New ships and side quests

  • After all the updates, the ships have stayed the same each and every time. All we have been getting is new cosmetics, which isn’t bad but just getting old. I propose two new ships and a change in the current ships, a Schooner and a Man of War. Make the Schooner a three person ship and give it the same speed as a Brig. Make the Man of War a eight person ship and give it the slowest speed of all the ships. The Man of War would have a total of sixteen cannons, four on the top and bottom on each side of the ship. ![alt text](image url)As for they change to the current ships make the Brig a four person ship and the Galleon a six person ship. For side quests, add treasure fleets that players can attack and be rewarded with new items. A chest loaded with gold that it can’t close, a Golden skull, gold dust, and a golden stronghold barrel. Another idea is to be able to attack and loot ports like pirates did back in the days. Adding these ideas to the game would really help make it feel like we are playing in the golden age of piracy.

  • @thejoker571 No to six or eight person ships. This game is not ready for such crew sizes. I mean voyages, skelly galleons, fortresses and so on aren't a real challenge, but with a crew of eight they become a joke. Also brigs and galleons have been designed for their current crew sizes, increasing their crew size ruins the balance.

On top of that I've yet to see a reasonable idea how to balance these warships. Especially against sloops. In the past people have suggested to make them slower than a sloop but if it takes you half an hour just to reach the next island it gets boring really really fast.

  • IMO the game needs two ships.

A new four player ship to sit between the Brigantine and the Galleon. (Frigate with three cannons each side)

The Galleon should then be made 5 player.

A new Pirate Legend ship again 5 players (So not too OP against the Galleon) but offering to new game play and variation.

But to be honest what I really love is new tools, equipment that allows emergent game play. At the moment the only thing the game has like that is the Gun Powder Barrels. If Rare can give us these fun things to create our own mischief and fun we will scream less for new content.

  • Yeah, cuz all we need is people who like to play sloops to get even more frustrated with 4 people boarding them, while other 2 stay on their big ship. This game is not balanced for such a big sizes crews...
Im okay with the idea to input another kind of ships to have more variety. But those ships with all that people on it... sharing the same server with people who have less advantage... Maybe this could be implemented if we get anyday, some kind of "Clan/Guild/Brotherhood" Options and with the creation of some "Guilds wars servers..." or something like that...

PD: Maybe to balance those mega ships they could include the need of people moving the boat by "rowing"(not a native english speaker, not sure if that word is correctly for that), so we would make that someone would need to stay inside the ship, and making sure that not just everyone jumps with the canoon. Because... just imagine this war ship of 6 persons against a sloop... I can see total chaos of people flying around the sloop. It sounds a total mess.

    Yeeehaaaa!!!
Spread the curse in the seaaas!

  • The problem is not with the bigger ships, it’s the people playing that are the problem. I’ve sailed with crews that all they wanted to do was mess with other players and ruin their fun. Even on Brigs they would attack anything that sailed because they thought it was fun to mess with people. Rare needs to address this issue first if anything’s gonna get better. I believe they should establish some sort of bounty system so when you attack other player ship, something will come after that ship to keep them occupied so it won’t bother other ships.
I can agree that an 8 person ship may be too much, but a 5 person ship is not. If not a Man of War then something else, playing with the same ships over and over is getting old. There are plenty of other ships from history that pirates and other nations have used that can be added to the game. As for changing how many people can be on a ship, if they added a harpoon gun they can easily add an extra person to a ship.

The problem with sloops is that most people use them for PvP. There is more to this game then simply harassing people.

Perhaps having 8 people on a ship is a bit much but 6 people I believe is perfect. I know the ships are already balanced but adding a single player to the galleon won’t break the game. You then can add a new 4 player ship similar to the brigantine and a 6 player ship similar to the galleon.

I have been on a full 4 man crew and have been sunk by a sloop. The key is strategy. The sloops have always been considered hard mode on the sea of thieves. Adding 2 new ships won’t make any difference except add more to the game

I like the idea of raiding ports. You can create a small village or plantation where you could steal crates of fine sugar and other merchant crates.
