Throwing Cursed Cannonballs

  • Cursed cannonballs are quite a fun edition to the game but there should be a way to use them in more "new and interesting ways".. It would be really interesting if players were able to throw cannonballs a few feet and trigger any curses they have where they land. This would make pvp considerably more interesting if someone boards you then throws a Weary Ball at you then can either kill you or run off and cause havoc. This would also enable players to curse enemy ships while onboard them as well.

Fighting skeletons would be considerably more interesting as well because if you are in a cave or something you would still be able to have a dance party with them if you bring the cannonball.

  • Or somephing like grenades, with the curses on it.

  • @zherron-vorse you mean like potions ? 🤔

  • I allways wanted cursed grenades!
Only pickup and throw, no store and only one in your inventory, or even not to be able to switch to a weapon without to drop or use it, else i'm guessing they become too powerfull especially regarding boarding.

  • What happens if a ball of ballast drops on your own, left foot?

  • I think this is a good idea on paper but when implemented, not so much. I have played a number of PvP games that lose love due to the amount of crowd control (CC) available, OW being the most obvious example. Looking at the reaction people have given over increased lag on missing a sword swing (and that's something you have control over), imagine how triggering it will be every time you get into pvp, you're going to be stuck in sleeping/dancing. It will be 'who can get there CC off first, wins'. I personally think cursed cannon balls need their hard CC reduced a wee bit because I find them more frustrating than fun. I think more people would think this if the CC was more easily accessible.

Having said that, access to more weapons does increase the depth of PVP we have, I just don't think CC should be the way it is done.

  • @zherron-vorse

I do love this idea, I'd like to see throwing things possible in any case, or rolling them along the ground - cannonball skittles anyone? - with a few tweaks it could be a fun tool I reckon.

  • I think with some tweaking it could work, but I'd hate to see it become a situation where the first to hit with a CC wins.

  • @nunoazuldimeter i am aware potions are an idea that has been tossed around and I would love to have them implemented. However they would be completely new and i feel would take longer for us to get. I want this now lol.. If they want the thrown cannon balls could be added in relatively soon and potions could be buffs to yourself instead of ailments to your enemies.

  • @katttruewalker I tried to simplify the idea, however the full idea allows even basic cannon balls to be thrown as a weapon. They wouldn't cause ship damage and would damage someone roughly as much as a single sword hit. However, fall damage could be calculated in with it and actually do more damage the higher up you are from them and do more damage the farther it falls. Cursed cannon balls would not have this damage effect but simply apply their status affects.

Speaking of things rolling around on the ship I like to stealth around and would love to release everyone's chickens/snakes/pigs from their cages and have them running around the ship causing chaos.

  • @goedecke-michel then your own ship will suffer the consequences. If you are on land and drop a purple curse then nothing would happen.

  • @badrobott @Pufflesgames I understand why both of you dislike the idea of first to hit CC would cause the fight to be over. However, I would argue it is already like that. Whichever ship hits the other first with an Anchor ball tends to win or whomever uses an explosive on the other ship (especially a Stronghold Keg). The thing is the green cursed cannonballs have a blast radius and have a chance of hitting yourself with them as well if you mess up or they get too close to you. Additionally the chances of you CCing the entire enemy crew is unlikely unless they make a dumb mistake. If you were carrying an explosive and killed yourself and the entire enemy crew that usually already decides the fight as well so CC with no damage wouldn't be as detrimental to PvP I don't think.
