Idea on how to communicate with your alliance ships

  • When watching the map when in an alliance. You can access the radial wheel to select the speaking trumpet. When looking at the map with it selected you can speak to all the ships in the alliance. The sound comes from a strange cursed skeleton skull placed on the shelf.

The sound is not as loud as if someone was using the speaking trumpet. More like someone talking on a walkie talkie trying to get contact with the alliance ships.

This could be handy when in need of assistance if attacked by other ships. Or when the alliance need to move to an area for a event etc.

The cursed skull (speaker) could be an event in itself to get. And something everyone get's at a later date like with the drums and speaking trumpet etc....

    What do you think?

Edit: When communicating with the alliance the skull's jaw could move and the curse make the hollow eye sockets glow as the old evil magic activates. There could also be a skull up on deck by the ship's wheel. So that you can hear what's going on with the alliance. But you would have to go down to the map to communicate back.

  • I think there should definitely be downsides to alliances, especially ones just doing their own thing all across the map. if you're not close enough to communicate tough luck.

  • That's quite a cool idea actually! I originally thought of having some kind of carrier pigeon messaging system, but your idea fits in with the lore of the game too.

I think the most important thing is to have fun. And I'm a bit cocky now. But I think this is a fun idea. Something that would make it more of a point being in an alliance. It's not like once you scream out from the skull speaker that you need help that the alliance will be there in a flash.

Most times ships in a alliance are spread out all over the map. Many far away. So it would take time for help to arrive.

And there are several fun things that could be done with this.

I can see allot of fun things happening with this. Lot's of silly communications and just fun things really.

  • @octopus-lime Thanks! Crossing fingers some Rare people sees it and likes it to... :D

  • Just invite them to your Party Chat or Discord server...

  • I was thinking about a parrot that sits by the captains table. You can use it to send a message and it will fly to the alliance ship of your choice to deliver it. Upon arrival, the parrot will circle the ship once or twice making parrot noises, and then it will land on the captains table so you can read the message. You can then send it back with a reply.
The parrot would actually fly across the map so once you send it, it will be gone for a little while. Maybe other players could even intercept it to see what other alliances are up to..

But I like your idea too. Lots of magic in SoT after all, so it seems very fitting.

  • @sanni You could do but then you have to listen to multiple crews chatter which would get annoying and confusing. Plus it's not as fun as a talking skull!

Again I'm a bit cocky now. But my idea is fun. And opens up for fun things. Inviting people to Discord servers or muting everyone else in the game using party chat is not what I consider practical or fun.

  • @hoppentosse So your saying there were skeletons walking around back then? Even big scary skeleton ships? Filled with the dead?

Pirates shooting themselves out from their cannons flying like a bird as they land on other ships for battle? Or a magic map that shows other ships on it... :D

Hehe, the list goes on. This is not an authentic pirate game. It's however a fun fantasy pirate game.
