boat games?!

  • There should be boat games like simple ones like tic tac toe or checkers or small games like that on the boat for longer sailing or if your sweat friend does all the sailing i think that would be a good idea!!

You could help them with sailing. Keep those sails at full billow for them.

    Or..or..

You could do a little fishing and cooking. Get some nice overheal food items ready to go for some PvE or PvP battles.

    Or...or...

Maybe shoot over to islands you're passing by and grab up extra supplies to keep the ship stocked up.

    Or...

You could help with navigating if they need it, or do checks of the horizon up in the crows nest to see if other ships are around.

You know, instead of making your sweaty friend do everything. There is a load of stuff to be doing, and having a Crew should mean some of the burden is pulled off you. Otherwise you might as well be on a solo Sloop.

Plus, if all else fails, make up some of your own games. You have loads of tools available for this. The Dice Emotes (though I hear those disappeared here recently?), or make a version of Rock, Paper, Scissors with tools you have - Shovel, Bucket, Lantern anyone? Could grab some of the emotes and make little shows for each other or retell epic tales. Maybe even sing a shanty together as a crew.

What I'm saying is, I don't honestly think we need mini games around. Just another thing for people to get distracted by, making them less productive on the server at the best case. The worst case is the extra flood of posts we would see on here about how "we were just trying to enjoy a mini game and these PvP toxic meanies came over and killed us" that we all end up having to deal with around here.

Or at least one person is competent enough to keep it managed. If YOU can't come to the agreement of who is on duty for the time to keep the ship managed, that's your fault, not the games'.

Eh, IMO only fun for a little while then it's just really just another chore when you have so many other sources like Sea Forts, Shipwrecks or even floating barrels to stock up with until you have enough to last the rest of the session.

Maybe shoot over to islands you're passing by and grab up extra supplies to keep the ship stocked up.

That's not constantly at hand to be needed by every crew member. If they're to add little games to play surely you'd be able to get up and come back to it later...?

You could help with navigating if they need it, or do checks of the horizon up in the crows nest to see if other ships are around.

Again, another thing with having a competent crew that can run 2 meters to look at the map and not wheel hog all the time, yeah...

And for the few of us who are solo slooping, something like little singleplayer games would be fun. Being competent at sailing doesn't make them sweaty, either.

Plus, if all else fails, make up some of your own games.

I think most people right now just get on their phones lol

You have loads of tools available for this. The Dice Emotes (though I hear those disappeared here recently?)

Exactly, so far the consistency of those emotes are so random and staggered it would just be beneficial to add something permanent.

, or make a version of Rock, Paper, Scissors with tools you have - Shovel, Bucket, Lantern anyone?

Replayable for maybe 10 times per/ session, card games could last a lot longer time and would be a lot more replayable.

What I'm saying is, I don't honestly think we need mini games around.

Maybe not need, but it'd be a QoL for later-game crews who don't need things constantly under maintenance. Another Roleplay aspect.

The worst case is the extra flood of posts we would see on here about how "we were just trying to enjoy a mini game and these PvP toxic meanies came over and killed us" that we all end up having to deal with around here.

Which would have the exact same response as we give them already; "it's your own fault".

Again, if they're to add these games they would really have to make sure you can leave and come back, because it'd be unbelievably dumb to lock a player into the minigame until completion, and I think the devs would realise this.

I'm perfectly capable, primary solo Slooper. Of course you can let them manage everything still, but again, what is the point in that? Play the game with them.

Eh, IMO only fun for a little while then it's just really just another chore when you have so many other sources like Sea Forts, Shipwrecks or even floating barrels to stock up with until you have enough to last the rest of the session.

Bet that these mini games wouldn't have the same thing. It boils down to repetitive tasks get boring over time. You get poker, it will be fun for awhile and then I can assure you we'll just have people wanting new options. Now Liars Dice. Now solitaire for when I'm solo. Now...

I don't see this as solving that issue by any stretch, if anything it would be a band aid. There is plenty to do if you choose to do it, simple as that. At least doing this you're giving your crew something that can be advantageous rather than doing nothing but wasting some time.

That's not constantly at hand to be needed by every crew member. If they're to add little games to play surely you'd be able to get up and come back to it later...?

Yes, because people should lock themselves to doing just one thing on the ship and nothing else. This is just another arrow in the proverbial quiver to keep yourself occupied, like everything else I listed.

Again, another thing with having a competent crew that can run 2 meters to look at the map and not wheel hog all the time, yeah...

And, again, I'm not saying you should just be doing one thing. Yes, this step is pointless if that is all you're gonna do for your crew. But mixing it in with some other tasks and you'll be just fine.

And for the few of us who are solo slooping, something like little singleplayer games would be fun. Being competent at sailing doesn't make them sweaty, either.

The OP is the one who mentioned it making them "sweaty" and I was simply following up their comment. I would agree with you here in that not being the case, but take that up with the OP. Also, thanks for pointing out that now we are already gonna snowball this into multiple mini games for wasting time so that there are games for solos and crews. Exactly what I would have expected.

I think most people right now just get on their phones lol

Sounds like a problem with the people you play with. My crew, when I play with them, don't have this problem and can always seem to find things to do to make themselves actually useful from a gameplay perspective. And I certainly don't feel a need to do this when solo because I got things to do and I'm here to play the game, not sit on my phone.

Exactly, so far the consistency of those emotes are so random and staggered it would just be beneficial to add something permanent.

So, you don't like the tools they have already provided that can accommodate playing your own little mini games and want more of it? I'd rather have far more interesting things be focused on personally.

Replayable for maybe 10 times per/ session, card games could last a lot longer time and would be a lot more replayable.

Like any other random mini games they add to this. They would be novel the first few times and then the vast majority would forget they even exist.

Maybe not need, but it'd be a QoL for later-game crews who don't need things constantly under maintenance. Another Roleplay aspect.

I wouldn't really call it QoL - I would call it a novelty. And one that will likely not receive much attention since I think most people are here to be pirates and not card players.

Which would have the exact same response as we give them already; "it's your own fault".

Doesn't change the fact that it just opens up another door for even more flooding of this place with that nonsense. I really don't see it as being worth it.

Again, if they're to add these games they would really have to make sure you can leave and come back, because it'd be unbelievably dumb to lock a player into the minigame until completion, and I think the devs would realise this.

That would actually make the system a fair bit more complex from a development standpoint - meaning even more dev time spent on something that is a side novelty at best.

I'd rather they spend effort on encouraging people to get out there, move around the map, load up on loot, and potentially run into other players and see what interactions they get from those moments.

There is more than enough to distract yourself as it is, a lot of it can be beneficial to the actual gameplay loop (though there are also a load of options available as well that don't if that is your jam, some just require more creativity - I didn't even scratch the surface with the examples I provided originally).

  • @uxmbu what about thermonuclear war

  • @qu1etone
"Would you like to play a game?"

@uxmbu, in all seriousness, I think that sounds like a great idea!

  • IDK, I would find it annoying if i was doing everything and my crewmate wasn't doing anything, games or not. You are part of a crew that everyone has a part to play. and it's nice to have an extra hand helping out.

  • It’s the plank for any slackers on my crew!

  • I already thought we were playing SOT and that involves sailing from A to B, so you better trim those sails while your friend holds the helm.

  • Nope. If you have that much time on your hands your a junk crew member and won't be invited back.
