Shores of Gold needs to be privite while in Shroud

  • So my crew and I had just finished the final tale, grabbed the skull and went threw the waterfall and were ambushed by a crew, killed, and our skull was taken. We tried to chase them once we respawned but could not catch them. We were then sent a party request where the other crew then proceeded to laugh at us about it and told us they camped the waterfall for 1.5 hours till we came out and that they already had all the cosmetics for the tale and didn't even need to turn in the skull. They said they just do this for fun and to make other pirates lives hell. Needless to say we were very angry. We did report the other crew for the rude taunting. I feel that something has to change with this game in order to stop this type of camping. In this case I believe that when a crew enters the shroud they should be the only crew on the island at that time. Once you leave the shroud you are once again fair game. This would make this tale more fair and eliminate the campers who are ruining this game. No problem if a ship takes me down once I leave the shroud as this is a pirate game but the beginning and end point camping on the tales needs to stop. This is the solution I think would work great for this especially since the last part of the tale puts you underground where you cant see your ship or other crews. I have friends who now will not play the game any more because of these grief campers and this is ruining a otherwise very fun gam.

I Understand and can even see some merit in what u say.

But still my answer be no.

    I will explain
For example TT6 starts at plunder u go to sailor bounty and back to plunder.

With your suggestion about stop camping at start or end. How do u want to implement this? Once u talk to salty to start TT6 the whole of plunder island just gets removed of the map?

Campers and griefers can be a bit annoying but its part of the game and its a tactic u can use.

We got lots of diffrent pirates on the seas. U just met one who outplayed u on tactics. I mean u were with a crew. U could choose to leave one behind so he not underground and guarding your position. U could have Let a crew mate jump first to check surroundings before the next crew mate jumps with the skull/loot.

In this case and im sorry to say u got out played with a tactic u didnt expect.

I will give u this there is no need to be toxic and call u names when u communicate with the enemy. Sadly this is for some people their human natures. Humans....

  • @druidking1 Did this happen just once? Or has it happened multiple times? The reporting seems appropriate for what they were saying to you guys, but I doubt the devs are going to make changes to this unless it can be demonstrated to occur consistently. From how you described these guys it sounds like you aren't the only victim of their trolling, so others need to voice their experiences as well.

  • No, thank you.

  • I agree, a new land only accessible by the tale should be locked behind that crew. Like Destiny does when your teams placed in their own server for raids, strikes, etc. Especially one that takes place where you can’t see your ship. All the other ones have you going in the caves for minuets. But this one has you down their for like ever... I think only SoG should be separated for the crews like you say...

  • @weakdexx to be fair he was only talking about the Shores of Gold being private to the crew not any other islands.

  • And people on these forums claim there’s no griefers =_=

I personally believe that although it would be nice to prevent people from doing that at the shores of gold, it really and unfortunately can’t be done because it’s an ‘open server’ of sorts. Anyone can go anywhere if they have the ability to.

And since it’s a pirate game a lot of people will say it’s your fault and that you should’ve paid attention. And that it’s all fair game.

Unless I’m wrong, Rare might not be able to do anything about it.

I’m sorry you had to endure that, mate. Cuz my best friend and I had to go through hours of hell because of griefers and spawn campers when we were doing tall tales, so I understand your frustrations.

  • @cddegarmo

They don’t “need to” if they literally admitted to doing it. Some people playing SoT can’t be bothered with the forums or maybe they don’t know it’s a thing? Whenever I search up voyage help reddit always pops up first.

Or yknow some people end up suffering because they know their frustrations won’t be listened to. And so why bother posting?

I’m glad this guy posted that event, because what those pirates did most certainly isn’t okay, regardless as to if it’s a pirate game or not.

  • Not really griefing...all they did was steal a skull worth 10k. You dont need it to finish quest.

  • @druidking1 Good on you for reporting them in regards to the voice chat.

