Changing pirates while keeping your progress

  • L

In the early game of sea of thieves I chose to be a Fat pirate with my friends. Now we have come far and we are getting tired of our dull skins and want to change them to somthing else without destroying everything I own. I suggest we set the price of 30,000 gold for a character change so you don’t do it very often but you may do it as many times as you like. Yes/No

  • @xbuniix I used to want this a lot too. But then if you really think about it, being stuck with your character really makes you feel more connected to them. Being able to change faces makes you feel like a faceless nobody, this game is all about creating stories and a character along with building reputation. If I told a story of a fat guy finding a hidden cave and fighting a ruthless skele crew and then told a story about a skinny short girl captaining a ship through the Devil's Roar I wouldn't think they were the same pirate at all. I made a fat guy at first too, then I reset and picked a girl character. I finally caught up to where I was and I regretted picking a girl since I'm a guy, but I couldn't change otherwise I would loose all the event exclusive items. So now I actually could care less about my character. ((Sorry if that was ranty, I just thought I would throw in as much input as I could))

  • @xbuniix A new set of sails is more expensive and has less impact. 30000 gold is too cheap.

  • I would prefer to create a 2nd Pirate, but with its own progression.

  • @xbuniix Whilst I understand Rare's stance on the creation of our pirates - that they are our representation in game, that they want us to bond with our characters, warts and all. At this stage I don't really see any harm in being able to roll a new look if one should choose to. A time limit/cost to do so would make it manageable at least so folks aren't changing their pirate every other day.

I will say though. It would feel rather jarring if my over-weight, Asian male pirate shipmate suddenly turned up as a slim Nordic female... though I might not complain...

  • I prefer todays system of growing to love your pirate, warts and all.

  • I think a reasonable compromise might be giving players a one-time re-roll on their pirate.

  • Im purely against this idea! You have to choose your Char wisely it’s everything about Adventures and Reputation! I hated WoW cause some people had 10 High Level Chars on one Server but no Main Char, in this Game you have a little Relationship, it’s Personal you have only One Character and I’m loving it! It’s not only a Skin it’s a Unique Character, nobody else of the almost 6 Million Players has that Charater that you are Playing! Look at WoW or Pubg your Char is One of 100000!

  • there have been lots of topics about this. Personaly, i think that normal gold should NOT be the currency used in changing one's appearance. In order to make it more special, i think Doubloons should be the currency used in getting an appearance change. around 50 doubloons or more.

  • @xbuniix
I wouldn't be surprised if this gets implemented through microtransaction at some point. That way anyone can do it without it being locked behind earning enough gold/dubloons in game. But charging money would deter people from doing it too often.

  • Personally, I agree that we should have the option to Re-Roll our pirate, but in a different way than this topic suggests.

Instead of a Re-Roll, I'm of the opinion that all players should be able to buy a second character slot. This slot is tied to your account, so no progression is lost, but you have the freedom to play as a totally different pirate than your first one, and would now have the option to delete it if you so choose.

I'd say that your second pirate should share gold, reputation, and overall progress, but not share doubloons, commendations, cosmetics or ship customizations. This way there's still something worth working for on this second character, but you don't have to grind it out twice either.

I think a buyable second character slot would be the best of both worlds.

I'm in agreement that we should be attached to the pirate we first chose, as it makes us work a little harder to get them through their trials to become legends. That said, as much as I love playing as my tough as nails, skinny and aggressive looking pirate lady with a taste for nice cosmetics, I'd still like to have the option to play as someone different from time to time.

It'd be nice to have other things to buy cosmetics-wise, and have a whole different approach to the game on a totally new character. Hopefully rare considers adding this as a feature, as even if it's a microtransaction, I'd be happy to pay for this one in particular.

  • Without the use of a mirror or something else reflective i cant see my face. Neither can you see your pirates face unless you make him dance, point or whatever. If we start changing our appearance it'll lead to changing gender. That in turn will start the debate about do i pick a male or female pirate. Then someone will freak out because we have a pride flag on the ship but cant pick to be a non-binary pirate. I think its best left alone. Love who you are, love who your pirate is, f**k everyone else.

One Character that you dont fully chose*

    Fixed for you -.-

  • @xbuniix I’ve been asking for a while that they have a mirror in the PL hideout where you can buy some gold to jump back into the IPG.

I personally don’t believe it’s a matter or if, more of when something like that gets added. :)

  • @knifelife this would be the way to go if the does get the go ahead. Im not convinced it should happen but your idea makes most sense. Maybe hou could "drink the kool-aid" and pass out to wake up with a different body similar to that old tv series Quantum Leap.

  • @stiffrenagade87 It’s possible it might be a potion you can buy when they release there micro transaction shop.

That could possibly explain why we haven’t seen it yet.

  • @knifelife that makes sense. But you can only do it in the pirate legend hideout. Or the one on (i think its) wanderers refuge were the wanda quest ended in that secret room. Either way, it would need to be in a secret room. Im still not a fan of this, but keeping an open mind, i still agree with you.

  • I like this idea a lot.

  • I was reading some of your ideas and arguments so I made a conclusion. Mabye it could be 70,000 gold and (your price) for blugoons I see what you mean by getting attached to your pirate but is’nt that Stockholm syndrome . And one last idea what if they had a one tim change and then from then on it would make you delete your pirate.

  • @xbuniix
If not a complete character change then at least an option to alter it's build / body shape.

I chose a thin character thinking it would make me less of a target. lol But now all clothes just hang on me and I have not interest in any of them.

If not a total change by money then perhaps as a reward for reaching pirate legend?

The potion shop above the OoS has been confirmed to reopen, hopefully there's going to be a potion for gender another for body type, another for facial features, etc.

  • @admiral-rrrsole yeah, but by the time your a pirate legend don’t you thing you will eaither deop the game or be used to the pirate

Im pirate legend plus athena, and I'm not even close to "used" to the pirate. In fact, I hate him more and more XD

  • @xbuniix Good point. But being "used" to how your in-game character looks doesn't take away from being tired of how your character looks.

Although I have been a PL for some time now, I personally don't look at my in-game character all that much.
That eyesore pleasure is left to everyone else in the game. :o)
It's kind of depressing to know that no matter how much I spend or which outfits I buy I might as well be a coat hanger.

Character change could come sooner in our career but I was just spitballing ideas and trying to add something different to PLs to help make the status worth more than just a glorified run-down fetch monkey.
The more reasons we have to become a PL the longer we'll continue to play the game.

  • Rare please give us each one free pirate re-do for making us wait 8 extra days for FS.
