Stop giving me > 50k gold on on login and just increase reward sizes

  • Hi!
Quite new to the game but noticed that the rate for selling treasure generally feels so low.
Just completed our first vault and some of the chests sell for lik 500g. The whole thing maybe netted 25k but took an hour and having to run back and forth from the ship selling for 20 minutes to sell for small amounts gets tedious.

What makes these rates feel off is also that I randomly get a huge 70k when I log in, which takes like 2 hours to farm. When I the complete the vault, after finally figuring out the puzzle and then getting like 3k for the seemingly super valuable chest, it's just cringe.

    TLDR
--Increase the gold reward sizes for all treasure to make them more rewarding. Login gold bonuses just remove immersion. --

    Great game though.

  • @stelogdood once you get enough gold and you gain access to a captained ship on High Seas, you’ll unlock the ability to sell at the sovereigns tent. They take everything with no gold penalty and you’ll level up your factions as normal too! The rate of selling becomes much quicker and there’s a harpoon at the tower for convenience too!

Raising an emissary flag also increases the amount of gold earned too but you can only do this once you hit level 25 in each faction (not that hard to reach). Again, your gold earned will increase exponentially so it’s worth doing!

  • Yeah, quite a bit of treasure value doesn't make much sense these days.

The thing that always gets me are the gold pile values. Big ole piles o' gold giving a few hundred coins seems off to me. Especially when it's a big part of the voyage/content. The gold pile delay makes it seem kinda silly to me.

Personally I liked what they were trying to do with raid rewards but many were critical of it. I like less treasure with one piece being worth quite a bit more.

Something like the tribute chest def doesn't hold up in modern SoT with its value. It was a part of why the BB is so unappealing now.

The 70k (actually 77,777 gold) was because of SoT 7th anniversary : https://www.seaofthieves.com/anniversary

Lol wait did they change those?

Less treasure (that is worth more) means less stress on the server. Could've also added more gold piles/pouches (also worth more), since these are "consumed," which is presumably also less stress on the server.

  • You are new to the game, if you continue you will see that it is extremely easy to make a million gold in a day, what Rare really needs is to introduce new ways to spend money.

As @WolfManbush said, what really needs a value increase is the gold pile.

It really just didn't go anywhere (yet)

I was hoping they would bring a lot of the treasure down and increase value all around the sea.

Feedback about raids in the feedback areas is often that they are underwhelming as far as reward goes.

I think there should be less treasure overall, more value to the treasure, rework commendations as needed and then work in the gold and doubloon pouches for progress along the way.

That could help content like shrines because then people are being rewarded along the way so the risk of leaving the ship makes more sense.

Tall tales should have more gold/doubloon rewards along the way as people progress.

They can both stabilize the win conditions of treasure items/content while making it more rewarding for people to participate organically in the content.

Skelly camps as an example are good about the piece of loot but then the gold piles are just silly low for the risk of leaving the boat.

  • Look into skelly camps. 20k per orb. Takes about 5 minutes once you get used to doing the constellations.

I really feel that these kinds of low yield and very predictable activities could do with an element of RNG to shake things up. If you know exactly what you're going to get before you even dive to them, that's always going to make them underwhelming. Give a low chance at landing high tier loot and that would make them more exciting.

Unless they reverted it, the Burning Blade has a chance to spawn an Ashen Chest of Legends? Which I think is a great idea.

Same kind of thing with the Voyage of Luck. Getting a gilded one feels awesome, but even the one dig maps feel great when you get something high tier.

(and, yes, I agree that the gold piles are very silly in terms of how little you get)

  • Never heard someone get upset over free login gold.

I agree that the rng can work but they tend to lean towards less rewarding rng more than surprising and exciting.

If the bb had an athena (locked until sunk) and then a random cof then it's appealing.

A tribute chest or maybe a 1/20 ashen athena isn't really worth the time to many.

So I think there is an opening there where they can make activity both rewarding by default and then extra rewarding once in a while.

Old school example is meg loot. Megs were always one of the non-event things that could drop ancient bone dust. I still remember years ago when I killed a meg and got 4 ancient bone dust out of it, while reaper 5, on a gold and glory weekend. That was a huge dub at the time.

Megs were always worth it to me because it was one of the pve things that had random treats. Could have been a stronghold skull and ancient bone dust (which was pretty much like a free skeleton fort at the time) That was a big deal for solo play back then.

Could just do more of that and just make it more relevant by using current win conditions.

  • The gold rate really doesnt need upped, the balance of how much you get doing some stuff just feels completely off ever since they reworked voyages completely since they made pretty much every common chest from anything but vaults, worth more than even cursed chests which had a down side to balance the value you got out of them.

It was a weird value balance breaking update, and just somewhat took the fun out of the game by making it underwhelmingly predictable what every quest you pick will do now.
