I really feel that these kinds of low yield and very predictable activities could do with an element of RNG to shake things up. If you know exactly what you're going to get before you even dive to them, that's always going to make them underwhelming. Give a low chance at landing high tier loot and that would make them more exciting.
Unless they reverted it, the Burning Blade has a chance to spawn an Ashen Chest of Legends? Which I think is a great idea.
Same kind of thing with the Voyage of Luck. Getting a gilded one feels awesome, but even the one dig maps feel great when you get something high tier.
(and, yes, I agree that the gold piles are very silly in terms of how little you get)
I agree that the rng can work but they tend to lean towards less rewarding rng more than surprising and exciting.
If the bb had an athena (locked until sunk) and then a random cof then it's appealing.
A tribute chest or maybe a 1/20 ashen athena isn't really worth the time to many.
So I think there is an opening there where they can make activity both rewarding by default and then extra rewarding once in a while.
Old school example is meg loot. Megs were always one of the non-event things that could drop ancient bone dust. I still remember years ago when I killed a meg and got 4 ancient bone dust out of it, while reaper 5, on a gold and glory weekend. That was a huge dub at the time.
Megs were always worth it to me because it was one of the pve things that had random treats. Could have been a stronghold skull and ancient bone dust (which was pretty much like a free skeleton fort at the time) That was a big deal for solo play back then.
Could just do more of that and just make it more relevant by using current win conditions.