But be wary of the use of the term griefing. As far are waiting at the end and stealing the skull and killing you that is perfectly okay. It's no different than hiding behind a rock while a crew does a fort.

    1. Activate Tall Tale 9.
    2. Go about your business doing voyages, athena, etc...
    3. If you get attacked or feel like losing a tailing ship, sail to the shroud and disappear.

Sounds like an exploit to me.

  • Check it @Druidking1 there are many different stories

  • @jza16

Re read the OP please i make a small copy for u.

but the beginning and end point camping on the tales needs to stop.

On the tales. Multiple yes it started off with shroud story but this cleary states to me tales as in multiple

  • The fact people camp for hours just to ruin someone else's game is pathetic. They even said that's what they do... You really have that little going on that you'll waste hours sitting in bushes JUST to ruin someone's fun?

  • They stole 10k. You got full credit for the voyage and lost 10k loot afterwards. Nothing is wrong with this. There was certainly no griefing

If anything the skull prevents griefing. In order for them to steal it, YOU need to complete the tale. If they couldn’t steal it, maybe they would have killed you sooner?

Sounds like the bester team got the loot, but you still got the tall tale credit. Let’s move on.

  • @druidking1 The skull is worth 10,000 to whoever turns it in. This is piracy. This is no different than hiding at a fort and blowing the Mega Keg when the crew gets it aboard. Whenever someone who attacks me sends me a party invite, I decline. I'd recommend doing the same. Don't know what they said in chat, but if it doesn't violate the code, then reporting it is pointless.

  • I would say nay on trying to curb camping like this. If their exist justifiable reasons to camp islands, than by extension you can't outright remove it. As @WeakDexx put it, Tall Tails exist all around the Sea of Thieves. You cannot just lay claim to a whole island just because you have business there. Other people may have legitimate reasons to be on said island, because of that, you cannot stop people from being there.

This same logic applies to Outpost camping and just normal island camping, especially when it pertains to Athena steals. If I know you have an Athena chest on Wanderer's Refuge, you can bet your sweet little buns I'm pitching a tent, or planning to ambush you at the nearest outpost you may cash out at.

  • @druidking1

This tale is designed with a few safety nets to it.

Did you know that if your ship sinks at the Shores of Gold, it will respawn there? This makes it impossible for you to lose your ship there unless someone takes the time to sail it somewhere else while you're in the dungeon.

Additionally, another user mentioned this, but if they steal the skull from you, you still get the commendation point for completing the voyage/delivering the skull. All you're losing is 10k.

There's really not a lot to lose, but I hate that they spoiled the moment that you exit the cave with the orchestral version of Becalmed playing... I'm a no-good dirty thief myself, but I would never dream of ruining that moment for another player.

Either way, you didn't lose any progress, just 10k gold. Private instances would be abused and Rare have already taken measures to ensure that losing to another crew during this tale is not overly punishing.

  • Piracy....

    In... Sea of Theives?!

    NOOooOOOooOoo!!!

  • I finally did TT9 for the 1st time ever myself last night. It took us hours to do, and I was grateful that we did it in the dead of night when few pirates from the states were sailing the Sea, much less actively doing TT9 (or camping it). We figured it all out, died a lot, hated the GH, completed the voyage, and turned in the loot without seeing a single soul in sight.

I recommend following the advice of others, as it's genuinely good advice - that said, on my maiden voyage, I wouldn't want to be stuck at the boat on guard duty, though after all of the hassle of going through it, I may do exactly that on subsequent voyages to Tribute Peak.

  • @nabberwar To clarify I only was suggesting that the "private" island only apply to the Shores of Gold. As another commenter noted this is the same thing the game Destiny does when you go into a strike. Once you enter the shroud it becomes private and once you leave it you are fair game. Others can still do the tale they would just be on there own "private island when in the shroud. Again everyone would be fair game once they leave the shroud and "rejoin" everyone else. You could still sink someone or steal there skull at this time. I just don't think it is right for say a team of 4 to camp the waterfall in order to steal the skull. Especially say if you are a single player or even up to 3 players you are at a huge disadvantage coming out of the waterfall. I think it would just make it less disheartening for crews that took so much of their time to do the tale and have the payoff ruined by campers. Also I believe there is a commendation for turning in 5 skulls so you are being deprived of that.

