Resurrecting the third person camera request - For PVE Servers only!

    There is zero advantage to third person camera being enabled for play on PVE servers. It is fine to have it here. And tons of people, besides me, have requested this feature for this game.

    Short story time:

    Picked this game up some time back, all videos showed awesome looking pirates running around, and amazing visuals of high seas and ship combat and sailing looked awesome!

    Installed it, game had me pick and customize my pirate, to such a degree, 15+ mins sunk onto that, I figured oh yes, third person camera HAS to be an option here, even if not on by default, and find out, once loaded in, first person cam view. And in researching, that the devs forced this due to pvp concerns.

    Good for the devs! Bad for me, I did not spend 15+ mins adjusting my pirate just to NEVER see it again, outside emotes. Never played the game again. And won't, until third person cam gets added in, at least for the PVE servers.

    That's a wild amount of development for safer seas in a multiplayer live service game.

    Good for the devs! Bad for me, I did not spend 15+ mins adjusting my pirate just to NEVER see it again, outside emotes. Never played the game again. And won't, until third person cam gets added in, at least for the PVE servers.

    So firstly, they would have to add PvE servers before your request is even added. And since PvE servers are a no go anyways....that means your request wont come.

    Besides that. The game is built around the idea of "You" are the pirare and looking at the world through there eyes.

    There are no PvE servers, just PvPvE. The game is built for 1st person, with tunnels and caves, cramped areas on your ship, and the outpost shops and taverns all being tight spaces that would make 3rd person a nightmare. No thanks, downvote.

    So if my friend and I join SS together, and I decide to blunderbomb them to death. Has it become a pvpve server now?
    Anyways, SS has never been called a PvE server. Only the players who wish it was tho.

    Rare nor the mods have never called Safer Seas a PvE server. It’s technically still a PvPvE environment considering you can kill your own crewmates, so Bacon is correct.

    Whatever thread you need to hold on to is no issue or judgement from me. You can kill your crew mates, but can not steal their share of the treasure as long as they stay on the crew. This is no small detail.

    @sairdontis4317 yes, but i cant even count the amount of times that i sunk a enemy on the high seas and couldn’t be bothered to sell their loot and made it sink.

    So yeah, SS are not PvE servers the difference they have is that only one crew can join them at a time. And due to that reduced risk with no other crews there is a reduced reward.

    Having to have any sort of extra development for safer seas will make them less and less viable because the servers are already at least 6 times more expensive to host per player then High seas servers are.

    People seem to think that adding something like 3rd person camera is simple to add, “just move the camera”. But it is not it would lead to ALOT more expensive development to have it work and make control schemes for it.

    In early stages of development both 1st and 3rd person was tested and in the end 1st person was the choice they made and stuck with

    Not all treasure is Gold. In many players, the fact someone else didn't get the gold for whatever reason or pleasure of killing a pirate is enough reward. That makes it pvpve still.

    Maybe I also did a Event/Deed/Trial/daily thing that granted me gold but not my crew, just me for doing it. ^_^

    @callmebackdraft Yeah, it sounds quite the technical hurdle, though I am unsure of the expense involved in implementing something like that. I'm also of the opinion the 1st person was challenge intended in that you can't see behind yourself without turning.

    Also, if they made something that made a mode 6 times more expensive they would need to make up the money somewhere possibly more cosmetic sales other methods . I would wonder how many players would want the option also as opposed to those would not see the benefit or worse lose challenge in the game and are those player that want it buying cosmetics in the game of offset the cost ?

    The calculation is quite simple of safer seas being 6 times more expensive. They require a server to go live that has the same capabilities of a high seas server however only one crew instead of 6 crews can be present on them. On high seas servers are constantly merging to have it be the most efficient, no such thing can happen for Safer seas.

    Of course the reduced risk is a reason for the reduced reward but the extra expense is also one imho because they dont want any more extra incentives to play safer seas indtead of high seas

    @callmebackdraft I personally would try to not remove incentives to playing the game regardless of mode if I was trying to maintain profits.

    It would be interesting to see to the numbers of players wanting improvements to Safer Seas compared to those opposed to those improvements being added. I suppose based on the stance on Safer Seas that, for now at least, those numbers are on the side of High Seas improvements over Safer Seas as if this was not the case the game would be losing money and that can only continue for a limited time.

    @sairdontis4317 it has nothing to do with individual improvements for high seas or safer seas.

    Keeping development as simple as possible is the best chance for safer seas to survive, otherwise of it costs too much individual development time to keep safer seas in working order it will go the way of arena, which cost way too much in upkeep.

    And rare as always stated that high seas has been, is and always will be the main way to play

    @callmebackdraft Rare has to follow the money unfortunately . Hope that mode that one personally favors stays on the side of profitability is all I can say on that. From what you have said based on technical costs Safer Seas could be priced out of existence quite easily . I hope that doesn't happen.

    Okay, so Rare calls their approx equiv of PVE servers "Safer Seas". Cool.

    And about adding third person camera to that game mode? Technical difficulties, in all my searches about this, were never an issue, Rare always cited pvp advantages to allowing a third person camera to Sea of Thieves.

    And Safer Seas game mode seems ideal for this to be an allowed option. [No, I don't see being able to be a jerk and attack your picked team mates as a serious pvp concern for this mode.]

    Would love to see this added! Will just shelf this game until Rare does so. I can wait.

    I have played this game since March of 2018 which was the same Month that the game came out and I always thought that they should have some way to see your own pirate while running and killing skeletons and such. Rare pls add this it would be awesome.

    Unfortunately it doesn't particularly matter what you do or don't think 'seems ideal' for a mode in this game. As was stated a few times earlier in this conversation, Rare has come out and said point blank that there will be absolutely NO updates made specifically for Safer Seas that High Seas does not also have. They're not gonna go through the expense of restructuring their game from the ground up to add a third person camera mode that almost nobody wants six years into an anticipated ten-year life cycle.

    Will just shelf this game until Rare does so. I can wait.

    Get comfy then, bud. You'll experience the heat death of the universe before you ever log into this game again. I kinda doubt you sitting out of playing this game (especially since you've already apparently purchased it and they have your money anyway) is gonna be the straw that breaks the camel's back to the devs on this change.
