Insider servers being treated as main game and private servers

  • Insider program people are only playing that game and leveling up like it’s there own private pve server, then get upset if they encounter pvp. Insider program servers should be shut off when patches drop to get people back into the regular game, and reset all progress! Period

The program is great to test bugs exp new content ect ect but splitting the community and letting be level up and only play on that server is not right.

I propose when I patch drops shut those servers down and make people play the game then when new stuff is coming out restart them and reset all progress.

Closed beta servers are not the real game.

  • Relax, those players who were on the Insiders build for PvE are getting the same experience as in live now but with potentially more bugs.

Don't worry, after the 30th there will be a new insiders build to test further tweaks and features. And even if people were using the Insiders build as a more quiet server there's no harm in it. They are testing and finding bugs for us, they are still playing the game and they have the downside of potentially having all of the progress reset and missing out on current progress. I'm not sure why you're upset.

  • People already whine in the regular mode when it comes to PvP. The point of the Insider build is to break the game, and this is done by a wide variety of people playing the game in the way they usually play it. When new things are added sometimes old things break. No matter what the current build is, old things should still be subject to testing. Some people in this game focus on PvE content, so it isn't surprising people do it in the build. It also seems silly to reset Rep when some new content might be Rep related, like Pirate Legend content. Why force players to grind just to test new stuff?

This idea is silly at pointless and comes off as a bitter like the PvE crowd complaining about PvP, just inverted.

  • @nabberwar and if new PL stuff comes out and after reset just make people spawn in PL to test it and same with Athena ect ect.

I get why you guys want to use the insiders and test bugs, break game ect, but just reset the progress and or shut it down between content patches, just like other games, other ptrs ect

I’m not upset I just don’t see how letting people play on there own private test server and leveling and playing the game on that server is good for the overall game.

Reset and or shut it down after patches come to real game. That’s all nothing wrong with that.

Oh the other thing is with it so easy to sign up for insiders anyone can do it. And those servers are busier then real servers. So anyone looking for pvp that’s a good place to find it! Super easy to sign up.

  • Joe said in last weeks stream, "It doesn't matter where you came from, Rare just wants to get the game in as many hands as possible."

Insider Programme keeps players involved with the game. Even gamepass players can get in. Add the cosmetics and obviously Rare wants anybody checking out the new content.

Just like the retail version, Rare will not say: "play as you like, but dont play in this manner".

  • @algaram4x It appears you have misunderstood how the Insider build works. Sea of Thieves and the Insider build of Sea of Thieves are two completely separate things. Insider game data doesn’t carry over to the regular Sea of Thieves game. Any progress we make on the insider build stays on the insider build. Any progress an insider makes on Sea of Thieves is not carried over to the insider build of Sea of Thieves, the two things are COMPLETELY separate from each other. This means that your claim that Insiders are getting an easy “PVE” experience and easily leveling is completely false.

  • I've noticed its become a lot harder to actually test things since they opened up insider to everyone. Ive been killed many times by groups of kids just trolling the test server. I've been killed while keeping to myself just trying to test things. Its definitley a thing thats going on.

In the early days people were friendly and sailed together testing new features. That is gone now. Im not against the pvp in the main game at all, but I do find it very irritating in the insider server. Then again, so is the kracken.

When you know they are kids just report them...insider is for 18+ ONLY

  • @exeternautical
No, what he's saying is that large amounts of the community are playing insider. This depletes the main game. I think he is also saying that there should be some more incentive to play the main game so people who dont do insider fizzle out because it feels like the sea is empty

  • Will the insider program still continue after the anniversary update?

  • @i24ivi1i23z yes it will.

As for the OP: Insider servers aren’t going to be shut down. It was us, the players, who asked for continuous testing and we got exactly that. That’s a good thing! Ever since Pioneer became continuous, and Insiders by extend, the amount of feedback we have been able to provide and the speed at which Rare has been able to deal with the feedback has increased massively.

It’s in everyone’s best interest the Insider Builds remain an active entity.

  • @murkrage thanks bud!

  • @i24ivi1i23z yes as long as the game grows we will always have stuff to test

If not for the Insider Programme, I would not have any interest in playing SoT for at least the past month.

Now, I can't decide what to do first when the update drops next week.

You're not even in the Insider Programme yet you are complaining about it?

    A. By the time the patch drops, we are already testing the next proposed update.

    B. The test game requires you to have a new pirate, so we are not leveling up our regular characters.

    C. As for the splitting time between normal game and the test build. Would you rather people not test the game so you can see endless posts in the forums about patches causing problems? Take advantage of the testers splitting their time and go run some gilded voyages and a fort or two with less opposition.

    D. Of course some testers will be trying to level up while others test specific features. That's the point. Testing the new quests & features for bugs/glitches is only part of the process. You need to level up to see if there are any problems with the reputation and/or reward system.

Did you already forget the early days after launch where rewards, gold and reputation were all being bottle-necked as a result of glitches and patches? This is why the Insider programme is more robust this time around. To reduce and/or eliminate the likelihood of these problems come launch time.

Be grateful that we spend so much time testing the game in an effort to help Rare have as smooth a release as possible.

  • @algaram4x
No...Since I like to record my games and I cant on insiders, I definitely can't wait till april 30th and play all the new updates live. Not to mention I can play with all my returning friends who have taken a small break in anticipation for the Mega Update.

There are people who are trying getting their hour in to get rewards.

There are people who have a fully progressed character and are having fun with the new stuff, since about the only thing they can do is earn gold they don't need or commendations they may not care to grind out. That will change once the patch hits.

Let people play how they want to play, that's the beauty of SOT.

This is true and I think the same. I Just saying I think I know what he meant. Early I saw a post similar to this stating SoT is dying. I told him not really it's just most people are testing Insider.

I've certainly had my share of those same experiences, and it can be very frustrating, but there is just no way around it. As others have mentioned, as Insiders we're kinda here to see what works and what doesn't. If they set it so that you couldn't be randomly attacked while doing (fill in the blank) on the Insider version, they might not discover a dozen minor bugs that only come up when you are randomly attacked while doing (fill in the blank). They wouldn't want to find out about those after the 'public' version of the game goes live.

My philosophy is not to take anything in the Insider's build too seriously. It is just a place to have fun and play with new features early (and, of course, help the game evolve). If I encounter overly aggressive players, I back out and server hop. If that resets some task I was doing, oh well, start over. Not worth getting upset over. Nothing really "counts" there, anyway.

  • Those grinding for gold will be sorry when rare wipes their characters it’s not guaranteed but highly likely the build will be replaced at some point and there would be no need to transfer the characters

  • @wolf24041 that will be the day that insiders is more like pioneers again, alot of grinders (that took this as a pve server) will leave and alot of the trolls will leave over time.

  • @callmebackdraft exactly I haven’t had issues on insider but with the content on there I enjoy testing it especially the pvp mechanics being added or mechanics that can be used that way but others see a new character to level up and idk why

  • OP doesn't understand that the Insider build is a completely different game build and pirate profile. Sign up and see for yourself. It doesn't not affect your retail pirate with the exception of the weekly rewards given for participating in the Insider testing.

People in there are testing features that aren't in the main build so of course there is a good chance you will see friendly pirates testing out new mechanics for the first time.

Example: Spent about 45 mins sailing around with another sloop and shooting barrels with our harpoons. We are testing the mechanics so we are more concerned with seeing how they react in different situations than just grinding to PL.

There is still lots of PvP on the insider servers too.

Also the insider progress could be reset at any time depending on what Rare needs to test so it's a little daunting to worry about losing the progress on a pirate.