  • I honestly thought it was already set up like that. I'd been to Golden Shores several times to scout it and do the Tale. I never saw anyone there. Spent a bit of time finding everything, fully expected someone to show up given how long I'd been there and how new TT was. I even put the Reaper's Mark up one time to see if anyone would come check.

  • Can only you remind you of the last thing the pirate lord says
"not about the gold, it's about the glory"

but has stole one skull myself.
not hiding at the waterfall, but on the open sea
    long story short.
played with my friend, had my brother next to me.
we spawned in at Galleon grave outpost.
we saw a Galleon full sail out to the shroud, full sail, but it was clear what they where up to.
so we headed to a fort to get us some boom kegs, an sail to morrows outpost to get our own shroudbreaker, an just laid wait in the shroud water while eating some food irl.
they made the misake follow after us, since they where in a Galleon an we where in a sloop, they could easy run from us, but following a sloop, ends up in a blown up galleon.

I bet those guy weren't happy, but I haven't seen any post from them, that rare should make a safe zone for them to do the tale tall in peace.

You have to do it 5 time, so why not leave one man behind on the ship.

  • @xshadovvhunterx

No but it’s the reward for finishing the quest. It’s griefing when they literally do it to multiple people and only do it to create distress.

  • @greencamillion1

    Dude that’s completely different.

The people have been doing it to MULTIPLE other crews, and they literally park for over an hour just to steal the skull and cause distress. That’s griefing.

  • @agent-samuraii that's not griefing. It's a silly way to play and I feel bad for them, but its not griefing.

  • @captain-coel

It’s the literal definition of it lol

I’m not arguing this again. It’s griefing. Ruins the fun for everyone.

  • @greencamillion1 what’s one man supposed to do against a galleon 😂😂😂

  • Destiny does something similar... when you go into a mission area, you are moved into a private instance. Of course, you can't PvP in the shared world space and its strictly a PvE game outside of crucible.

  • @agent-samuraii caping a spot and waiting for a crew to come out to purposefully snag a 10k skull is not griefing. That's called being a loser, honestly for both teams.

It's the same complaint when people do a skull fort and then get steamrolled and lose the loot. Heck if I see a crew doing a fort I row over and wait for them to finish and then sink them. easy peasy 20k.

  • @d3adst1ck

Activate Tall Tale 9. Go about your business doing voyages, athena, etc... If you get attacked or feel like losing a tailing ship, sail to the shroud and disappear.

Sounds like an exploit to me.

Or a damned good idea! Tools - not Rules.

EDIT: Except that it does not work. At least, not if you sail outside the map grid A-1 to Z-26 grid. I equipped the Shoudbreaker and sailed East from Magma's Tide, off the right-hand edge of the map at Z-20. My ship took damage and sank, just as if the Shroudbreaker had not been equipped.

It would interesting to sail South of the Ancient Isles (trying to reach C-25, for example), or further North of Tribute Peak (The Shores of Gold), above X-1.

Cloaking devices are tools. Nuclear weapons are tools. Machine guns are tools. Booster rockets are tools.

Not all tools belong in this game. Being able to automatically phase your ship out of existence and into a private instance is one of those tools that do not belong.

  • @jza16 I could get behind that.

    Speak for yourself.

I find it funny. No fun ruined for me.

  • Attacking others for no reason isn't griefing - it's an option. Sure, it's frowned upon, but it's still not griefing. Being verbally abusive, on the other hand? That's definitely griefing. I never mentioned it before, but props to you for reporting them for that abuse, OP.
