don't mess about picking up consumables.

I have over 50 hours in this game and I've spent maybe an hour doing the first 3. I am a "shoot anything that moves player", but I don't see why that doesn't count toward your "gameplay experience" total.

  • @short-bus-kable

Here at cooters school of pirating we teach players like yourself to capitalize on these situations.

You kind of swam to your death on that one. So if I was you I would have turned right back around as soon as I saw that ship. I would have hid my chest in the bushes. I then would have ran back to the powder keg you ran by then I would have swam under thier boat and released the powder keg. It will float up and hit them undernieth and make at least 4 holes. I would have then boarded them on the other side from your boat. I would have ran down stairs and killed anyone that tried to patch holes with a blunderbuss.

But today your in luck!! I have composed some skills to use to help you in these situations. There’s plenty more if you choose to attend one of my seminars are private schooling!

LOL - you just looked at them? Why didn't first run on the island and HIDE your chest so they didn't get it? Then go fight them! LOSE? who cares? Head back to the island and get your treasure you 'hidden'. WIN? Take theirs, and if they don't have any you at least have a much better video than what you just posted.

    BE MORE PIRATE.

  • @raggedynaphtali
    LOL!!!

  • @sergent-c****r

That is my experience with Gunpowder barrels!

  • @subaqueousreach You actually used creative thinking.. That's a huge difference I notice between people who have fun and who don't with SOT.

  • Today i was at an outpost, completing the mission where u have to bring 50 bananas to the merchant. I was getting back to my sloop when another one approached. I run away, hide the chest with the bananas and wait for the bold idiot to sink my sloop from an inch distance. After that, the bold idiot, now surely happier, go away and i delivered the chest. Money, exp, applause and a new free sloop for me. Be careful, though i have to say that the guys that killed you (my emphaty is all for u) had a true pirate behaviour: i think they stole your chest, isn't it? So, being a Sea of Thieves, u should be prepared for this.

  • @raggedynaphtali

I placed 5 powder kegs on different spots on my sloop and shot them with a sniper rifle it was pretty impressive I would upload the video if I knew how.
