PLAYER HOUSING AND GUILD HOUSING/MANORS!!

  • Hello everyone,

I wanted to share a (potentially) favorable idea for us all. That's player housing and guild manors.

So let me state right off, this idea I have is inspired heavily by one of Captain Falcore's youtube videos. His idea was solely for player housing. However, there are several areas I think that can be expanded and improved upon. I would add a link to his video, but I'm not sure if that's allowed here. . If you're curious about it please look up his video on player housing.

So basically player housing will have a decent sized house and a small dock to fit their ship(s). There would also be a shipwright and merchants to stock up supplies on before setting on a voyage. All players houses and guild manors would exist on a separate realm then the Sea of Thieves. Kind of like how the Maiden Voyage exists and when completed you can proceed to sail into the Sea of Thieves. However whilst on the island no one can mess with you or your crew.

How does this differ from any existing outpost already you may ask? No other pmayer can come by and sink you while you're setting up..

You'll also have extensive tools and areas to decorate your house with. Perhaps you can keep the heads of monsters/beasts as trophies for your wall, various plants and paintings, outfits to display, etc.. And perhaps there could be small fighting rings to turn on friendly fire to duel your friends with..

Each house would have a basic version/there you can buy with gold. However, for a bit more gold you can but pre-existing themes for every company. So gold hoarders houses (have a lot of treasure cosmetics), Reapers (maybe a lot of blades and skeleton butlers), etc.. perhaps the cost could be equivalent to buying ships.

Now guild houses however are much larger. They're basically like a small outpost with a large manor to house all your guild members. They will also have a base theme, or purchaseable themes from every company. There will be npcs you can talk to, sell unwanted items to, and to maybe "patrol" your island. Merchant npcs would look like royal navy soldiers, Reapers would look like skeltons/assasins, etc.. Perhaps there could even by small daily missions for guild manors to earn gold and doubloons if completed withing time and by enough players..

There would also be a large update with guilds themselves. You can now each donate money and resources to the guild treasury to help your guild buy guild houses and decor. There will be a guild exclusive shop that only guilds can access and buy cosmetics from, revitalizing the already stale state of guilds in game. There will even be ranks you can assign guild members, like Guild Captain, Quartermaster, Treasurer, Recruiter, War Marshall, Enovys, Diplomat, etc.. These will give guilds a bit more depth and life..

Idk, it might be a stupid idea.. But if anyone like it let me know! Maybe we can let Rare see this and boost the chances of getting this in game.

  • @ronanredbeard Why would we have a whole island where no one can come to sink us or anything? What would you even do on the island? This isn't the Sims...

  • @kianonboard maybe not necessarily an island but my thoughts are more along the lines of a large manner for guilds and Guild players to meet up, strategize, and collect resources together.

Basically a large manor to present trophies and achievements, someplace where individual players can donate resources like gold, doubloons, ancient coins, and even planks, cannonballs, and food.

A place where players logging in can stock up on supplies using guild resources rather than having to continuously buy supplies (as some players may not be able to afford that), and even donate extra resources at the end of the session.

Perhaps pvp could be enabled and rival ships from guilds could come in and attack. I was thinking against this for potential griefing issues, but it could actually add fun elements you're right..

Just saying an "island because if it's a big building with docks to house guild ships it might be large.

Just basically a place for guild to come together and unite and start out their session, and a place to call home.

Not tying to make it "Sims"-like at all.

  • @kianonboard Oh so basically strategize battle plans, battle each other, fish, show off trophies and commendations, log into sessions together, donate or take guild resources, asking better ranks like Quartermaster, Recruiter, Guild Treasurer, etc..

Things like that. Whilst having a place you all can decorate and call home after a long fun session together. Idk just some place to bring everyone together.

  • @ronanredbeard You can do all of this in adventure mode + you can decorate your ship after a fun long session

  • @kianonboard Yeah in a sense..

But 1. You need to constantly buy resources for sessions which adds up (especially if sessions are unprofitable)

    1. There is some sense of unity but not in the same sense or to the same extent as having an actual place of your own together. You can't show off heads of beasts you've taken down together or create pictures or painting of your favorite moments together.

    2. There is no guild treasury now. No one can donate anything to help the guild progress or help each other out..

    3. There would be special commendations, cosmetics, and even rewards for obtaining and setting up guild manors.

    4. If pvp were enabled here other guild ships could come in and steal things. Which would add a fun risky element which embodies the Sea of Thieves spirit. You could also defend the manor with cannons and all manners of traps on the island. It has a much different feel than just a ship.

Granted you make valid points, and again the idea might not be for everyone but it certainly has its own merits and reward

  • @ronanredbeard So we want a Clash of Clans collab!

  • @kianonboard No collabs. Just a place with certain perks and maybe activities for guilds.

I like the thought of logging in with your crew and using guild resources to startup a session whilst leaving and returning to a place you all chipped in to own. Idk, adds a sense of unity and a common goal. Also allows guilds to regroup and focus on goals together.

Revitalizes guild systems, adds new and interesting elements, and provides certain perks that normally loading up doesn't.

I don't expect everyone to love the idea, but it's something I believe at work (if implemented well of course..).

  • @ronanredbeard That would require too much resources for the game

  • @kianonboard I understand your point, and I greatly appreciate your perspective. I still believe it could work. If given the right amount of time and focus it could work.

It would build upon existing systems and features in the sandbox which is their new goal now. So I feel it aligns with their vision for the game.

Now granted you are absolutely right in the sense that in that it's not as simple as retexturing a Megalodon and adding that to the game. However I don't around it would be much different than adding any other update, as it'd probably take around the same amount of time and effort. However I'm gonna have a game developer so I'm not truly versed in that area..

Still though, I think it's viable option they would want to explore as it does enrich the game and build upon existing features which honestly are long overdue..

  • @kianonboard I guess what I'm trying to say is that I completely agree with you in the sense that it will take a fair amount of resources and effort to implement into the game. However I need to feel it would be nearly as bad as they adding an extension to the map with a cold region or anything like the Devil's Roar expansion. I feel like it would be simpler than that from a logistical perspective.

    Perhaps I'm wrong idk

  • We already have a nice empty building. The former arena place and instead of being ingame, it can be its own pocket area. So you still need to load into the game once you leave.

I would say they will offer this down the road. For a price. Purchase like your ships

  • @burnbacon Exactly! Now that's a great idea.

Yeah the pricing mechanism I had already imagined would be around the same ship system. So if they implemented the new Collective Guild resource System including money then as a guild you purchase one of those together.

And perhaps, just an idea, there would be a generic sea of Thieves base kind of manner or different themed manners after each of the trading companies, if you wanted that kind of thing.

But yeah adding that kind of area and kind of having a closed off would be a potentially solid idea. That has a good amount of potential and I do like that.

    Good thinking man.

  • @burnbacon Kind of like the Maiden's Voyage area for new players starting out. Yeah that was exactly along my line of thinking.

Yeah this wouldn't be something that would be immediately implemented it would take a lot of time and working out to do but if they are really planning on reworking and building upon existing systems within the sandbox that would be a great place to start as there's not really much content currently with the guilds sadly.

    Solid idea man.
